Great WAF - low-maintenance solution that performs as advertised
The solution can be improved with the development of a SIP engine because it is difficult to manage SBCs. All SBCs are really tough to write rules for. If we could put this in front of an SBC to have the right rules to possibly block the traffic, that would be very helpful. The solution can also improve the relationship between Loadbalancer.org and Metaswitch, or now, Microsoft because Metaswitch was purchased by Microsoft. They both position themselves as certified but don't always talk to each other. I wish there would be closer integration between the solution and the vendors when either release new upgrades to their product line. Often we find issues on either end post upgrades.

A tool for centralized management including inventory and sales tracking
Citrix ADM has the ability to implement policies to tighten security. For instance, you can restrict access to your network from outsiders or lack necessary security measures such as antivirus programs. Additionally, there's the Delivery Controller, which allows for comprehensive monitoring and management tasks such as remote restarts, maintenance, and registration. Another essential component is the Director, which provides detailed insights into sessions, including identifying session failures, connection issues, user lockouts, etc. It presents a list of problems to address, enabling you to click on them and resolve them efficiently.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Loadbalancer is easy to use. It performs well, with low latency."
"Loadbalancer.org is less complex than Citrix."
"With basic network knowledge, our required system functionality can be configured and maintained."
"We now get notifications when pool members go down, and we eliminate our downtime by not sending traffic to downed pool members."
"The connection that this solution helps our servers maintain has been most useful."
"For now, it's stable."
"It does what it’s supposed to do which is balancing an important intranet site we are using, so if one server dies, the second becomes active straight away."
"The support we have received from Loadbalancer.org has been good."
"What I like most about Citrix NetScaler is its stability, and I didn't see a lot of issues with it."
"HTTP analysis and action. We have a lot of custom web applications that sometimes require custom header insertions. Some of these custom apps are external and, via the content switching, we can use one IP and leverage various back-end web app servers."
"If you need PCI-compliance and have high security requirements, WAF is the most valuable feature. If you need to monitor your load-balancing services with complex types of monitoring, make sure everything is alright, and load balancing is important, Content Switching and Monitoring features are the keys to your needs. If you want to provide a lot of static images or data, the Caching feature works best for you."
"Easy, user-friendly setup with content switching and integrated caching features."
"The most valuable feature of Citrix ADC is its ease of use."
"One feature that works really well is the SSL VPN. It's very easy to set up and you can go very granular with it. You can define what user groups get what kind of access and the management overhead is very low."
"I like the solution's simplicity compared to Citrix's on-prem solutions."
"We use the product for load balancing and as a reverse proxy solution."

Cons

"If I have to say something, I suppose they could add an automated configuration backup to an FTP location (or something similar) so you don’t have to manually do it. I don’t see this as a problem, of course, as the configuration rarely changes and we only need one backup, but maybe for other users that feature would be handy."
"The configuration is somewhat complicated. Someone who does not know the solution may find this challenging."
"There are many features you can set in the backend of Loadbalancer. They should simplify the configuration. The administrator should be able to configure it more simply. How it is now, you can only configure it if you have a lot of experience."
"You can run into an issue when one engineer passes the case over to another engineer after their shift and they don't know what the first engineer worked on up to that point."
"There is room for improvement in Loadbalancer.org in certain areas."
"It doesn't have the bonding capability feature."
"An area for improvement in Loadbalancer.org is that sometimes it works fine, but sometimes, it has issues. The setup for Loadbalancer.org is also complex, so that's another area for improvement."
"They're mostly designed to balance a particular type of traffic. I wanted to load balance DNS, and they just don't do it the way that we wanted to. So they're not used as DNS load balancers."
"We face challenges with the solution's firmware upgrades frequently."
"The licensing model and technical support of the solution could be improved."
"I think the documentation should be improved."
"Technical support could be improved."
"Citrix ADC is a complex product, and it takes time to understand these things. But the documentation is poor, and the deployment is difficult. Integration could also be better because what I find is that you cannot easily integrate the panel in the second sector. What I have found is that in the last index, there is a limitation when getting validated. Technical support could also be better."
"The interface could be improved, some customers struggle with that."
"The GUI should be improved."
"The user interface could be more friendly. Some wizards and other documentation for administrators, as well as some use cases, helps us to understand the solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It was easy to upgrade the license for unlimited clusters and servers. Pricing is fair."
"It filled a requirement for our project, and it did so at lesser cost than their competitors."
"We've got an unlimited license, which doesn't costs that much compared to other vendors, and we don't have to buy it again."
"It is inexpensive, and even their “unlimited” version, the VA MAX is still far cheaper than competitors."
"These guys make their pricing scheme really easy."
"For now, it's stable."
"The costs associated with Loadbalancer.org depends on the technology. For some, we need to pay, but others are open, so they're free."
"I love that they do not price on some arbitrary throughput rating where you are guessing at what the load balancer is going to handle."
"For the specific use case that my customers primarily engage with, I would give the pricing a rating of seven out of ten."
"It is an enterprise solution. Thus, its costs are reasonable."
"We have been evaluating F5, Citrix, and other ADC products. Citrix is the most expense of all of them."
"We get value for money. Its price is fair. I don't think it is overpriced."
"We are quite happy with price. It's not too high."
"Price-wise, I feel that the solution is a little bit expensive."
"We have all the features and functions of Citrix because we have a premium license."
"It is very pricey, but we get it. If you need the best, money shouldn't be a problem."
