Monitors pipelines with real-time alerts and good documentation
It isn't very easy. It's not easy for everyone. It would be much easier if there could be a simpler version, like a data number version or an SQL version. It's hard to debug if you don't know the syntax. Also, I saw the Slack alerts feature, which is pretty cool, but I cannot customize my messages on the Slack alerts. It would be great if it were possible to tag people in the alerts. At DoorDash, we have hundreds of pipelines, and if something fails, I want to tag specific people so they can start working on the issue immediately.

Alerting improves incident response across teams and enables faster awareness before customer impact
Splunk Observability Cloud could be improved in terms of integrations with more technical add-ons, such as Zoom. Although they have one with Zoom, it's not available in the cloud, so having that feature would be beneficial. Essentially, Splunk should continue expanding to create easier ways to ingest logs from different products. The out-of-the-box customizable dashboards in Splunk Observability Cloud are very effective in showcasing IT performance to business leaders. However, there are aspects that could be improved, such as linking dashboards to one another. While IT leaders may not drill down, it's crucial to create levels of dashboards for technical users to find root causes, making it effective for stakeholders.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The alerting features are good"
"I have seen a return on investment with Splunk Observability Cloud, with current metrics showing over 75% efficiency, and it has really helped our workflow, saved time, reduced costs, and also saved employees' time."
"It's beneficial for monitoring performance and infrastructure, especially when deploying applications with multiple versions with Git."
"I have definitely seen a return on investment with Splunk Observability Cloud, particularly through how fast it has grown and how comfortable other teams are in relying on its outputs for monitoring and observability."
"Splunk Observability Cloud is effective for detecting anomalies and preventing system outages."
"The most valuable thing that we have seen within our group is the ability to ingest all this raw data and have it organized in a certain way so that different groups can get effective alerting from this massive amount of raw data that is out there."
"After moving to Splunk Observability Cloud, it is almost zero downtime."
"The features of Splunk Observability Cloud that I prefer the most are its all-encompassing licensing model, which is comparatively better than others in the market."
"The Add data feature lets you gather any type of log and easily analyze it."

Cons

"It's not easy for everyone."
"Splunk Observability Cloud has not yet completely improved our operational performance for our company's resilience as we are just starting out, however, it will help us ultimately to reduce incident time."
"Splunk Observability Cloud could be improved in terms of integrations with more technical add-ons, such as Zoom."
"They do not have all the features that I expect right now."
"The UI enhancements could be a way to improve the solution in the future."
"They need more EDR functionalities."
"The UI of Splunk Observability Cloud is one of the major issues; it's old and has been there for more than 10 years, acquired by other applications from other companies. It's time to reinvent how the UI is going to work with the AI modules and integrations, making it softer and cleaner."
"There is a lot of room for improvement with the automation."
"We never had any issues when it comes to the type of use cases we are using it for. We did not need more advancement on it, but I know that, in general, everything can be updated. There are tiny little tweaks that can be made regardless of whether it looks better or has a different flow to it than it does right now, but it works pretty well for what we use it for."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The solution's pricing is costly."
"Licensing cost is the biggest argument I get from those divesting from Splunk. There are those within our organization who say we are going to go to other tools since Splunk is too expensive."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"Splunk APM is a very cost-efficient solution."
"Splunk offers a 14-day free trial and after that, we have to pay but the cost is reasonable."
"The price of Splunk APM is less than some of its competitors."
"The pricing is based on several factors, including the scale of deployment."
"I am not in that circle, but we are currently licensing based on our queries. That is working out for us. Previously, it was by volume of data, and now, we can store as much data as we want."
