Good backup retention but it is not a reliable platform and it doesn't giving any sort of alerts that things are not working
StorageCraft wasn't getting full backup coverage. It was backing up around 1 to 2% of the points. It was not a reliable platform and it wasn't giving any sort of alerts that things were not working. The majority of stuff wasn't backed up, so we really weren't happy with them. That's when we went on the look for a new solution.

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The backup retention was pretty good, and being able to archive users who had been backed up is good functionality because even if they've been deactivated it'll keep the backups and keep them protected."
"This is one of the best solutions, Veeam, to retrieve machines if a disaster happens."
"ROI for backup point of view comes only when you are in a condition that only backup can help, I have been in such conditions many times in which Veeam has proved to be an EXCELLENT ROI for my company."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is its backup feature."
"My advice would be to go ahead with the implementation as I think it's the best product on market today for VMware ESXi disaster recovery."
"Get only one interface to manage all backup sites, secure them with replication, and manage outside LTO media."
"I have found the most valuable feature to be the new CDP features, which are very popular for my customer's needs and the solution is user-friendly."
"The technical support is very good and they are very responsive."
"The primary use case of this product is for disaster recovery and ransomware protection."

Cons

"StorageCraft wasn't getting full backup coverage. It was backing up around one to 2% of the points. It was not a reliable platform and it wasn't giving any sort of alerts that things were not working."
"Veeam ONE does not easily recognize hardware issues within the infrastructure out of the box which costs some administrative overhead."
"The solution needs more detailed reporting."
"Archive to tape could be better, but the new version might do this, and generally it’s a great product."
"The technical support does not compare well to other providers."
"Speed and more management."
"They have recently moved to universal licensing, which is more expensive, and I would like them to go back to host licensing."
"I would like to see the replication and a recovery plan of the servers in the cloud. It's very important."
"The escalation from first, second to third tier is sometimes very long-lasting, but the resolve rate is quite high."

VMware SRM vs. Veeam vs. Zerto
Disaster recovery planning is something that seems challenging for all businesses. Virtualization in addition to its operational flexibility, and cost reduction benefits, has helped companies improve their DR posture. Virtualization has made it easier to move machines from production to…
