Great access to multiple devices, with stability, at an affordable price
Pros and Cons
  • "It is simple to use and it allows me to give me the opportunity to access anything I want from any device."
  • "I think it should be more user-friendly with more tutorials on the full scale of the program."

What is our primary use case?

I use it because I have to access my data with different devices. So, it actually helps me no matter where I am or which device I'm using to be able to not lose any of the files that I have. As for my personal use, I have it mostly to transfer my data and some information that I want, so I won't lose it from phone to phone, or in general, from a device that I am using.

What is most valuable?

It is simple to use and it allows me to give me the opportunity to access anything I want from any device.

What needs improvement?

I think it should be more user-friendly with more tutorials on the full scale of the program. I think there is still room for improvement and I am pretty sure they will come up with some more features in the program.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft OneDrive for the past two years.

Stable with great integrations and lots of collaboration potential
Pros and Cons
  • "With this solution, the sharing of documents if very easy to do. There's a lot of collaboration you can do with your colleagues."
  • "The online application is quite limited, for this and other Office offerings."

What is most valuable?

The solution offers fantastic integration with Outlook. There's also easy integration with SharePoint. It works well within the Microsoft family of applications.

With this solution, the sharing of documents if very easy to do. There's a lot of collaboration you can do with your colleagues.

What needs improvement?

The online application is quite limited, for this and other Office offerings.

The solution is pricey, even though you get a lot of applications with it.

For how long have I used the solution?

It's been almost one year now since we started using it. We began using the solution when we got a subscription to Microsoft Office 365, as it was included as part of the package.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable. I don't recall dealing with any bugs or crashes. There aren't glitches. It doesn't freeze. I'd say it is pretty reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would say that you can scale the solution. If a company needs to expand it out, they should be able to without too much trouble.

Currently, we have 70 users on it within our organization.

How are customer service and technical support?

I've had experience with Microsoft's technical support and have used them on a few occasions. they're quite good. I have no complaints. We're satisfied with the level of service at this time.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup wasn't straightforward or complex. It was something in the middle. It had a moderate amount of difficulty.

In our organizations, deployment took about a month or so to complete.

What about the implementation team?

We had assistance from a partner. We did not install the solution on our own.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution can be a bit expensive.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did look at G Suite previously before deciding to go ahead with this solution instead. At the time, we compared the two and decided Microsoft Office's suite, including OneDrive, just offered a bit more for us and that G Suite wasn't quite at their level yet.

What other advice do I have?

We're just a customer; we simply use the product. We don't have a business relationship with Microsoft.

We're using multiple Microsoft apps, including Office 365, which comes with One Drive, SharePoint, Teams, and other apps.

We're using the latest version of the solution.

It's a good solution. Organizations new to the solution won't have to do much prep work before diving into it.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

Image management is great since the search is simple, and accessing images with labels is easy
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is to be able to modify the file online and keep it stored on the cloud, since it is not necessary to download it to make modifications."
  • "Image management is great since the search is simple, and accessing images with labels is easy."
  • "An online video player would be great, since sometimes you have to download the video to play it."
  • "An increase in the capacity of storage in the free version would be nice."

What is our primary use case?

OneDrive has been used in a personal setting for several years, but with the project of making a blog it has served me by hosting important files that I must place on the page. It is important to highlight that because of the option to share, I have been able to work with other colleagues that help me on the blog project, who edit and modify the shared items in order to improve them. On the other hand, when blog users have to download a document, OneDrive is the main server where I host office files in general, since from that platform I can make editions with the online programs that complement the online service of Microsoft.

How has it helped my organization?

It has allowed the information to flow smoothly, thanks to the OneDrive server. Now the guides, brochures and other documents necessary for teaching are available to everyone. Users should simply review the document and if they prefer, they can download as well. This solution has hosted documents in general that otherwise would have to be printed, and the visualization of these documents can be accomplished by a personal computer, a tablet or a smart phone. The information is available to anyone from any platform and operating system.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is to be able to modify the file online and keep it stored on the cloud, since it is not necessary to download it to make modifications. Modifications can only be made by people with permissions given by the administrator of the document. Another feature that I like is the visualization of images. It is excellent, the images are shown in a good way, and the image management is great since the search is simple, and accessing images with labels is easy.

What needs improvement?

An online video player would be great, since sometimes you have to download the video to play it. Also, an increase in the capacity of storage in the free version would be nice. Offer more plans in the paid version. It would also be convenient if from OneDrive you could listen to music or audio files that are uploaded to the cloud that include an online multimedia player, which allows the reproduction and visualization of multimedia files in general.

For how long have I used the solution?

More than five years.

Easy to navigate, simple to use, and quite stable
Pros and Cons
  • "It's pretty easy to learn. Once someone taught me, I was able to navigate it quite easily."
  • "The solution has sub-folders, which are visible to various team members. If you want to ensure the information is private, you would need to have a certain level of seniority in the office."

What is our primary use case?

I primarily use the solution for both professional work and school work.

What is most valuable?

The organization of the solution is its most valuable aspect.

I'm able to pull it from other computers. I don't have to be in a specific place or on a specific machine in order to access it. I can go into the office and log in, or, I can use it from home. It's easily accessible from multiple places that I use.

It's pretty easy to learn. Once someone taught me, I was able to navigate it quite quickly.

Admins are able to control access to certain files.

What needs improvement?

I'm not sure of any features the solution is missing. For me, for what I need, it works. I don't see room for improvement.

The solution has sub-folders, which are visible to various team members. If you want to ensure the information is private, you would need to have a certain level of seniority in the office or administration rights. This would allow you to change its visibility.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been dealing with the solution for the last two years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is quite stable. If there's ever a problem with accessibility, it's likely because a server went down, not because of the product itself. It doesn't crash or freeze. I don't recall ever dealing with bugs and glitches. I've never lost files or had it stop working in the middle of a project.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There are about 25 of us using the solution. Everyone ends up using it.

As I've become quite comfortable with the solution, I will continue to use it going forward.

How are customer service and technical support?

I've never dealt with Microsoft tech support directly. We may have a subcontractor, or a go-between, between our data that's loaded into our computers and our work. I've never gone to the platform and talked to Microsoft directly.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I didn't previously use another solution. This product came as part of a package, and I've simply taken care of its capabilities.

What other advice do I have?

I don't know if my company has a business relationship with Microsoft of not.

I'm not sure which version of the solution I'm using. It's likely the most recent, as it's a cloud-based solution.

It's pretty universal, it's not hard to work with. Once you put something in the OneDrive, it is part of the office environment. We would be able to see each other's subfiles, so to speak. That makes it transparent and easy to share, but it also means you have to be cautious with who you share with.

I'm familiar with it now, and really like working with it. I'll continue to work with it whether that's at home or through school as I've grown to understand the product pretty well.

I'd rate the solution ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Has the ability to open up on Windows Explorer to see the file structure in the normal format
Pros and Cons
  • "Being able to use OneDrive as a mapped drive in Windows Explorer is the most valuable feature. Rather than using OneDrive on a browser, you can also open up the Windows Explorer and I can see the file structure in the normal format."
  • "If I want to pick out certain criteria of pictures, Google enables me to do that whereas OneDrive is a bit sort of flaky."

What is most valuable?

Being able to use OneDrive as a mapped drive in Windows Explorer is the most valuable feature. Rather than using OneDrive on a browser, you can also open up the Windows Explorer and I can see the file structure in the normal format.

What needs improvement?

It should be more tailored towards pictures and video content. I have Google Drive purely just to look after my pictures and video because the way they organize videos and pictures is easier, and is a lot easier to retrieve a needle in a haystack. If I want to pick out certain criteria of pictures, Google enables me to do that whereas OneDrive is a bit flaky.

I'd like to see more integration with Microsoft Teams. The back end file structure is based on SharePoint. When you open up a file within Teams, it says to open up in SharePoint and I hate SharePoint. I'd like it if I can knowing full well that all my data repository is stored and in the back end on OneDrive and I can just work in conjunction with Microsoft Teams, not SharePoint. SharePoint is useless.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using OneDrive for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Apart from the internet, Microsoft has the largest infrastructure backbone, inter-network apart from the internet. We know we're in trusted hands and it's going to be scalable. Our data is going to be preserved across regional data centers. If there's a catastrophic event in a particular region, our data is replicated across other continents, so we can retrieve it. It is a fail-safe mechanism and it's going to be locked down and secure. I've not heard of any instances of data breaches within OneDrive.

There are five OneDrive users in my company.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used a mixture of Dropbox and Google Drive. I moved over to OneDrive because it had better storage than Google, but I still keep a hold of Google purely just for videos and pictures. At one time, I get six terabytes of OneDrive cloud storage so that's a lot more than I would get with Google.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was easy. It happened overnight.

What other advice do I have?

If you're a Microsoft customer and you use Office 365, it works and integrates seamlessly. So most people out there use Microsoft Office products and it works hand in hand.

I would rate OneDrive an eight out of ten.

Allows us to share documents without the need of extra hardware
Pros and Cons
  • "It was extremely easy to setup."
  • "We use Microsoft OneDrive for file sharing without the need for additional hardware (such as flash drives or external hard drives)."
  • "I would advice not storage sensitive information since it could be prone to hacking."
  • "The website could be improved. Sometimes I try to login and the website has issues, I can't retrieve my documents."

What is our primary use case?

In our business, we usually use Microsoft OneDrive for file sharing without the need for additional hardware (such as flash drives or external hard drives). Working in an engineering company, OneDrive is useful when submitting documents to clients.

How has it helped my organization?

OneDrive has improved our organization since it has allowed us to share files without the need of an intricate intranet connection. We just use an internet connection.

What is most valuable?

What I find the most valuable is that while working with documents saved in the cloud, they autosave. This saves considerable time and ensures that your documents will not be lost.

I also love that it comes pre-installed with Windows 8 and 10. This saves time since we do not need to install any software to start saving or sharing documents.

What needs improvement?

The website could be improved. Sometimes I try to login and the website has issues, I can't retrieve my documents.

Also, I would love it if Excel documents saved with a password, since it would represent double document security.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have not had any problems.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have not had any problems.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used iCloud as well. However, I switched away from it because I am using a Windows operative system. OneDrive's compatibility is much better than Apple iCloud.

How was the initial setup?

It was extremely easy to setup.

What was our ROI?

Using this software, it has had an amazing impact moneywise on our business. It allows us to share documents without the need of extra hardware.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Costwise, it is a great option. In most cases, it is a free space, which will be more than enough for most customers.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I evaluated using Google Drive. However, it was a bit pricey, so I decided on using OneDrive.

What other advice do I have?

I believe Microsoft OneDrive is one of the best cloud storage options in the market. I would advice not storage sensitive information since it could be prone to hacking, but it is a great solution for document sharing.

Together with Office 365, it helps me collaborate instead of sending attachments via email to colleagues.

Valuable Features:

On OneDrive for Business, I like a lot the similar environment as I have actually in SharePoint Server. It’s because of the same “background”. OneDrive is nothing but a customized SharePoint subsite. If you have Office 365, you can take a look on the site collection dedicated to OneDrive for Business. The funny thing is that this site collection doesn’t spend any space (1 TB of SharePoint space and unlimited space in OneDrive for Business in E3 plan). Another great feature is the possibility of selecting specific folders to synchronize – this specific function was for me, finally, proof of the readiness of this tool for my purposes and decision-maker for migration to OneDrive for Business from the other tools. The next very important features are bandwidth control in the latest version and the possibility to pause the synchronization.

Improvements to My Organization:

Regarding my organization, this product helps me a lot, together with latest version of Office 365, to collaborate a little bit more instead of sending huge attachments via email to 10 colleagues etc. This moment was really great. A lot of my colleagues discover functions in Office 2016 especially in Outlook – where you are able to add attachments from latest documents (not only Office) and if you work with documents directly from the cloud (SharePoint/OneDrive for Business), you are able to add just the shortcut to the cloud destination. This is better collaboration. I always say that you will discover the level of company collaboration based on the size of the Exchange mailbox. J

Room for Improvement:

Well, compared to some other products, there is a lot of room for improvements. To be honest, I have already referred to bandwidth control, about the possibility to select folders to synchronize etc. These are really old features in other products and in OneDrive for Business, it is hot news. So I think that there is a lot of room for improvements. I think that it is good idea to continue with improvements to the desktop client tool. I also like the merge between the OneDrive and OneDrive for Business (now, it is the same process in task manager).

Implementation Team:

From my point of view, there should be cooperation between the company data and network share drives that can can be partially extended (if not completely migrated) to cloud. I understand that some of the data cannot be just moved outside the organization, but in almost 100% of the time, this is not related to all the data.

It is important to decide what data should be migrated to the company SharePoint and which one should be migrated to the company OneDrive for Business. For example, Home folders are another excellent case related to possibility of migration to OneDrive for Business. In the latest versions, the borders between the SharePoint document libraries and OneDrive for business are almost gone. These two entities look almost the same and other changes will come.

Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer: Redtoo, where I work at the moment in the position of Principal Architect and Head of Microsoft Department, are a Microsoft Silver Partner in six competencies.

Document sharing is a valuable feature; user interface could be more intuitive
Pros and Cons
  • "Ability to share documents."
  • "The user interface could be a little more intuitive."

What is our primary use case?

People in our company often use different methods for storage of their documents. So we've had access to OneDrive for collaboration between employees. I'm a manager of the company and we're customers of Microsoft.

What is most valuable?

The ability to share documents is a valuable feature of this product.

What needs improvement?

The user interface could be a little more intuitive and user friendly. It would also make a difference if they would work on the design a little bit.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using this solution for a couple of years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. Our whole company has access to it but I'd say around 25% are using it.

What other advice do I have?

I think a lot of it comes down to the change management aspect of it, rather than the actual solution. Most of the IT solutions are pretty good in their own way. They might not be completely comparable. That is what we're finding, that it's more about getting people to adopt a product.

I'd rate this solution a six out of 10.
