We are using Fortinet FortiGate as a firewall Fortinet FortiGate has been invaluable. It has helped save costs due to its various features, reliable performance, very good UI, low latency, and stability. The Threat Intel engine in Fortinet FortiGate is highly rated for its effectiveness in…

Has efficient user access control feature and good technical support services
The multi-core architecture allows the running of multiple instances for checking files, even handling more than 2 GB of data. It has inbuilt reporting features, reducing the cost of external monitoring software. It's well-suited for organizations that need to transfer and scan large files. The scalability is good for small and medium-sized enterprises, but for organizations with more than 200 users, the cost can become a limiting factor. It is more suitable for large enterprises, especially for organizations with over 4,000 users. However, there could be flexibility in licensing, allowing organizations to cater to their specific needs and pay for the features and licenses they require. It can help reduce costs. I rate its scalability a seven out of ten.

Gives us peace of mind with network security, application control, and web server protection
Having previously worked with the Astaro Security Gateway platform (now called Sophos UTM), I can attest that the configuration and dashboard for this older platform was easier to manage than that of both Sophos XG and XGS. If it were up to me, I would prefer to go back to the older SG dashboard. I am hoping that in future, the dashboard for Sophos XGS will be simpler and easier.

"Easy to implement, and it is also reliable."
"The most important features of Fortinet FortiGate are the Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) and firewall control applications."
"The notable features that I have found most valuable are that it includes the antivirus, and also IPS, and even SD-WAN."
"This version is stable. I don't have any issues with this solution, in our environment, it works well."
"We are using the FortiGate 100D series. VPN, firewall, anti-malware, OTM, and intrusion prevention are useful features."
"We have been able to offer several services to customers in a single box."
"It's a very cost-effective solution."
"We like the central interface and we like the security features. Additionally, we use SonicWall with VPN connectivity and we have had no problems with SonicWall all these years."
"I find the security we are able to do with the policies to be valuable. The monitoring is valuable as well."
"The solution's VPN is very good for stability and detecting threats."
"The feature with SonicWall that I have found most valuable is that all the models have the same interface. We don't need to learn different interfaces in the smaller or bigger models."
"Once it's configured properly, the solution is unbreakable."
"The general feature is the antivirus policy, followed by the ransomware protection, and these are the features I was looking at."
"The VPN is quite useful for us, as well as the ATP."
"The feature that I find most valuable is the synchronized security option where the endpoint talks to the firewall."
"The solution offers more antimalware and antivirus feeds than others."
"Sophos XGS' most valuable features are protection and intrusion prevention detection."

"XGS' most valuable feature is ransomware protection."

Cons

"There are some cloud-based features that could be much more flexible than they currently are."
"We would like to have the ability to disable some of the security functionalities."
"WAN load-balancing could be a lot better at detecting when a link is poor or inconsistent, and not just flat out dead."
"With FortiGate, the main complaint that I have heard is about the technical support."
"I would suggest that Fortinet add sandboxing to their solution."
"Cisco Meraki products are rising very quickly in the cloud and the connected era. Meraki products offer much better ROI, upgradability, and manageability."
"I don't really have anything negative to say as far as Fortinet firewalls are concerned. If anything, they can support a user a little bit better. They can stop being so time-sensitive about how much time the support call has taken, and they can help you do it yourself."
"The firewall engine is not so strong as of now, in my opinion... My second concern is that, while they have Zero-day vulnerability and anti-malware features, the threat engine needs to be strengthened, its efficiency can be increased."
"Its pricing can be better. It is very expensive."
"An additional feature that I would like to see is reporting that includes metrics to give me more information about the number of viruses that it has actually detected and interrupted."
"There is a point I don't like about SonicWall in the past and now. Most of the destinations we look at when we're detecting some user using too much bandwidth or something like that, SonicWall just gave us destination IP address, instead of the full qualified domain name. I think that's the most important part that is still missing. I think that's the most important for us."
"The quality of tech support can vary."
"I'd like to have cloud management at no additional cost. Unfortunately, leveraging SonicWall's cloud management capabilities is cost-prohibitive, so we don't use it. They should have a reasonable subscription or offer it to us at no cost as an MSP."
"The stability could be a lot better."
"Sonic Analyzer could be improved. It's difficult to manage and not very intuitive."
"The log analyzer in SonicWall TZ is something that they need to improve upon."
"Compared to Fortinet, the cost is high."
"The stability could be a bit better."
"It would be useful if Sophos XGS included DDNS-based features."
"Sophos XGS could be improved by adding a built-in hyper-converged solution."
"I rate Sophos' support five out of 10. It's sometimes difficult to contact them, and finding a solution is not easy."
"The SD-WAN feature isn't very good. It's there, but it doesn't work properly."
"There are a lot of false-positive cases."
"Sophos XGS could improve by having better integration with Active Directory."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is more expensive than Sophos. Fortinet is overall more expensive than Sophos. The small range of Fortinet, such as 60F and 80F, is more expensive than the small range of Sophos. Sophos is cheaper. In addition, if you jump from 80F Series to 100F Series, the price doubles."
"Price-wise, it's at a good price point for our market."
"Pricing and licensing is a little bit complicated in FortiGate. They are always on the higher side. This is one issue that we always raise with the company that they should reduce the price according to Indian market requirements. There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"Other firewalls are more expensive than Fortinet FortiGate, such as the Azure firewall."
"The product pricing is reasonable."
"Its price could be better."
"Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."
"If you purchase a one-year subscription with the hardware and then you want to renew for the second year, it is very costly."
"The license that we purchased is good for three years."
"The price could be better for us in Bolivia."
"The price of SonicWall TZ is good for medium-sized companies."
"The product is not expensive, but it is not cheap."
"It comes to a range between five hundred to seven hundred dollars."
"There are a few features that are licensed and there should be more that are licensed. The price of the solution is midrange compared to others, I have not had anyone complain."
"The pricing was a factor for us, and we felt that the price was good."
"The price is fair."
"The licensing cost is in the normal range and is not very costly."
"The licensing cost for Sophos XGS is high. However, they do apply competitive discounts and different layers of discounts."
"The licensing is reasonable. Comparing the cost of Sophos XGS with that of Fortinet or Palto Alto firewalls, for instance, it's not that expensive. However, the overall cost depends on the hardware you're using in addition to the licensing cost."
"The cost is comparable to other similar solutions."
"We must purchase separate web server licenses, as they are not included in the regular device license. I would rate the product an eight out of ten in terms of price. It's relatively affordable."
"Sophos XGS is priced lower than some of its competitors, such as Fortinet"
"Sophos XGS is competitively priced."
"The license for Sophos XGS is for three years, paid on a yearly basis. Everything is included with the license; there are no additional fees."
