I'm an SAP software developer. We use the product for many different functions; financial production, material management, distribution functions. Everything.
Group Integration Tools Manager at TITAN
CDS and HANA database are invaluable features
Pros and Cons
- "The HANA database is a valuable feature"
- "Doesn't have a common development environment."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
CDS use would be the most valuable feature. The HANA database is also valuable.
What needs improvement?
I'm on the developer side of the product and my view, for now, is that the product is fine. I'm comfortable with it. Based on my product experience, I don't have any problems with it. If I would suggest something it would be that they unify the developer tools.
For the next release, it would be helpful if they would include a common development environment.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the product for three years.

AGM, Enterprise Solutions at Omgea Exim Ltd
Scalable with many available modules and good stability
Pros and Cons
- "The solution adds great value to any organization."
- "The product can be very complex."
What is our primary use case?
We only provide the infrastructure, not the solution. We use just the infrastructure that we provide to our customers and customers include the system integrated to deploy the SAP S/4HANA inside the AWS infrastructure. The customer likes it that way.
In every organization, there are several systems including project management and production planning. They can get integrated in a way that they can actually link up with all these departments and get common visibility. Clients use SAP for that.
What is most valuable?
SAP is number one in the world in all the years I've used this solution. There are other ERP solutions such as Oracle (EBS). There are other ERPs and different ERPs, however, SAP is number one in terms of providing the complex modules so that the customer can have complete automation and complete visibility.
The solution adds great value to any organization.
The solution is very stable.
The scalability is good.
What needs improvement?
The product can be very complex.
It is not extremely user-friendly.
If you want to learn SAP S/4HANA the resources are not available and it's very difficult to learn. We found that aspect very difficult.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used this particular solution for over three years, however, my total experience on SAP S4HANA, and in terms of providing infrastructure for SAP solutions, I have more than 13 years of experience now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is very good. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. The solution is very reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution scales well. You can integrate almost any application with SAP and you can pull data from SAP or input data in SAP.
We have more than 20 SAP clients, however, only five are on the cloud.
How are customer service and technical support?
AWS support is very good, although it is expensive.
How was the initial setup?
The solution is rather difficult to set up. It's not simple or straightforward. Only a few people know how to install SAP in our country.
That said, I do not install the solution myself. We only sell the license. Our customers have someone else handle the implementation, which may take about 20 hours or so to deploy.
We are not a service provider or deployment provider for SAP and therefore, we do not handle maintenance. We do resale only. For that, we have a pre-sales team of two members and we have a sales team. We sell licenses only.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
If clients are setting up the solution as an infrastructure as a service, they have to bring on their own license.
What other advice do I have?
We are authorized to sell SAP. We only provide infrastructure licensing.
If our client's company would like to deploy SAP S/4HANA on the cloud, then we provide the AWS infrastructure or Huawei infrastructure to clients to deploy.
SAP B1 customers are not taking infrastructure from the cloud. They are directly taking the SAP B1 as a service on-premises. S/4HANA has separate modules that you can have on cloud models, and we do provide the cloud infrastructure to deploy S/4HANA.
We use infrastructure as a service for SAP S/4HANA deployment, though AWS has a separate offering where you can have a platform as a service offering, meaning that they will provide the infrastructure and provide SAP.
We highly recommend the solution to others and find that every year we have more and more clients implementing it.
I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

Infrastructure Manager at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
Plenty of features and scalable
Pros and Cons
- "We have approximately 1,000 people using the solution in my organization. The solution is scalable."
- "SAP S4HANA on AWS could improve by having the entire solution available as a web solution. They only have Fiori right now, and it's a solution for certain modules, but not for all the modules that SAP currently has. We would like to see the GUI removed, it is not very good. We want it to be web-based."
What is most valuable?
I have found a lot of the features that SAP S4HANA provides are very good.
What needs improvement?
SAP S4HANA on AWS could improve by having the entire solution available as a web solution. They only have Fiori right now, and it's a solution for certain modules, but not for all the modules that SAP currently has. We would like to see the GUI removed, it is not very good. We want it to be web-based.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used SAP S4HANA on AWS within the past 12 months.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have approximately 1,000 people using the solution in my organization. The solution is scalable.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support we have received has been okay. We need to get used to using the cloud solution coming from the on-premise version. The cloud service has lead time requirements, the time before they take your case or an incident, depending on the incident, whether it is a high-priority, medium, or low. All of the lead times or waiting times for the requirement have to be taken into account. This is something that people must be willing to accept when going to this type of service because when you have on-premise, usually, you have people dedicated to it. The times are a lot shorter.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of SAP S4HANA on AWS is complex. The deployment took approximately one year. We had approximately 80 working on the functionality of the solution and 40 people from the IT department assisting with the deployment.
What about the implementation team?
We used a reseller from Central America for the deployment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We pay a monthly fee for the use of SAP S4HANA on AWS for approximately five years. That's the time of the contract.
There are no additional costs other than the license. However, there are other costs that come from the partners or reseller who is doing the implementation. If you want any changes or anything that wasn't taken into account at the moment you were implementing it or you need support, the cost might be very high. This is something that needs to be taken into account.
What other advice do I have?
I rate SAP S4HANA on AWS an eight out of ten.

Digital Platform Manager at Strategic Synergy Inc
Enables us to virtualize our AX environment and has a user-friendly interface
Pros and Cons
- "I like that they are very familiar with our VM which makes it easy to use."
- "I would like for them to have more integration with virtualization platforms."
What is our primary use case?
We implement it for our clients. Our primary use case is to virtualize our AX environment.
What is most valuable?
I like that they are very familiar with our VM which makes it easy to use.
Its best features are its interface. It has a user-friendly interface.
What needs improvement?
I would like for them to have more integration with virtualization platforms.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using SAP S/4HANA for the last ten years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It's one of the most stable virtualization softwares I have used.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability lacks on clustering capabilities.
Our clients are mostly enterprise size.
How are customer service and technical support?
We contact technical support if we have issues but most of the time we can resolve an issue by ourselves. They're good but there's always room for improvement.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward. It can take one or two days depending on the setup.
It usually only requires one person for the setup but on occasion, it can require two.
What other advice do I have?
There should be the ability to deploy with clustering of different servers. They should add different types of advisory management.
I would rate it an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

SAP Support Manager at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
A well-integrated solution that is suitable for many different industries
Pros and Cons
- "This solution has one of the most modern databases and it is very stable."
- "This solution is very resource-intensive, including high memory and CPU utilization."
What is our primary use case?
We are a technical services company and this is one of the solutions that we provide to our customers. We work with all of the SAP solutions.
This solution is suitable for many businesses and industries. For example, I have seen a complete solution for the construction industry.
This is a cloud solution.
What is most valuable?
This is a perfectly integrated solution.
What needs improvement?
This solution is very resource-intensive, including high memory and CPU utilization.
This product needs to be made more available for the normal user, like those by Microsoft or Oracle. For example, it should be free for individuals, and usable on a laptop.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with this solution for more than a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This solution has one of the most modern databases and it is very stable. I have not faced any issues with it.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This solution is scalable if you are talking about the functional or technical side.
I have a customer with nine hundred branches and has not faced any issues.
How are customer service and technical support?
We handle the support of this solution for our customers. We implement all of the methodologies and all of the support tools.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I am a database expert and I have worked with Oracle products for fifteen years.
How was the initial setup?
The business teams and technical teams have not complained about the initial setup, so I think that it is ok.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Licensing fees are on an annual basis.
What other advice do I have?
This solution is fantastic, and I fully recommend it as I recommend all SAP solutions. All of their products are good for SMEs or for large enterprises.
From the functional side, there is very little room for improvement in this solution. There are always enhancements that can be made, of course.
It is not easy to find people with knowledge of the HANA database. People skilled in HANA are rare and expensive, unlike Oracle, where you can find thousands of CVs for database administrators.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Director IT Infrastructure at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
In-memory is very fast and the interface is a highlight
Pros and Cons
- "The Fiori interface is the most valuable feature. It's one of the highlights that they offer. The in-memory of S4 is very fast."
- "Not just S4 but for SAP in general, the price is a little high because they have implemented a new licensing scheme on a number of connections. The price being too expensive is some of the feedback we get from our customers."
What is our primary use case?
The use cases for this solution will depend on our customer's industry. It can be manufacturing, retail, HR, etc..
What is most valuable?
The Fiori interface is the most valuable feature. It's one of the highlights that they offer. The in-memory of S4 is very fast.
What needs improvement?
Not just S4 but for SAP in general, the price is a little high because they have implemented a new licensing scheme on a number of connections. The price being too expensive is some of the feedback we get from our customers.
In the next release, I would like to see more support for more cloud providers. Because right now it's only AWS and Azure that it certifies.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using it for the last four years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have five to fifteen users consisting of our application team, infrastructure team, and some of our clients.
For the maintenance of this solution you would need first, second, and third-level, so around five people in total.
How are customer service and technical support?
Their support is very good. They respond quickly.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward because they have templates that you can use to build on it. In terms of how long it takes to deploy, if it's basic it can be done within a day.
There are a lot of factors, if there are migrations it usually takes around three months plus.
What other advice do I have?
Planning is very important before undergoing an S4 implementation and upgrade. The functional components need to be planned and tested thoroughly. Otherwise, the lines will not be met. Try to do a Greenfield implementation because it will be much simpler.
I would rate it an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud
