Efficient, user-friendly, and affordable
In the past, NSS Labs was utilized to test files and verify the numbers and datasheets. It would be beneficial to have an organization or testing lab that can verify the numbers in our datasheets since changes are frequently made, which can be inconvenient for review. For instance, when comparing different competitors such as Forcepoint, Palo Alto, and Check Point, the throughput or numbers in the datasheet may be lower than the actual numbers. Conversely, Fortinet typically reports very high numbers, but they cannot be replicated in the real world. Therefore, it would be advantageous for them to partner with a neutral testing organization such as NSS Labs to validate these numbers, thus providing more credibility and comfort to everyone regarding the accuracy of the datasheets. For the migration, everyone has a firewall in use and I am selling Fortinet. Typically, I am replacing another firewall. Previously, there was a tool available to convert configurations from one firewall, such as Palo Alto, to Fortinet, but this tool is no longer free. If it could be made free again, it would be very beneficial. This tool shows a lot of promise and is very good. Making it free would help many companies deliver their products in a more efficient and integrated way. It would also be more valuable to include the tool with the firewall package or license instead of having to pay extra for it. Paying extra puts more pressure on small companies to deliver the firewall and complete the configuration, especially if they have hundreds or thousands of policies. It's very painful to move through these policies line by line. The stability has room for improvement. When it comes to Secure SD-WAN, everything is fine. They are going the right way. SD-WAN is very promising. They can provide the SD-WAN solution separately, but they will not take this approach because even the smallest firewall can support the features, so there is no need to have a separate service or appliance. They are following the right steps, and there is nothing to be improved. Feature-wise, I'm really satisfied with the new release, and the features they have added. For now, it's fine.

Highly scalable, user-friendly UI, and easy to maintain
We have used Juniper SRX Series Firewall in airports and multiple other industries The most valuable features of the Juniper SRX Series Firewall are the user-friendly UI, and accessing the solution is simple. The pricing strategy of the vendor could improve. I have been using Juniper SRX Series…

Useful VPNs, effective web filtering, and cost effective
The VPN aspect of the WatchGuard Firebox is an area that could potentially benefit from improvement. We encountered difficulties while attempting to integrate Windows 11 laptops into the system, which resulted in unreliable connections. After some research, we discovered that this was primarily due to compatibility issues with Windows 11 and required a patch. However, it was still a challenge as it seemed that even when we tried to keep the laptops on Windows 10, they still exhibited the same issues as Windows 11 machines. Despite WatchGuard attributing the problem to Microsoft, we were eventually able to find a solution and all the machines are now functioning seamlessly. The solution comes with a web interface that facilitates configurations, but it doesn't have the same level of functionality as the installed client or system manager. The web UI could be further improved. In a future release, the detection of ransomware would be helpful. Ransomware is our biggest fear.

Pros

"It's very easy to configure."
"The base firewall features are quite valuable to us."
"We are using the FortiGate 100D series. VPN, firewall, anti-malware, OTM, and intrusion prevention are useful features."
"This solution has solid UTM features combined with a nice GUI."
"I really like the captive portal feature for our guest network. It has nice VLAN features in terms of separating our network. The anti-virus is also good."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of use."
"Fortinet FortiGate's ease of management is the most valuable feature."
"The solution is highly scalable because they have devices that can handle a large amount of traffic."
"It's easily scalable."
"Technical support has been quite helpful."
"The most powerful feature in Juniper SRX is definitely NCLS."
"It's a reliable firewall and very stable, for both the hardware and applications it is stable."
"I've found the security features, such as IDS and the VPN most valuable."
"When compared to Palo Alto, Juniper is a better choice when it comes to the enterprise network and connectivity."
"The GUI is simple to use."
"It is a part of the infrastructure when we're selling Juniper. That's what clients are familiar with and that's what they rely on."
"It saves us time in the respect that we now have the template built for it so we can get in and get it done. We've had much less problem supporting Voice over IP technologies from different companies. Because our client base has grown over the years, we're probably saving 20 to 30 man-hours a month now that we've got this on a good stable level."
"Cloud integration is one of the best features."
"The product's usability is good. It is straightforward and simple. One of the benefits is that it is easy to navigate and intuitive."
"The most valuable feature for small and medium businesses is the support for various protocol proxies."
"The ease of use is most valuable. You can quickly train someone who hasn't seen a firewall in life. You can get people up to speed, and in a few months, they are able to manage this product very easily. It is a very user-friendly, scalable, and stable product. Its price is also spot-on."
"WatchGuard has a very easy VPN and branch office VPN setup, so we use those pretty extensively."
"Firebox's best feature is the access portal."
"WatchGuard Firebox is the most powerful firewall for Wi-Fi security."

Cons

"Scalability for Fortinet FortiGate needs to be improved. SD-WAN security for this solution also needs some improvement."
"Fortinet already improved FortiGate, but in the current market, many brands of security devices have improved together. Fortinet still needs to catch up with market standards. Fortinet is lacking in features in comparison to competitors."
"The renewal price and the availability could be improved."
"Fortinet FortiGate could improve by adding enhancements to FortiMail, FortiSOAR, and FortiDeceptor."
"The non-error conserve mode has room for improvement."
"Fortinet FortiGate is a stable solution. However, my issue is the performance only. When I use all the profiles, this affects the performance. From the beginning, I should have had a better sizing of the box."
"It is quite new for us, and we need to go more in-depth into the monitoring tools. It provides different features that we need to do what we want. So far, it is okay for us. In terms of improvement, in the future, they can provide a faster implementation of features. Some of the features are first available in other solutions. Fortinet sometimes takes a little bit longer than other solutions, such as Check Point, to implement new features."
"Lacks sufficient security options."
"Juniper SRX is stable, but it could improve. FortiGate has better stability than Juniper SRX."
"I've noticed that the management interface could use some updates and upgrades."
"It did not improve our safety because the IDS does not detect some attacks, but our anti-virus software did."
"The GUI needs to be easier to handle."
"I would like to see endpoint control and endpoint testing security."
"Sometimes committing configurations takes a lot of time in Juniper because of the connections, and it could be a little bit faster."
"It should be easier to escalate support tickets."
"I think Juniper SRX should have a GUI. Some of the competitors are already implementing GUI for the firewall."
"It's very hard to get information from their website, for exactly what I need to do. Sometimes I end up having to open a lot of support tickets... It's a navigational issue which makes it hard to find what I'm looking for and it's just so broad."
"I believe there is a need for additional measures to connect mobile devices securely to the Firebox router."
"It's sometimes not easy to understand and can require specialist assistance."
"Reporting is something you've got to set up separately. It's one of those things that you've got to put some time into. One of the options is to set up a local report server, which is what I did. It's not great. It's okay... Some of the stuff is a little complicated to get up and running. Once you do, it becomes very user-friendly and easy to work with, but I find there are some implementation headaches with some of their stuff."
"In WatchGuard Firebox, the antivirus and malware detection systems are areas with shortcomings that require improvement since they are the most important elements of a cybersecurity tool."
"Some of the configuration options are somewhat confusing."
"They are working on cloud-based options. However, they do not have the options fully functional in their solution at this time."
"The performance of the solution's processor needs to be faster."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is a good product from a price perspective versus functionality."
"This is not a cheap solution but it isn't expensive, either. It's a good solution for the right price."
"The Indian market is different than the European and American markets. When you compare they need to be a bit more aggressive on pricing."
"The price of Fortinet FortiGate is the lowest in the market."
"The price of Fortinet FortiGate is reasonable."
"We purchased a five-year bundle package, which worked out cheaper than competing solutions."
"We have the full version of Fortinet FortiGate and we are on a three-year contract with a commitment of five years."
"I think the price of Fortinet FortiGate is very reasonable."
"Palo Alto was nice, but much more expensive."
"In terms of pricing, Juniper is in the middle. The most expensive firewall is Palo Alto. If a customer wants the cheapest price they should go for FortiGate. Juniper is in between these products."
"Its price is comparable to the competition."
"This is a cost-effective solution because the price is very reasonable, and some of the features are available at no extra cost."
"I would say about $20,000 for a SRX650 with IDP licence."
"This is an expensive product."
"When you consider performance, price, and features, maybe Juniper is not so cost-effective compared to other solutions like MikroTik."
"The price is reasonable"
"The solution's most valuable feature is its pricing."
"It's an affordable tool"
"The cheapest configuration, for maybe five people, is approximately $500."
"They have an annual subscription license. Initially, we had opted for three years. After that, we went for another three years, and after that, we have been doing it yearly. They also have a license for five years."
"WatchGuard Firebox has good quality, but it is expensive."
"It has a very good price. It is not the most expensive one, and it is also not the cheapest one. It is just spot-on in terms of price."
"I think the tool is quite competitive compared to the other brands."
"Despite the fact that there is always room for improvement, the current pricing of the solution is still lower compared to its competitors."

Sophos UTM vs. Fortinet FortiGate
I have used both Sophos and Fortinet products in production and I have found the Sophos UTM appliances (hardware and virtual) to be a better fit most of the time -- with a few caveats which I will touch on below. In both instances, the transition from TMG will be mostly straightforward. The main…
