Provides firmware compliance and the ability to connect to iPO
I've been involved in various upgrades. It's pretty easy to set up with vCenter. We just push out an appliance template in vCenter. We run ours on virtual servers. Deployment can be done by just one person. The number of people needed for maintenance will depend on your server inventory. If you have more than 100 servers, you will need three to five people. If you have 500 to 1,000 servers, you will need a team of 10 to 20 people.

Unique features allow consolidating and combing metrics into a single dashboard, but don't monitor mobile solutions
I would like to see more granular information provided on Unix applications. Also, the integration with Unix services should be a bit more straightforward in terms having an agent to retrieve your credentials rather than having to enter or save them for SSH on SolarWinds. From the outset, we had to set some commands to log into the search console, and they are saved on the solution, which presents a challenge in terms of exposure. The solution is unable to monitor APK solutions completely because we'd then be forced to break down the APK and provide the APIs or go through the source code. They don't have a module that can analyze an application that is maybe under-used.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution's initial setup process was easy...The technical support is good...It is a stable product, and we will use it for a long time."
"Profile templates: The ability to generate the profiles and lay them down so the servers are built consistently. I would say that's probably the biggest piece of it."
"Administration-wise it's going to be easier. More smooth and more flexible."
"Gives the business interfaces to view real-time pictures of IT business services."
"Provides the strongest support for automation."
"We get templates, so it's speed to delivery for us. It's a big difference with the template features."
"It gives us a view of all our servers, which we did not have before in real-time."
"The stability is very good. I have never had an issue with it over the three years that I have been using it."
"The reporting of the solution is very good."
"The sum solution, NTA, and DPA."
"Some of the most valuable features of SolarWinds are the topology discovery and network performance analysis."
"The product has a great dashboard."
"I have found the most valuable feature is application performance management."
"Technical support is always live and they're supportive."

Cons

"It's a little slow sometimes. Overall, I think it does what it's supposed to do. I think that as they evolve it, it'll get quicker."
"I saw, maybe three years ago or two years ago here, or in Barcelona, at the HPE Discover conference, a feature that you can update Clusterware with VMware. But the feature is still not live in production. Currently, you have to do all the firmware updates and then you have to do the VMware updates. So you have two reboots and it would be better if it was just one."
"The solution could add storage, integration services, and end-to-end support for Cisco switches or other competitor products."
"Those features, coming in version 4, that we're looking for are the discovery, primarily. But I think the scope-based access control is of interest, although, we didn't see any directory integration, so that, in itself, seems like it's still limited."
"I think HPE could make more user-friendly interfaces, exclude Java and move to an HTML5 platform, make more detailed documentation, and lower the price."
"Use it, but do not think it is going into the clouds, because it is not. There is room for improvement."
"I had some minor difficulties with upgrading, but the solution still works fine."
"They can improve reporting and provide more customized reports. Currently, reporting is a bit limited. It can be complex to learn and manage for beginners. Because of my experience, I find it comfortable to manage, which might not be the case with beginners. It would be good if they can make it a little bit easier to understand. They can provide a more graphical view of connectivity and other things. Their technical support can also be improved."
"In terms of the technology, I think they need to put some more advanced troubleshooting into SolarWinds, in terms of AI capabilities. That's the next generation, especially in the cases of APIs which have already adopted AI capabilities into their products."
"The solution should be more user-friendly."
"The integration with Unix services should be a bit more straightforward."
"The implementation needs improvement. It needs to get modernized with the newer cloud scenario in both public and private deployment models."
"AppOptics would benefit from having a much more centralized view."
"I would like to see more integration with other tools that are available on the market."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Synergy does not require iLO licenses but servers and enclosures must be purchased."
"Use it. It is free."
"This license cost for OneView was $3,000 USD."
"HPE had some other solutions, but they were actually quite expensive to buy. So, when OneView came along, it was kind of reasonable in terms of price for licenses, etc."
"I think that the price of OneView is $500 USD per server, which is a little high."
"I am happy with the price."
"I feel the product's price falls a bit on the higher side."
"I would rate the cost as six out of ten."
"Mostly, it's a perpetual license. We don't have any customers using the subscription right now—it's mostly a perpetual license that the customers purchase. The licensing is based on the number of elements, whereas other solutions are node-based."
"I believe the current licensing cost is reasonable."
"Since it's a negotiable rate, I would rate the pricing as a five out of five."
