MS
An Easy to use tool for brainstorming and planning, compatible with Microsoft Project
This solution works well enough. One can always dream up certain things that may or may not be worth implementing in a piece of software because some other people might have some other better priorities that make more sense. But I would say for what I need it to do, I'm okay. My advice to others is to get it, and use it! It's very good and useful. I am pretty sure that the functionality it has today has more modern methodologies than what I use, but for me, it has been very useful and I have kept using it all of this time. I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

We have seen return on investment in the form of time savings but should have more design tools
I am generally using Visio to create some diagrams Visio should implement more complex tools or graphics to facilitate processing and use flexible templates. It should allow users to easily drag and drop some previously created diagrams. The tools supplied or provided are very basic, and there…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is being able to export to Microsoft Project."
"The most valuable feature of Visio is the credential management, endpoint manager, and active directory for Microsoft Azure for our hybrid infrastructure. Additionally, there are plenty of features available."
"I like the way you can hypertext across tabs so you can actually create an interactive that you can export as a website. You can also extend it to a monitoring tool if you really wanted to."
"It's a very flexible solution."
"Simple to use and very intuitive."
"A lot of built-in templates are really phenomenal. They cut down the time when you're trying to get something out. They reduce the complexity that technical folks like to put into things that have to be given to technical folks."
"Great at illustrating advanced topics which helps my team understand what I'm trying to get across."
"Process modeling is a good feature."
"Very interactive with an intuitive interface."

Cons

"Since I have been using such an old version, most of the improvements have already been made, but I would suggest moving forward with the times and creating a cloud-based solution for universal access."
"Visio is not as scalable as other tools due to the proprietary restriction. You cannot customize it or scale it up like the way you do with Trello or Jira. Microsoft places restrictions on things that you can do with Visio."
"The visual icons and shapes for different vendors like Cisco network could be improved. Often, I have to contact vendors to get specific icons to use in Visio diagrams, which makes the process cumbersome."
"The price could be better."
"We need the place and route capability for the lines when we have a database. I use it for architectures, and between the boxes, there are lines or interfaces from one tool to another. I wish those lines could be easily drawn without having to place them mechanically. I wish that there was some kind of place and route capability, so I just press a button, and all the lines get drawn."
"The export and import functionality from Visio to other tools and the import and export functionality from other tools to Visio are areas with shortcomings."
"As a user, it, unfortunately, lacks recognition by Microsoft products."
"It should be easier to transition into a new version without having to spend so much time in just one area."
"The price could be lower because it is too expensive in South America when paying in dollars or euros."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price was very good in the beginning, then the price increased from USD $99.00 to USD $249.00, then I stopped upgrading because what I needed was already there."
"We have an enterprise license. I'm not sure what the cost is."
"You can purchase a corporate license for more users to use the solution. We have purchased a stand-alone license and which could be cheaper."
"You have to purchase a license to use the solution."
"My company does pay toward the licensing costs of Visio. It is a cheap product based on my experience, and since I purchased Visio for my own use."
"The price could be more flexible for infrequent users. If it's your main utility that you use daily, then it's a good price."
"Visio is about a $180 dollars to purchase. It is a one-time licensing fee."
"The price of Visio is reasonable."
"The product is inexpensive if you already have Microsoft products in your environment. The license encompasses all the required services."
