Interestingly, “Hyperautomation” is listed in the top strategic technology trends for 2022.
“Increased focuses on growth, digitalization and operational excellence have highlighted a need for better, more widespread automation. Hyperautomation is a business-driven approach to identify, vet and automate as many business and IT processes as possible. It requires the orchestrated use of multiple technologies tools and platforms, including RPA, low-code platforms, and process mining tools."

2021 already has been a great year for RPA adoption.
Many mid-markets have started to try RPA and they will move towards pilot or implement.
2022 will be a great year for Intelligent Automation as a whole with more enterprise adopting and scaling their automation program. With more new platform vendors with flexible licensing models I am confident the space is getting better and matured.
The skill gap will be a good problem to have. Mid-markets delaying automation decisions could also be a challenge to overcome if their priority is not in digital transformation.
In my opinion RPA cannot carry the weight of Digital Transformation by itself. AI and ML has to be part of it and it should rather be called Intelligent Automation or Hyperautomation rather than RPA
