An expensive next-generation data recovery and backup software solution with poor data restoration
Their restoration protocols could be better. I pulled all my clients out of their cloud mostly because I wasn't confident that they could restore out of the cloud. This was backed up by friends who had been burned by stuff like that. We moved away because of the lack of resources to restore from a potential catastrophic failure. It's challenging, and in some cases, they couldn't do it because they didn't have enough resources. For example, if there was a major disaster, and everybody needed their images out of the cloud, they couldn't give them to everybody.

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is the backups."
"The technical support has been very good."
"I like that they have some new devices that are simpler to use because they kind of tie right into the cloud."
"From my perspective, Veeam does everything; they're my number one product."
"Nutanix technical support is excellent; you can't get better; you won't get better."
"The integration of Veeam Backup Replication is very good."
"The most valuable data protection features in Veeam are encryption and error handling."
"It's streamlined the backup and recovery for my customers in the sense that it has an easy management console that's easy to set up any type of instant recovery."
"The documentation is very good and it's also easy to install Veeam Backup and Replication."
"The flexibility is the most valuable feature; it is an all-in-one solution for all kinds of infrastructure (physical, cloud, VM)."
"WAN Accelerator helps tremendously with replicating our data because we have a large chunk of data that gets replicated between our two facilities."

Cons

"StorageCraft ShadowXafe should improve the on-premises console management controls and protection and recovery."
"I wouldn't use it. It failed me every time I tried to use it in a real-life scenario."
"Their restoration protocols could be better. For example, if there was a major disaster, and everybody needed their images out of the cloud, they couldn't give them to everybody."
"There is always some room for improvement, especially with some of the different technologies such as DB2. Commvault has a DB2 agent, but Veeam still doesn't have it. We have to use the universal one for it."
"The solution keeps getting more and more expensive. They should work on the pricing."
"It would be nice if it could be integrated with third-party solutions like ours. It has been supporting just Windows and virtual machines."
"Tape support is still not performing as expected (at least for my opinion) as Veeam relates to tape backup as a repository instead of a long term archive."
"Support for physical servers. Although we are continuing to virtualize all of our servers; there are, at this time, a few physical servers in our organization."
"I think it would be great to have the ability to use WAN acceleration as an integrated feature for local backup storage to save a lot more space."
"I think Veeam needs to improve the file installation process, as well as more technical things like snapping feature issues."
"The pricing is high. It's not the cheapest on the market."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"They are more expensive than some of the others out there. We have gone away from their cloud due to pricing."
"It is not expensive and I would rate it five out of ten."
"It's an extremely cost-effective solution."
"The cost is expensive. It will depend on how you are managing your environment, your requirements, and if you can easily manage a license. It's not that difficult, so you can manage it, but the cost is high, so you need to check directly with Veeam as well as the local partner so you can get the discount prices."
"We pay for the license of Veeam Backup Replication on an annual basis. The cost of the license is approximately 70,000 rials. The support and maintenance are included in the price."
"Veeam ONE is moderately priced, where it is neither expensive nor cheap."
"It is reasonably very cheap. I would rate the licensing model a one out of ten, where one is very affordable and ten is extremely expensive."
"I acknowledge there are concerns about pricing, specifically in gaining more customers for VM. We've encountered difficulties in convincing them due to pricing issues. So, I rate it a six."
"Our licensing cost is $200 a year."

Disaster recovery planning is something that seems challenging for all businesses. Virtualization in addition to its operational flexibility, and cost reduction benefits, has helped companies improve their DR posture. Virtualization has made it easier to move machines from production to…
