We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Commvault has a unique administration platform with more features than its competitors.""The Command Center is provided from the web interface. You can back up the data for everybody, but also you can give everybody the ability to view and restore their data. For example, if a laptop, machine, or environment is owned by X, then X can look in and see the environment and data that he has backed up. He can see everything that he owns and can manage the environment as he wishes. It gives him an excellent view of his environment and infrastructure. Also, if you are a service provider, you can back up data for multiple companies and give everyone an interface for their environment to manage, backup, and restore data. Commvault has done excellent work in this area.""The most valuable feature is the ability it gives me to automate backups well and consistently, and to follow up on them as well. It also provides consistent recovery processes. Whenever we have needed to do a restore, it has worked quickly and efficiently.""The granularity of the Office 365 Backup & Recovery feature is very good. We've used all of it, recovering data from each of the four systems that we back up with it, and it works very well.""The VM backups and the recovery from cloud infrastructure are valuable.""The data protection itself is very good compared to other products.""A very stable and scalable platform (you can backup/restore/protect a couple of MBs or hundred of TBs as well from the same console/platform).""It has significantly reduced the amount of manual work required to manage our backup operations. We're going from an on-prem to a non-on-prem, we're all doing nonsolutions. So we really can't compare it against anything else."

"The most valuable feature of Google Vault is its reliability.""Search feature is valuable for our customers.""It is a very stable solution...It is a very scalable solution.""Google Vault is a solution we can use for the data export of end-users.""My impression is that the initial setup process is not that difficult.""The most valuable features are automatic document and email retention.""You can retrieve any type of data; for example, if a user accidentally deletes data, as an admin with access to Google Vault, you can easily restore the deleted data.""Data retention is very valuable to us."

Cons
"Sometimes, we have a performance issue with the backup speed. So, that has to be rectified and improved.""The reporting could be improved because the reports we get from our partner aren't sufficient. It isn't very detailed. I'm not sure if it's an issue with our partner or Metallic. They do a full backup on Monday and incremental backups throughout the week. However, we don't get detailed reports about the size of the incremental backups. The report just tells us whether a backup was successful.""One issue we face is the complexity of the console. That could be improved on. It takes users time to get familiar with Commvault. On average, it takes our customers between one and three months to learn it. The console and the way you configure Commvault have very advanced settings. It takes time to understand how it works.""I would like them to keep working on the new web interface to migrate out of the old interface because the old interface is a bit complex. It was driving customers away because of the complexity. If they migrate everything (100 percent of the features), this would make the product be perfect.""The product could be more convenient in terms of working with different solutions and having more integration between the different products in the market.""You need quite a lot of human resources to maintain a Commvault environment, to keep it operational. Also, it would be nice to if there were an easier way set up some Commvault components.""The Java interface is not great. The Command Center interface is far better and it looks nicer, but it doesn't have all the powerful features available in the CommServe/Java console. The place to improve the product is on the management interface level.""The initial setup was complex."

"Although it does a good job of searching through data and exporting it, I feel that Google Vault should have more export options available to the user. As a reseller, our customers demand a lot from their Google products, and exporting is one area where there's a lot of improvement needed.""Google Vault needs to improve its data export timing because sometimes, it takes a very long time to export the data.""My personal opinion is that Google Vault could improve if they could have a similar version to Microsoft 365 where you can have an eDiscovery manager account. With this, you can separate a regular person from an organization and just transfer the specific files.""Google Vault lacks speed.""The price of the solution could improve and the search could be easier.""eDiscovery could be improved with additional information and an easier way to retain it.""One thing I've noticed is that it splits the data files into multiple parts, like the PFT files. For example, when there is a large data size of any account, the backup process splits it into many files. This can be confusing and not very efficient when trying to manage the backups.""Searching could be improved. There's a lot of limitations when searching with Google Vault."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "If budget allows using the per socket license and not the agent based with per GB counter for Dedup is the way to go."
  • "There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX."
  • "New licensing is easy and affordable."
  • "Licensing could be better explained. Sometimes, it's unclear what features are available in different licensing models."
  • "Compared to other competitors and vendors the pricing is fair."
  • "In my experience, compared to solutions like Veritas and Veeam, while they do have their technical pluses and minuses, Commvault can save you on average forty percent initially, and then twenty to twenty-five percent annually."
  • "The price could perhaps be lower as well."
  • "Our cost is around $20,000 per month. The previous year, it was around $30,000 per month. It now costs less because Commvault changed the licensing type for providers."

  • "Google Vault comes as part of a package deal for us."
  • "Last year, the price was randomly increased and our customers were really facing a challenge around this. Google launched new pricing under different plans, where formerly there were only three plans, and now there are four, each with their own separate usage allowances. I think it's good, though. The basic plan is now the Business Starter plan, and many customers find this plan very convenient and minimal in price. Overall, the pricing for all the plans is good."
  • "The solution is expensive."
  • "The pricing is fairly cheap."
  • "If you have Google Enterprise, then Google Vault is free to use."
  • "Google Vault is a cheaply priced product. Monthly payments are to be made towards the licensing costs attached to the solution. There are no extra costs apart from the licensing costs attached to the solution."
