Highly stable, intuitive design, and integrates well
The scalability of Veritas Backup Exec is good. Veritas has physical hardware appliances, and hard disks, you can easily upgrade your backup appliances to have more storage if needed. It is easy to scale. We have approximately 200 people who use this solution in my organization. We are happy with the usage at this time. I recommend this solution for large-scale and enterprise companies.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The full backup is a great feature. Restoration is also good and very quick."
"The solution is scalable."
"It has the ability to support all kinds of backups. It can be used to back up databases, operating systems, virtual machines, Lotus Notes, and Exchange. It can also do remote image backups for remote sites. It integrates and works with Data Domain. It is an enterprise-class product that can be used for anything and everything across multiple sites and locations. It is also very scalable."
"NetWorker is fast and reliable."
"It's a good product that can be integrated easily with the Data domain."
"Data domain is a good feature."
"The compression ratio is very flexible for designing all the required policies for backup."
"I feel that it is a good product."
"I like that Backup Exec integrates with Microsoft Exchange. We can retrieve backups from the email boxes."
"The usability and interface of the solution are good."
"The most important feature is the variety of backup applications it supports, including ERP systems and most other programs, such as Microsoft."
"Compression is the most valuable feature."
"For us, the main two features that we appreciate in this application are backup and restore. They are the main purposes for which we are using this application."
"Veritas Backup Exec is fully compatible with different tape libraries."
"The product provides automated and faster data backup and recovery compared to other vendors."
"It is a good overall suite of products."

Cons

"Its console UI should be better. It should also have more out-of-the-box reporting functionalities. It should also have easier cloud integration. They have got cloud boost and things like that, but if you want to directly back up to the cloud, I'm not too sure whether you can do it. For example, you can easily send data from Commvault to AWS, Azure, or a container, but it seems to be not so easy in NetWorker."
"I would like to see better support for the container systems, and we would like to see more support for image backups instead of pure file backups."
"NetWorker sometimes has issues with the backup not starting and with connecting to the Oracle servers."
"The security features need backup and encryption. It would be nice if they added this feature. I would also like to be able to decrypt when restoring the security features. Hackers can sense these vulnerabilities today, and we need to have our enterprise prepared."
"The initial setup is complex."
"There should be total integration of the replication and cloud logistic back up on cloud."
"In some cases, solutions are not found in one method of call and it escalates to many levels until an experienced person can join to resolve the issue."
"It's not easy to integrate. We have to read a lot of documentation in order to configure the solution."
"In terms of improvements, I think the pricing model could be improved. They charge you by port, for every port that you have even if you're not using all of them."
"The user interface needs to be improved."
"Veritas Backup Exec should be more user-friendly. The costs should also be much lower and it should be easier to go through the disaster recovery process."
"The deduplication feature can be improved."
"They can work on the issue of the job timing out when it is unable to reach a selection item. It sometimes hangs up on the selection item, thus preventing the job from continuing."
"If you keep it for too long and the catalog gets really big, the application tends to move slowly."
"Veritas Backup Exec should improve by having a user portal that customers can use."
"The licensing packet is confusing. If Veritas could do a better job of clarifying it, that would be helpful."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is not very expensive and not very cheap."
"The pricing of this solution is very good."
"We do need to purchase a license, but sometimes, it comes as a part of the Dell Data Protection Suite (DPS). It has a capacity-based licensing."
"The pricing is okay."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing an eight out of ten."
"Dell NetWorker has two types of licensing models."
"We use a license without a time term. We just need to buy additional support when needed."
"I have a capacity-based license, but I don't know the exact cost of that license."
"Regarding expense, Backup Exec is generally suitable for small and medium businesses. However, we can customize them based on the workload."
"Its price is a bit high. There is only the standard fee. There is no additional fee."
"The pricing is good."
"I rate the price of Veritas Backup Exec a four out of five."
"It is affordable, but I hope that the price will come down a lot because of other competitors. It is a good price for the customer, but sometimes, the competition provides a much lower price. There are two ways to license it. You can license it per instance or per terabytes of data that we are mocking up. It is enough because it is not so complex. It is good when you're working with customers."
"The solution could be more cost-effective."
"If your company can afford it, go for it."
"We are satisfied with the price of this solution."
