A competitive and balanced solution that offers solid performance at a reasonable price
I worked very closely with ExaGrid in Singapore. We are trying to build up the market for ExaGrid in Vietnam. We hope to be a big distributor for ExaGrid and that the picture will improve next year. Regarding the technology of ExaGrid, they have a landing zone, and now it's a very exhaustive solution, especially compared with Dell Data Domain and HPE. HPE offers normal storage without any special solution. Dell has DD Boost, and so the performance is high. On that basis, I rate the ExaGrid Tiered Backup Storage number with an overall score of eight out of ten. People might be more familiar with Data Domain or StoreOnce. And if people want a professional solution, there are only three brands.

The features we have found most valuable in NAKIVO Backup & Replication include its cost-effectiveness, seamless integrations, comprehensive functionalities, and ease of installation and management. The pricing model is very competitive, providing excellent value for the robust features offered. Its seamless integration with our VMware infrastructure ensures smooth operation without any compatibility issues. The wide range of functionalities, including incremental and full backups, storage optimization, and disaster recovery options, meets all our backup needs comprehensively. Moreover, the simplicity of installation and the intuitive user interface have made it easy for our team to quickly set up and manage the backups without requiring extensive training.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I like the performance of the restore feature."
"The features that we like the most are the Backup Copy and Active Directory Integration. They have helped us to save a lot of time since we do not have to make the backup copies “by hand”."
"It is flexible."
"NAKIVO is easy to use and pretty easy to set up."
"We have found all the features of Nakivo to be useful and the solution is easier to use compared to Proxmox. It is user-friendly, we are very satisfied."
"The fact that it works with Synology is a big valuable point. Also, that we can check the functionality of a backup so easily. Cloud integration is valuable because the ability to not only backup locally, but to the cloud, has been a great addition to the already fantastic product. We can save so much time with Nakivo and are very happy that we found it and loved to use it for our solutions."
"The backups, especially of the incremental type, are really quick (ranging from five to 10 to 45 to 50 minutes depending on the size of the VM)."
"This product provides cost-efficient and reliable backups."
"The VM Backup Verification is one of the features I appreciate the most."

Cons

"We have to do a lot of POC to show why ExaGrid is good."
"Sometimes, for some VMs and some Windows Server versions, specifically old versions (aka server 12 or older) fail due to the VSS writer error or locking file system."
"The way encryption is currently working could be improved. Currently, it's not possible to encrypt the backup to an NFS share directly. It needs to have the encryption within the Transporter/VM to enable encryption, which isn't optimal. So I'm hoping that in the near future this function will be implemented."
"In the future, I would like to see support for backing up data to more cloud platforms, besides Amazon."
"My first thought was maybe the GUI could be improved, although it works."
"It would be interesting if it were possible to integrate a mobile app to monitor the system in real-time."
"The interface can be a little clunky at times."
"When you schedule some jobs, you should be able to see a list of the jobs contained within each. You have to open up the editor to see what is inside. You must click through and edit stuff. Each time, it asks you to save or discard changes. It's very annoying. You only see the name of the scheduled job, and you need to edit it to see what's it's inside."
"It would be helpful to be able to have a custom footprint so that only the required features are installed."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"ExaGrid is a one-time investment."
"This product provides good value for the price."
"The pricing, setup costs, and licensing are easy to understand, no matter how you want to implement it."
"We use a perpetual license that is priced well."
"As a free solution for a small environment, this is a great solution!"
"Nakivo is cheaper per machine and per backup."
"Regarding the licensing, I would advise speaking to the Nakivo representatives and you can get the best option for your environment."
"The solution's pricing is adequate for its features and quality."
"You have a lot of different options when it comes to pricing and the pricing models are pretty flexible and affordable."
