Have supported critical environments despite room for improvement in legacy backup options
It is very efficient in cyber resilience. Deduplication, automation, and everything is very efficient. It is multi-cloud enabled and has broad protections. The software delivers flexible and efficient backup and recovery options through its cyber resiliency features. Dell PowerProtect Manager provides insights in managing backup processes. Its encryption mechanisms are very efficient, helping to secure sensitive data. Its integration with Dell EMC Data Domain is very good. It is easy to integrate with Data Domain. Multi-cloud options are enabled, and backup in cloud options exist in Dell Avamar.

Functional application availability
There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature, and they should improve that option. They also provide the AIX agent, which is similar to the Windows and Linux agents. Since we use AIX machines, we need to take backups of those machines. However, the options available in that agent are limited. Therefore, the new version should have improvements in that area.

"Dell EMC Avamar is easy to work with and is user-friendly."
"We are saving a lot of money on costs right now since we have implemented the solution and we are using the community version."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to navigate inside a backup point to look for a specific folder or data you want to recover."
"Application awareness is very good and the speed of this solution is good."
"The solution is useful for taking backups for end-user laptops and end-user workstations where data is involved."

Cons

"The problems are, that it has issues with support. Dell has issues in that area."
"I have found the support from Dell EMC Avamar to be not as good as Veeam. The time it takes to receive support could be improved. However, once we have the support the agents are knowledgeable and helpful."
"The technical support from Dell is very poor, especially in terms of response time."
"The solution, in the future, should offer support for mobile."
"Avamar does not offer the tape-out, meaning that what a person backs up can only be kept on a disc based appliance, one which is supplied by Avamar."
"The client caches and deduplication system have a few problems."
"Dell EMC Avamar is a very complex product. It took a lot of time for the IT admins to get trained on how to use it. It is not very user-friendly, and we won't be using Avamar anymore. It needs a lot of improvement in terms of how the backups have been configured, and the reporting is too complex."
"The stability could improve, a lot of scheduled backups failed at one time."
"An area that this solution could be improved would be with the licensing."
"I would like to have more flexibility in terms of reporting details about the backup."
"There should be an option to use the solution for physical machines."
"I would like to have a more automated installation process."
"The only thing that's not as good with Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is the compression ratio and the application ratio."
"On a scale from one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate the Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows as either a zero or a ten."
"If they could let you can do replication to physical servers - a backup from physical servers and a replication to physical servers - that will be better."
"There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Dell Avamar is a moderately priced solution."
"The current pricing is generally satisfactory."
"It is expensive. The maintenance comes with it for five years. So, you buy the whole thing for five years, and your maintenance is included with it, but it's a big chunk of change upfront. We like capital expenses because we can CapEx them. We pay once every five years, so we spend a big chunk of change. You'd have to divide that out by the five years to come up with how much it costs. It's just about three-quarters of a million dollars for five years."
"The solution is expensive."
"It is expensive. Its cost is the main thing."
"The solution is costly."
"It's an expensive tool"
"This is a fairly expensive solution. It cost approximately 21,000 each year."
"The pricing is good."
"We are on an annual license to use Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. There are not any additional fees to use the solution."
"The solution is inexpensive, more so than other products."
"We pay for a three-year subscription to use Veeam Agent."
"The cost for its licenses is reasonable and as per industry standards."
"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, and pricing can be a disadvantage or a weakness for this solution."
"For the licensing of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, the customer can choose to pay monthly or yearly. It's up to the customer."
"We purchased a three-year license, and I think that the prices are ok."
