Reduces project delivery times and costs
I think one area where GitHub could improve is its search and navigation functionality within repositories. For example, we use IDEs like IntelliJ or Visual Studio Code when developing code. These IDEs allow us to easily navigate from one piece of code to another file where a method is being called. It would be really helpful if the solution could add this navigation feature. It would allow us to move from one class file to another more easily, helping us search quicker and follow the code flow completely within GitHub. This would be more convenient than having to import the code into our local IDE to look at the code flow and navigate through it. Adding this kind of IDE-like navigation within the tool would make the user experience more seamless and efficient.

Good call routing capability, but the interface is non-intuitive, the integration is bad, and the mobile app needs improvement
Their pricing and "automatic contracts" are abhorrent. We left Broadview for Intermedia because, at the end of the day, we are in the business of being a complete IT solution, which we can't do without offering a phone system. We are firm believers in practicing what you preach (or dogfooding if you prefer). As I stated previously, they dropped us as vendors because we couldn't sell many systems. The auto-attendant setup was horrid. It was extremely dated and doesn't have any modern features that you would expect for the price point. The mobile app, desktop app, and hardware was outdated and clumsily integrated. One reason we couldn't sell the product is that they nickel and dime you to death. For example, a line is one price. If you want a soft phone, that's extra. Mobile app? Extra. Auto-attendant? Yup... extra. We went with Intermedia because they have a far more modern system with seamless integration and simpler pricing. It is one price per user that includes everything Broadview charges extra for. Finally, after we switched, Broadview is trying to extort us for a year's fees stating we didn't terminate the contract in time. Importantly, we did, but it was "auto-renewed." Basically, if you want phone technology from the '90s and the practices to go along with it, Broadview is your ticket.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is scalable."
"There are no issues. It's simple, easy, and fully compatible from my perspective with Git."
"All the features are valuable, but the most important feature is that GitHub has advanced security. The second important feature is the capability to create custom GitHub actions and the capability to deploy in different types of architectural infrastructures, such as hybrid, private, or public."
"The most valuable feature is help offered by the community for open-source projects."
"GitHub is pure or open-source; you can access it anywhere. You can have a lot of collateral information. You can make the changes and do the reviews from one place."
"The product has a good UI. It's simple and easy to access, and technical help is easily available. The two-factor authentication security is another valuable feature."
"The flexibility of this solution has been most valuable. It operates on a pay per use basis where you can ramp up or decrease usage."
"The code sharing and updated history are valuable features."
"We were able to route calls to mobile devices as well as hard phones."

Cons

"The initial setup and implementation could be easier, I had some difficulties with it at first but I don't have a development background."
"I would like to see integration with Slack such that all of the changes made in GitHub are reflected there."
"Could be more user friendly."
"GitHub could add some more security features."
"The support team needs to have a well-defined SLA model since it is an area where the tool currently has some shortcomings."
"I would like a more graphical, user-friendly UI, to avoid writing so much code on cmd."
"The GUI design is poor, so I exclusively use the CLI, which is much easier to use and understand. It would be great to see the GUI updated to be more user-friendly."
"I decided not to use GitHub but developed my tool because I found it more efficient. I'm familiar with my tools, making them easier to use. I like being able to customize them to fit my workflow and the way I think.. Software development is like a personal workshop, and I tailor my version control to match my approach."
"The mobile app, desktop app, and hardware was outdated and clumsily integrated."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I use the free version of GitHub."
"I haven't had to pay anything for GitHub, I use the free version."
"It’s an open-source solution."
"We are currently paying nothing for GitHub."
"We pay a subscription-based yearly licensing fee for the solution."
"The licensing model for GitHub is user-based. Whenever the new developer joins we have to get a new license and register their ID. The overall price of the solution is reasonable."
"If there are only 10 people using a particular repository, then GitHub is free. But if we increase the number of users, we need to pay the normal charge for GitHub."
"The basic licensing model is free, and if you need to have technical support and such things, then it does cost something. You only need to pay extra if you need technical support."
"Their pricing and "automatic contracts" are abhorrent."
