Offers comprehensive alert monitoring and a user-friendly interface but requires manual validation to provide accurate alerts
For new users, I would advise using BigPanda for its comprehensive alert monitoring and integration with ServiceNow. Its mapping capabilities and user-friendly interface make it valuable for incident analysis and prioritization. As users become more familiar with the tool, its full potential will become apparent, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness over time. It is easy for someone to learn to use BigPanda for the first time. We start with basic examples that everyone can understand, then provide verbal introductions followed by hands-on training over two weeks. We encourage making mistakes and asking questions to ensure understanding. It depends on the trainer's approach, but with proper guidance, anyone can learn effectively. Overall, I would rate BigPanda as a five out of ten. For it to be a perfect ten, it would need to consistently provide accurate alerts without requiring manual validation. This means it should effectively suppress similar incidents, eliminating the need for constant monitoring. Once it reaches this level of reliability, BigPanda would be exceptional.

Provides firmware compliance and the ability to connect to iPO
I've been involved in various upgrades. It's pretty easy to set up with vCenter. We just push out an appliance template in vCenter. We run ours on virtual servers. Deployment can be done by just one person. The number of people needed for maintenance will depend on your server inventory. If you have more than 100 servers, you will need three to five people. If you have 500 to 1,000 servers, you will need a team of 10 to 20 people.

Pros

"Alert deduplication and correlation - In an environment like the NOC where you're ingesting hundreds and thousands of alerts from various monitoring sources, it's time consuming and difficult to go through individual alerts and also difficult to spot critical issues. It's been great to have BigPanda not only deduplicate alerts but also correlate alerts that are seemingly unrelated, to create a clearer picture."
"BigPanda simplifies the process by consolidating multiple monitoring platforms into a single console where I can view all issues."
"The best of a bad lot was the error message deduping."
"One of the most valuable features of BigPanda is its user-friendly interface."
"BigPanda integrates well with other solutions, such as WatchGuard,"
"The event correlation is really good and it is able to reduce the noise. It is a good tool for anomaly detection."
"The program is very stable."
"I would definitely recommend BigPanda for its time-saving features, root cause analysis, topology overview, and visual event representation capabilities."
"We lose less time managing the machines."
"We have the dashboard up on a big screen, and you can actually see when things go wrong or if there are any faults with any of the servers. The backup is automated as well, so the appliance is quite good."
"The initial setup is easy."
"Gives us one platform to monitor and access or configure all the servers or the 3PAR, etc."
"By being able to deploy servers very quickly and rapidly, we can respond to any business requirement needed."
"The solution's technical support was great...The initial setup of HPE OneView was easy."
"It gives us a view of all our servers, which we did not have before in real-time."
"The OneView Global Dashboard is very user-friendly and it can be used for monitoring the power consumption and temperature of the data center and racks."

Cons

"The usability needs to improve, because it is a pure code environment."
"BigPanda could improve by syncing its threshold settings with Dynatrace to align with users' familiarity."
"The observability can be enriched with regards to infrastructure and the application-integrated environment. The dashboard and reports could be improved."
"We had to use a partner for the deployment."
"Analytics is an area for improvement, being able to break down the actions that are being taken by users of BigPanda, as well as the auto-magical work that is being done by BigPanda."
"BigPanda sometimes creates false incidents and workarounds, causing financial disturbances because we pay for each incident."
"The UI for this solution could be improved. It is very hard to find what you are looking for."
"Lacks sufficient dashboard features."
"The interface is a bit bland. It does its job, but it could have a better interface."
"I think HPE could make more user-friendly interfaces, exclude Java and move to an HTML5 platform, make more detailed documentation, and lower the price."
"Integration could be improved. Sometimes OneView doesn't identify physical hardware."
"We've had a few issues. We just upgraded to the 3.9.0 version. We think that now that we are on that version, hopefully a lot of those things are going to go away for us."
"HPE OneView should be able to cover more device models apart from ProLiant and Synergy."
"I have to chop it up into smaller parts, because I have an installation in Europe and it covers the whole world. That is not so good. They need to be more localized, so I am going to chop it up into smaller bits."
"We have a version 3 and a version 1.2, but the upgrade process from the 1.2 to the 3 is kind of an issue."
"The network configuration part of HPE OneView needs improvement. The solution has way too many features, and there's a need for proper configuration indicators to be put in place."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"BigPanda is cheaper than the competitors."
"The price of BigPanda is in the middle compared to other solutions."
"They were great to work with on pricing/licensing. Given we are a high-growth company, we needed a flexible site license."
"We pay $200,000 USD per year."
"I feel the product's price falls a bit on the higher side."
"Use it. It is free."
"The solution is free to use, but if you want the management aspect you require a virtual machine such as C7000 or Synergy which require licenses."
"I am happy with the price."
"HPE could lower the price."
"HPE had some other solutions, but they were actually quite expensive to buy. So, when OneView came along, it was kind of reasonable in terms of price for licenses, etc."
"When it comes to the government, money is never an issue, so it was excellent in terms of the HPE OneView licensing cost. Hitachi was cheaper, but I'd rate HPE OneView cost-wise as eight out of ten."
"Synergy does not require iLO licenses but servers and enclosures must be purchased."
