A versatile and scalable data warehousing with SQL-like querying capabilities on large datasets stored in Hadoop, offering ease of use, flexibility and compatibility with various data formats
If the use case involves creating a data warehousing solution with complex functionality, data analytics, and extensive querying requirements, especially if there's a need for a data lake, then opting for Hadoop and Spark is advisable. In this scenario, Hadoop with technologies like Hive and Spark can provide the necessary capabilities. On the other hand, if the application's primary focus is on handling large volumes of data without the requirement for complex features, data warehousing, or advanced querying, and if dashboarding visibility is not a priority, then MongoDB could be a suitable choice. Overall, I would rate it nine out of ten.

Offers good repository integration, sprint board and easy to set up
There are some features and reports we need that are not there. For example, if I have to find out the capacity of the current sprint by user and compare it with the previous sprint, that visibility isn't there. We can know the capacity and what happened with the whole sprint, but not for an individual person to see where it's falling and how it's tracking. Report and analytics capabilities are important for a product manager. That visibility is important, so we use Jira. Some of the features are there, and I use my own Excels or other data things to compensate for that.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is a good solution for us when it comes to metadata implementation. It's beneficial to have metadata stored in Hive."
"It excels in handling diverse data formats and is particularly beneficial for constructing a data lake for companies with mixed data types, such as videos and structured data."
"The most valuable features in Jira are the dashboard, reports, and boards that help us to control the advancement of the project."
"In terms of product management, Jira increases productivity and visibility into the product. Those are the top benefits this tool provides to the team. Also, it's accessible to the executives and whoever wants to sign on to Jira to see what's going on."
"Perfect for keeping track of large amounts of bugs, tasks queries and releases for fixes."
"I like it for team collaboration and task management. I also like its analytics and dashboards."
"The features that we find most valuable are the Workflow, Scrum workflow, and Dashboards."
"We can cope with processes easily without adapting the tool, but adapting the tool to processes."
"I feel the strongest feature of Jira is its workflow engine. It helps us automate our workflows within our organization. It's the one characteristic of Jira which I think can help any organization, be it in any domain."
"The initial setup was pretty straightforward."

Cons

"In future releases, I would also like to see AI implementation."
"For smaller datasets, it may not be as suitable, and its performance might not be optimal."
"Backlog pruning and visualization are poor."
"Once a story is closed, all the records, versions, and documentation associated with it are gone. We lose the traceability of what was done."
"Stability is an area of concern and it needs improvement, otherwise, it's a good product."
"Lacks some common building block approaches to certain things."
"The GUI should have much better features like more graphical illustrations. There are some cases or benchmarks that we are trying to capture into a dashboard GUI's graphical summary, but unfortunately JIRA is not able to do that."
"The work items structure is not hierarchical and that needs to be changed. It's too flat."
"There's a really steep learning curve for configuration."
"Tracking is important but the built-in features don't meet our needs."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is an open-source solution."
"We are a regional research and education institute. We're using the free license provided for educational institutes."
"One of my customers told me that they were receiving better pricing for a similar tool from Microsoft."
"I don't deal with licensing in my current consultant position."
"I am not sure about the pricing, but I know its licensing is on a yearly basis."
"If I compare Jira's licensing model with that of other products, I think that the other products have a much better licensing model."
"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution. The product offers flexibility in pricing since it depends on the memory bits you have used."
"Licensing is on a monthly basis, and it is based on what you use."
"The price of Jira could be lower."
