A mature backup solution, with many features, and great support
Veritas NetBackup is the first line of defense when disaster strikes. Before performing disaster recovery, we must have a good backup of our image that is also protected from ransomware. This way, we have a golden image that is resilient to ransomware attacks. We saw the benefits of Veritas NetBackup within the first three months.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The backup and replication are great."
"We have been able to set up a failover site that has replicas of our critical VMs."
"This enables us to do quick granular file recovery as and when required but also to do whole-site relocation in the case of a total loss scenario."
"The product is good for protecting very low-budget offices, whereas other solutions fail in terms of cost and footprint of the VMs involved."
"Perfect for someone who doesn't want to waste time."
"You can have it setup and running within a few minutes."
"The price is much lower than competitors that do the same function."
"The solution offers reliable copying and fast recovery."
"This product is flexible enough to allow for backing up data from physical machines, as well as from your cloud environment."
"The most valuable feature is replication because, using NetBackup replication, we can have disaster recovery of the data we have."
"The backup and restore functions are very valuable aspects of the product."
"The most valuable features are the ability to create a trust relationship and historical reports."
"The feature that is most useful for us is that it backs up every application that we own."
"The solution offers the hardware and the software at the same time."
"There's a very nice central console for the administration of all of the instances."
"The simulation engine is highly valuable as it allows us to simulate what a failure would be like and generate reports."

Cons

"It would be helpful to be able to have a custom footprint so that only the required features are installed."
"When you schedule some jobs, you should be able to see a list of the jobs contained within each. You have to open up the editor to see what is inside. You must click through and edit stuff. Each time, it asks you to save or discard changes. It's very annoying. You only see the name of the scheduled job, and you need to edit it to see what's it's inside."
"Right now we know that Nakivo has the ability to back up as an incremental process and restore backups across several criteria. However, it would be good if we had the ability to backup a system like PostgreSQL."
"Compression and data deduplication are okay, but they could be improved."
"At the moment I am pleased with what Nakivo does but I would like more reporting functions and if possible, integration with my RMM system."
"In the future, it would be nice to have support for Zimbra email, Collabora Office, and the NextCloud content collaboration platform."
"I would like to have a built-in SNMP client, which is important if we want to monitor it using Zabbix, Nagios, or another monitoring solution."
"The way encryption is currently working could be improved. Currently, it's not possible to encrypt the backup to an NFS share directly. It needs to have the encryption within the Transporter/VM to enable encryption, which isn't optimal. So I'm hoping that in the near future this function will be implemented."
"The most common problem is the backup failures over the weekend. We have to troubleshoot and sometimes do restores and then we have trouble doing some of the restores."
"The database integration could be better."
"Lacks a reporting feature."
"I would like to have support enabled for cloud backups."
"When the customer is using SaaS applications like Office 365, the integration falls short and needs to be improved."
"The solution costs too much."
"The restoration method and the compression ratio need improvement."
"Updates were not always consistent."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Regarding the licensing, I would advise speaking to the Nakivo representatives and you can get the best option for your environment."
"The licensing model is crystal clear on the website."
"The price is not a problem in NAKIVO, as it is the most competitive in the market."
"Pricing is easy to understand and very affordable."
"It has a very good price in the market."
"Nakivo Backup & Replication also have another great value, which is that it is one of the lowest prices on the market."
"Nakivo has a good price-performance ratio."
"It has a much higher bang for the buck than other products we evaluated."
"Veritas NetBackup is more expensive than Cohesity and Rubrik, but it is comparable in price to Commvault, IBM, and Dell."
"The price is fair."
"It is reasonably priced."
"If you want to have more scalability you have to purchase more licenses. The license is annually and there are a lot of different licensing depending on the number of terabytes needed. It is not based on per-user, core, or servers. You can backup anything you want using the purchased terabyte space."
"Veritas NetBackup is very expensive, and I think price is the main reason which some customers don't want to use this solution."
"Veritas NetBackup is considerably cheaper than that of Druva, the former being quite affordable."
"Price-wise, most of the backup products are similarly priced, and NetBackup is the same."
"If you have a source size of one terabyte then they will charge for a one terabyte license, although what is actually being stored is much less."
