Many features are standardized, which reduces the need for customization but lacks solutions for some use cases
SAP Business One is primarily used for small to medium businesses in the MSMB market. It helps run the packaged enterprise solution for customers who cannot afford a full-fledged SAP S4HANA solution. It is used for standard finance, warehouse, and supply chain processes One of the biggest…

A great choice for straight manufacturing, but not suitable for complex manufacturing models
SYSPRO at the moment is lacking on the project side. There's a module called Projects and Contracts, and it's a poorly designed module. One of my clients is a project-based organization, and they're finding it extremely difficult to manage their business using SYSPRO, to the point that they're looking at alternative solutions. The Projects and Contracts module is not a very useful tool. It does project accounting reasonably well, but in terms of putting in proper structures, like a work breakdown structure and so forth, it's actually quite poor. Their design or their architecture for the Projects module isn't good enough. They need to redesign it and redevelop it. They have made improvements. However, the problem is that if you're building on a bad foundation, then your building isn't going to be very strong. That's principally their problem. Any heavy equipment company would have a requirement to keep their equipment available for production. In that sense, SYSPRO has no maintenance management functionality. There's also no functionality for field services management. These two functionalities are critical for places like mines or for heavy equipment manufacturers who service the aftermarket and so forth. From a product perspective, this obviously isn't a good place to be because they are sort of taking themselves out of the market for quite a number of industries. They are constrained to manufacturing and distribution.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is scalable."
"I like that it's stable."
"It's useful for users and it's simple to work with."
"So there are a lot of features included with the ERP system."
"The solution is user-friendly in comparison with Oracle."
"I like analytics, dashboard, and KPIs a lot. It is very helpful when I need to check balances and financial statements."
"Add-ons that can be implemented are most valuable."
"We have been satisfied with the technical support."
"The Financial Accounting module, in general, is quite good. It is quite simple but powerful. Similarly, the Manufacturing functionality, including a multiple level bill of materials, is also quite useful."

Cons

"Our company is expanding to different countries, and business is growing. We feel that it is not good enough for the huge volume of the business. On-premises setup is not good enough for the overseas office. We have our onsite premises in Hong Kong, but we have a major sales office in the US. We are looking for a more efficient setup to fulfill our requirements and needs. It can have portals for vendors, suppliers, and customers. I know that they have this feature in version 10, but it still has space to improve."
"The initial implementation is not straightforward. It took approximately three months to complete. The process could be easier."
"There are problems with Business One's collection management and reconciliation."
"SAP Business One could be improved if SAP creates one platform to integrate different solutions, particularly having a multi-company concept rather than having different databases. The solution could be similar to SAP S/4 Hana and the SAP Business ByDesign concept."
"SAP Business One could improve asset management, inventory management, banking system, and production. Additionally, SAP Business One did not deduct TDS, withholding tax on payments."
"They have a web client now. It primarily does sales. They just added purchasing. It'll be far more effective when I have inventory and financials as well into the web client version."
"There are only a few standard reports available and if you want more then they either have to be downloaded or built."
"It could have RPA automation and RPA elements. There could also be add-ons for a Document Management System and Warehouse Management System."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We pay annually. It is around 800 a month."
"I would rate Business One's pricing five out of five."
"I rate the price of SAP Business One a seven out of ten."
"The price of the solution is reasonable."
"Its licensing model is good. There is a one-off payment for the software license, and after that, you only need to pay the annual maintenance fee. Compared to other cloud-based systems, this cost model is quite reasonable for SMEs."
"The price of SAP Business One is reasonable."
"SAP Business One is not cheap."
"The price of SAP Business One is expensive and there is only a standard license."
