Metadata-driven lineage has transformed our data governance and delivers flexible integration
While Ab Initio Co>Operating System has positive attributes, I find that certain features can sometimes be difficult to understand. When I have too many import feeds opened, they can conflict with each other. If I'm using two separate import feeds for running my codes and they contain the same code inside, they experience conflicts, which creates difficulties. I believe this should not occur because it requires me to clear the work queue to run my import feed. I don't believe there are any missing features in Ab Initio Co>Operating System so far, but I would appreciate a better search feature. The global search is excellent, but a more in-depth search feature that allows me to search within the feeds or assets would be beneficial.

Real-time data streaming has simplified transformations and kept enterprise databases synchronized
Oracle GoldenGate is good, but I would like to improve it. There is a need for whoever installs and configures Oracle GoldenGate to set the correct parameters for the use cases we need to use. In some cases, we had performance problems related to the streaming because there was a lot of information to stream concurrently. However, you can tune Oracle GoldenGate to use more RAM on the source side or more processes. I think that sometimes what is missing is knowledge about the tool from the person responsible for configuration. At this moment, Oracle GoldenGate is a very good tool, and I do not know in which area we can improve it. Perhaps the debug part of the tool could be improved. In some cases, I use the utility for how Oracle GoldenGate generates messages about the statements that it streams because of bugs, and in some cases, it is not very user-friendly. It may be possible to improve the API or the path related to debugging, but not the tool itself. The tool itself is good. I remember that in some configurations, we had problems with the streaming of DDL, which are changes to Oracle object structures such as tables and procedures. A new feature could be to perform streaming for operational objects such as procedures, functions, packages, or grants. This would synchronize source and target for these aspects, not only for data or the main types of structures, but also for others. I remember that there was some configuration in which you performed the streaming of the entire schema, or if you performed streaming for only tables, then you were unable to stream grants and other Oracle objects. I think it is important to introduce that capability.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Ab Initio reaches the highest performance and is very flexible in processing huge amounts of data."
"Ab Initio Co>Operating System excels at providing data lineage regardless of the type of data I have."
"Co>Operating System's most valuable feature is its ability to process bulk data effectively."
"The graphical interface of Ab Initio Co>Operating System is very easy to understand and allows me to visualize the data flow effectively."
"Ab Initio Co>Operating System support is the best I have encountered."
"When we are replicating data between similar databases then it is straightforward."
"This solution is priced well, is fast, and doesn't have any impact on our production database."
"This solution is stable and we aren't facing any issues."
"What I like most about Oracle GoldenGate is that it supports cross-platform migrations. For example, Oracle GoldenGate could pump data from one type of system to another such as the data from Oracle DB to SQL Db2."
"We are using it for getting data back."
"You can use Oracle GoldenGate as a DR for your system."
"The live application feature is most valuable. The solution is stable. I rate it a seven out of ten."
"This solution has a well-known procedure for troubleshooting and tuning the performance, providing for smooth operation."

Cons

"Ab Initio Co>Operating System is a costly technology."
"Co>Operating System would be improved with more integrations for less well-known technologies."
"While Ab Initio Co>Operating System has positive attributes, I find that certain features can sometimes be difficult to understand."
"Ab Initio Co>Operating System is a very expensive product."
"An awesome improvement would be big data solutions, for example, implementing some kind of business intelligence or neural networks for artificial intelligence."
"You cannot put everything in Golden Gate for the license and large models."
"The solution's licensing price is very expensive and could be made more competitive."
"Troubleshooting issues is not always the easiest. It should be easier to troubleshoot. Their support can also be improved. They don't read your problem statement and waste a lot of time. GoldenGate for big data is actually a separate license. It is sort of a separate product, but it might fall underneath your GoldenGate category. If we're talking about big data, its interaction with big data sources is poorly documented."
"The tool's connections are disconnected at times. The tool needs to integrate other databases."
"Oracle support is very frustrating in terms of how they pass tickets back and forth and don't read your problem statement."
"Microservices Architecture is not user-friendly."
"The technical support in Egypt is not responsive."
"It's stable but you have to know how to maintain it. That's why it's not 10 out of 10 for me. There are some bugs, there are some issues here and there. All of a sudden your process is not working and you have to figure out why, and sometimes it's not so clear."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Co>Operating System's pricing is on the expensive end since it tends to be used by big enterprises."
"Oracle GoldenGate's license can be expensive compared to other solutions like Qlik Replicate or SAP Replicate."
"The price of this solution is good."
"The licensing model should be improved to be more cost-effective for the end users."
"The one feature that I think Oracle could perhaps consider is, at the moment, the Veridata option is an extra cost. Golden Gate is an expensive product. You pay a lot for the best. But not including the Veridata license to prove that everything is working correctly... The big improvement for me would be to have that license built in. That would take it to the next level. That would make it a much better product. You may want to look at buying term licenses if you've just got a single migration to do. In that situation, you might want a term license for perhaps a year to save a lot of money, rather than buying a perpetual license."
"The tool is a bit expensive."
"The price is high. Consequently, when clients or customers acquire the solution, they tend to utilize it to its maximum extent due to this factor."
"Its price can be better. It is a bit crazy, and its licensing is very difficult to understand. I would rate it one out of five in terms of pricing. There don't seem to be any additional costs."
"It is an expensive product."
