An expensive next-generation data recovery and backup software solution with poor data restoration
Their restoration protocols could be better. I pulled all my clients out of their cloud mostly because I wasn't confident that they could restore out of the cloud. This was backed up by friends who had been burned by stuff like that. We moved away because of the lack of resources to restore from a potential catastrophic failure. It's challenging, and in some cases, they couldn't do it because they didn't have enough resources. For example, if there was a major disaster, and everybody needed their images out of the cloud, they couldn't give them to everybody.

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is the backups."
"I like that they have some new devices that are simpler to use because they kind of tie right into the cloud."
"Veeam Backup has many valuable features and every feature is different. I have created backups for file-level backup, VMware or hypervisor virtual machines, physical machines, and workstations as well. Every time, I learn something new."
"A quick-working solution that is very user friendly."
"The most valuable aspect is its reliability in recovering any replaceable data in the event of server issues in a production environment."
"Veeam is easy to use."
"One valuable feature of Veeam ONE for backup management is its dashboard, which offers a comprehensive view of backups and other essential data."
"The stability of Veeam ONE is good."
"The tool is good for VMware environments."
"I have found the most valuable feature to be the new CDP features. It is very popular for my customer's needs."

Cons

"StorageCraft ShadowXafe should improve the on-premises console management controls and protection and recovery."
"Their restoration protocols could be better. For example, if there was a major disaster, and everybody needed their images out of the cloud, they couldn't give them to everybody."
"The database backup process could be improved."
"I think that Veeam could improve some performance issues when the backup itself is restored. I'm also using HPE StoreOnce, which has deduplication, and when I'm trying to test or run backups, it takes a lot of time. I think they could improve the testing for backup copies."
"The cloud backups from Veeam Backup Replication have not been good. Addiotnaally, the backups of Office 365 and the overall performance can always be improved."
"The interface and cluster environments could be improved in the future as presently they are using agent interface instead of user interface. Also, the backup for the Oracle WAC environment can be improved."
"In the future, Veeam should release a hardware backup appliance that can be integrated with their software."
"We had one problem once with the network."
"I think Veeam needs to improve the file installation process, as well as more technical things like snapping feature issues. Sometimes during backup, when it's taking the scan snaps on the ESXi, it started and didn't remove the snapshot from there, which consumed storage on the EXSi. It could be improved with more technical depth. The response time for Veeam's technical support could also be improved."
"In Linux, I suggest you backup for a PostgreSQL database."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"They are more expensive than some of the others out there. We have gone away from their cloud due to pricing."
"The price of Veeam Backup Replication has been increasing their price and my customers are asking why. They have CPU-based licenses and a Universal License, the prices should be reduced."
"I would rate the pricing six out of ten when compared to other competitors."
"Its software solution has a fee."
"Customers require a perpetual license for the product. However, along with the license, they must also subscribe to the support service for one year or three years under a separate contract."
"They have a free edition that can back up up to 10 VMs or physical servers. Small and medium businesses can use this edition until they can afford to get a license, and after they get a license, they just activate it on the same console. That's the amazing thing about it."
"Room for improvement is actually more in the way of licensing. The really good and useful features are in the Enterprise plus edition, and that one is really expensive."
"We dont have the exact licensing costs, but we pay for a comprehensive service package that includes technical support, cloud services, and data center services. There may be additional costs beyond the standard license, but I'm not sure about the specifics. However, I believe the yearly cost is around five thousand dollars."
"It is more cost-effective than some of the other solutions, but a lot of that comes down to the fact that we're a reseller. So, depending upon the deal, we do negotiate different price points for different customers. The price varies depending upon the size of the customer, the size of the deal, and the discounts we can negotiate."
