Supports seamless authentication for users across multiple organizations and personal portals
The features I use in Cisco Duo include Duo Pushes to confirm my identity to the device, and eventually as MFA security was increased, I actually had to use exchange passcodes. Sometimes, I have to go into the site and get into Cisco Duo to retrieve the passcode, and many of them have been two-factor, where the sites send a passcode that I have to enter into Cisco Duo. It has been more of the latter. I have not seen issues with lagging or crashing on Cisco Duo's end; it was usually on the client end, often because someone set up a bad upgrade or there were connection issues with the Cisco Duo cloud through the administrative site.

Easy to use, reliable, and offers a straightforward setup
We are customers and end-users. We've dealt with the solution for a long time. We've seen how they developed as a startup, and how they've matured over time. They're actually quite advanced and they are sometimes cutting edge compared to other competitors. I'd recommend the solution. They do things very differently. They're very advanced and they're standards-based. They basically have got a very good vision in terms of how they do strong authentication. Other companies are actually following suit and following what they've done to support standards. They're quite advanced and simple to use, with a good support model. They have the edge compared to other solution providers. In general, I would rate the solution at an eight out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I lead an IT organization that has a significant amount of technical debt, and we're not in a zero-trust architecture yet. I'm pushing in that direction. Duo helps me considerably with my identity in an environment where I don't have zero trust. It's helping me bridge the gap until I can build a zero trust architecture."
"The most valuable feature of Cisco Duo for us is the multi-factor authentication."
"It's easy to use for the security part, and it helps to improve our security posture."
"We were considering purchasing other products, like AMP for Endpoints, and it was not properly integrated with the firewall function. It might be better now with SecureX."
"We get fewer threats to remediate due to the two-factor authentication, which does not allow as many threats through."
"The ability for users to authenticate via phone, from any random phone number, has been very helpful for managing a distributed workforce. Using it across a distributed network for securing access to our applications is big for us."
"I can recommend Cisco Duo because it is very easy to accept and understand."
"The Verified Duo Push feature is valuable. It gives an extra level of security beyond just the regular push."
"The technical support is quite good."

Cons

"While two-factor authentication with mobile devices provides a high level of security, it's still not foolproof, as someone could potentially steal your phone. It would be beneficial to have information about the authentication location."
"Cisco Duo can be improved by exploring a way to make it a more seamless integration and by deploying an in-house server."
"Cisco Duo is stable, but occasionally there are emails about incidents that affect some services temporarily."
"Duo Security should better organize its tile feature to organize applications better."
"We have users who move throughout the world, and their levels of connectivity change. It can be a challenge, if someone is in Bahrain, to authenticate via Duo."
"One area that might be improved is that setting up SMS texting is not as easy as using the app, even though it does support it."
"Often, people do not receive expiration messages, and sometimes, for security reasons, accounts get disabled without notifying the end user, so they mistakenly think something has gone wrong when it really just needs to be re-enabled on the external system."
"Reducing or eliminating the "telephony credits" system used by Duo would be great."
"There's nothing wrong with the solution that we can see. However, maybe they could improve slightly by incorporating decentralized identity blockchain models into their solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Duo Security is free."
"The licensing is very good because it does not cost a lot of money. It's affordable for all-sized customers, including enterprises. There is an additional cost for premium support."
"Overall, the pricing is fair. Customers can wrap it into their Enterprise Agreement, making it easier for them to solve their issues."
"I believe the licensing model is excellent as it offers flexibility to our customers, allowing them to adopt a crawl, walk, or run approach."
"The product’s pricing is reasonable."
"Their pricing model is a little bit weird. Currently, there is no price advantage in signing up for yearly contracts. There are no additional costs to the standard licensing costs."
"It's a bit confusing because we're on a three-year plan with a certain number of licenses, and we've gone over that number. They told us that when we renew, they will add all these licenses. We've expanded quickly, so everyone's kind of scared because no one knows what the bill is with the long pricing cycle."
"It's very simple. Its price is fair. We use the hardware tokens as well. You get what you pay for. In terms of licensing, Cisco has very complicated products, but Duo Security was surprisingly easy."
