We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It has the ability to document in different formats. It is not tied to a specific model. You can look at it from different angles and see the intuitive nature of it. It always generates a valid diagram. You cannot create something that is not BPMN compliant.""The solution is stable. All the refreshes run very well.""It is a stable solution since there has not been any downtime. Everything loads fast.""For me the most valuable feature is that it's one depository for our bank. So it's not like everybody has their critical processes on SharePoint or on their desktops. Everything is centrally located. It's very intuitive, easy to use. The support that I get from IBM is always great.""You can use if from your mobile device or you can be on the desktop. It doesn't matter. You are always connected. It is cloud-based, so you don't have to install anything.""IBM Blueworks Live is cloud-based and provides easy access to all your processes in one place.""In terms of the collaboration features, from the point of discovery, it was useful to go to load up the policies and the rule sets that the client had. And in terms of exploring options and being able to model a variety of different processes, that was incredibly useful as well.""This solution is good at utilizing standards rules for connectivity."

"The solution is easy to scale.""I enjoy the fact that I can go into detail with Visio. In shared communications, I can inspect for any fault in my processes.""It is a scalable solution.""The ability to visualize a workflow is certainly an advantage over just tracking a process in something like Excel.""The Data Objects are hyperlinked to the Standard Operating Procedures, Letters, and Forms.""The interface of the solution is very good. It's easy to navigate.""What I like the most is the simplicity and ease of usage.""The most valuable feature of Visio is the credential management, endpoint manager, and active directory for Microsoft Azure for our hybrid infrastructure. Additionally, there are plenty of features available."

Cons
"Spaces are not well organized; space controls are lacking.""The solution is a very basic discovery product so it doesn't have that much modeling capability. This can be improved.""The ability to create a very structured rule. With the capability that we have right now, Blueworks Live is more process focused. We should be able to enhance it to include a lot more of decisions as well.""In the solution Signavio, they have a customer journey mapping feature that should be added to IBM Blueworks Live. It's valuable to map or document the customer journey to identify the pains and opportunities in this process.""We'd also like to see it be Six Sigma or Lean compatible, a lot of people have asked about that.""In the Blue Works Live software boxes and lines are automatically placed by the programme and can't be easily manipulated.""It is BPMN-compliant but the tool needs to be more involved to get into a completely 2.0 oriented tool. It has a few things but it's not the complete BPMN model.""I would like to see integration with ERP systems. This would help us to simulate the process and see where the problems are. Though IBM Blueworks Live is a good tool for documenting, it is not good for simulating."

More IBM Blueworks Live Cons →

"It requires a lot of skill to get into it.""The solution is pretty expensive.""The performance sometimes lags and has room for improvement.""Visio could be improved by adding more features. If you look at draw.io, they have more features. Also, if you want to design something for the cloud, Microsoft Azure still isn't enabled, so you need to install the plugin. This prototype is easily available, though.""The improvement I want to see in Visio is being able to edit it more quickly, particularly when pulling it out of another software and then editing it on that non-Visio software. Currently, the process affects the overall performance because it's not as quick as I want it to be.""There should be more items available from a variety of other products that can be integrated.""It does not integrate well with other solutions.""The only downside to Visio is the learning curve."

    Reviews from Real Users

Visio has improved my workflow by making it easy to create charts, diagrams, and essential illustrations to use in my client reports and proposals. It has saved me a lot of time I would otherwise spend creating visuals for clients manually.” - Michael B., Principal Consultant at Lexington Consulting

“I use it for diagramming networks, racks, data centers, data flow applications, etc. It is a useful tool to map data flows, network objects, and computer science technology and to show to clients. It does what I need it to do. It's a tool I've used the longest, so I know it the best, and that's probably the claim to fame.” - Greg S., Director of Solution Architecture at Winslow Technology Group

“We use Visio for architecture modeling. We also use it to facilitate communication with other people. The feature I like most about Visio is that it acts as a facilitator of communication, as it displays information in a way that's easier to understand.” - Guy M., IT/Business Architect at a financial services firm
