Easy to manage, stable with great platforms
Pros and Cons
  • "It's a well priced solution and as far as I'm concerned, it's enterprise class."
  • "There's one feature missing and that is automatic channel assignment."

What is most valuable?

Valuable features include the fact that the solution is very easy to manage. The Unify platform is very good and the Edge platform is very stable. It's a well priced solution and as far as I'm concerned, it's enterprise class. Training was easy and reasonable, and it's all very good.

What needs improvement?

There's one feature that they're missing that's critical, and that is automatic channel assignment. RF channel assignment, which their current controller is not doing. Cisco has this but Ubiquiti doesn't. The only time the channel is reassigned is during reboot of the access point. But there's no dynamic channel management and power management of the Ubiquiti gear.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

Excellent pricing, good functionality, and very scalable
Pros and Cons
  • "The pricing of the solution is excellent. It offers a great value."
  • "The solution should offer simpler management for guests. That would be helpful in the hospitality industry, for example."

What is our primary use case?

We've used this solution for consulting and industrial companies.

What is most valuable?

It's a good, quality product.

The pricing of the solution is excellent. It offers a great value.

What needs improvement?

The roaming between the cells could be a bit improved.

The solution should offer simpler management for guests. That would be helpful in the hospitality industry, for example.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been dealing with the solution for three or four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is largely stable. Sometimes the controller crashes, however, the access points work correctly. We've found that now that they have changed the controller it's more stable. For the most part, it's okay.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is very easy to scale. If a company needs to expand this solution, it can do so fairly easily.

How are customer service and technical support?

There isn't really technical to speak of. You can't just call anyone.

You have only an online community. I only opened up one ticket to them for a personal product that I bought from them. It was a camera. The answer from the technician was via email and it took a very long to get an answer without a real solution. It's declared that you pay less due to the lack of support, and, if you need help, you go to find your answers within the community.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very straightforward. It's not complex at all.

Deployment is very, very fast. It only takes about three minutes or so.

We'll handle the maintenance for our client as required.

What about the implementation team?

Our company can handle the implementation for our clients. However, they must read the manual and understand the solution as well.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is much more affordable than other options, including Meraki and Fortinet.

All services are including in the price. You don't have to pay for add-ons, for example.

You buy it. It's easy to pay for it. After that, there's nothing else to worry about in terms of licensing. Only when it breaks do you have to worry.

The warranty for Ubiquiti is only one year. You cannot renew or extend the warranty. If after one year it's broken, you need to buy another one.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

If you are comparing this solution to Cisco or Fortinet, the main difference is the price.

However, behind Fortinet and Cisco Meraki you have the support and you have a controller with more functionality. They are a different kind of product. That said, the big difference is based on the price and the budget of the customer.

What other advice do I have?

We're resellers. You don't need to have a relationship with the product in order to sell it. In other cases, you need to be certified. We have certification with Fortinet and Cisco Meraki as well.

Whether or not we use the latest version of the solution depends on the clients and their needs.

Ubiquiti has both on-premise and cloud. It has a controller whereby you can access the cloud.

The solution is best suited for small to medium-sized enterprises.

I'd recommend the solution. I use it myself, and you can't beat the price.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. It's quite good.

Very good cloud management with an easy setup but the stability could be improved
Pros and Cons
  • "We use the solution for many of our smaller customers and the cloud management aspect of the solution is very good. If you compare it to other vendors that have a controller, it's much easier to manage the cloud-based solution because we travel a lot. It allows us to manage everything from any place."
  • "We tried to create an access point with built-in voice and sound that we could use in schools, for example. We tried to create something that could play sounds or messages out of the access points. We wanted to, for example, use it as a school bell instead of using other equipment. It didn't work very well. It turns out when you connect to the Ubiquiti Wireless access point, it's not possible to send simple messages (like what is going on in the canteen, or some news update for the school, etc.). We had to use the on-premises version, as the cloud version wouldn't allow for this."

What is our primary use case?

We mostly use the solution for Wi-Fi access points. Mostly it's indoors, but sometimes it's outdoors as well.

What is most valuable?

We use the solution for many of our smaller customers and the cloud management aspect of the solution is very good. If you compare it to other vendors that have a controller, it's much easier to manage the cloud-based solution because we travel a lot. It allows us to manage everything from any place.

What needs improvement?

We tried to create an access point with built-in voice and sound that we could use in schools, for example. We had to use the on-premises version, as the cloud version wouldn't allow for this.

Ubiquiti has a lot of cool features but not everything is included in the management portal. I'd like to see a bit more added, like sound messages and the camera system. They should be part of the management platform and not part of a standalone system.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for four years or so.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is okay, but we do have problems if we use it for heavily populated areas (like an airport). We sometimes lose connectivity, but normally we use it for not so populated areas. For a normal-sized school, there's no stability problem. It works very well there because it's relatively small.

How are customer service and technical support?

We've never had to contact technical support. We fix any problems ourselves.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup, at least the switches in and the access points, is very easy.

What about the implementation team?

I handle the implementation myself. I'm a WI-FI technician, so other people tend to ask me for help.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We don't pay any licensing costs. You can choose a subscription package it you prefer, or just pay once.

What other advice do I have?

We are a reseller of Ubiquiti hardware.

We always use the most up-to-date version of the solution and update it all the time. We use the private cloud deployment model. We've also used the on-premises deployment model, however, most clients prefer the private cloud.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

Cost-effective, scales well, reliable, but they have security flaws
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the simplicity, the ease of use."
  • "After upgrades to the interface, some features disappear."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution as wifi wireless points and controllers.

What is most valuable?

I like the simplicity, the ease of use.

What needs improvement?

Occasionally the upgraded firmware causes errors. When they update the interface some features disappear.

There are some outstanding security flaws.

We had a security incident that forced us to re-evaluate our security posture, when we did, we were corporate mandated to stop using it.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Ubiquiti Wireless for eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is very good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Ubiquiti Wireless scales very well.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's a cost-effective solution.

What other advice do I have?

This solution is better suited for small to medium-sized businesses.

I would rate Ubiquiti Wireless a seven out of ten.

Is stable and easy to install
Pros and Cons
  • "I like that it's very easy and very stable. It's easy to install as well."
  • "We need an official distributor in Egypt as we don't have one right now."

What is our primary use case?

It's useful for me because I can extend more devices to my clients so that they can connect in the summertime. In the summertime, you have high traffic because everyone is on vacation, and they can connect to a wireless solution.

What is most valuable?

I like that it's very easy and very stable. It's easy to install as well.

What needs improvement?

We need an official distributor in Egypt as we don't have one right now. Also, integration with other platforms will be good.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using it for six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a very stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Sometimes, I feel it's scalable. We have 500 users of this solution.

How was the initial setup?

It took 10 minutes to install one device. We needed 2 administrators for installation and maintenance.

What other advice do I have?

On a scale from one to ten, I would rate Ubiquiti Wireless at ten. I strongly recommend it to others.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Very flexible and easy to use
Pros and Cons
  • "Easy to use and flexible."
  • "Could be more secure and the controller more user-friendly."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is for office networking. We are customers of Ubiquiti and I'm the IT and software manager.

What is most valuable?

This product is easy to use and it's very flexible.

What needs improvement?

It would help if the product were more secure and the controller was more user-friendly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for a couple of years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a very stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This is a scalable product.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward, I did it myself. We have around 40 users in the company. We have three or four developers who were involved in deployment and still now in the maintenance of the solution.

What other advice do I have?

I'm going to continue using this solution and I recommend it.

I rate this product an eight out of 10.

Is stable, scalable, flexible, and easy to install
Pros and Cons
  • "Ubiquiti Wireless is easy to use, it's stable and flexible, and the performance is great. It is scalable as well."
  • "The cost is on the higher side and could be lower."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case is to provide wireless access.

What is most valuable?

Ubiquiti Wireless is easy to use, it's stable and flexible, and the performance is great. It is scalable as well.

What needs improvement?

The cost could be lower.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for, maybe, two or three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Ubiquiti Wireless is stable, and I'm quite happy with it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. We currently have 20 customers using this solution.

How was the initial setup?

Installation is quite straightforward and quick.

What about the implementation team?

I'm a managed service provider, and we deploy networks as well. I handle the network side, and the technician handles the onsite work.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There are no licensing fees for this solution, but the cost is on the higher side.

What other advice do I have?

It's not a one file device. It's a whole network. It's Wi-Fi, wired, a security gateway, etc. It has all of these different components to it and is not just Wi-Fi. However, the price is on the higher side, but you're getting better equipment for it. So, I would rate Ubiquiti Wireless at nine on a scale from one to ten.
