Provides seamless backup integration and long-term reliability for enterprise data protection
The price is quite high; this product is not considered cheap. Additionally, if you use higher availability boxes, they also come at a premium price. However, they provide business continuity, which is the main reason why companies invest in this solution. Tape is slow; when restoring several virtual machines or databases amounting to several terabytes, Dell PowerProtect Data Domain represents the fastest and most reliable solution, ensuring great integration with backup software. If a customer has limited budget constraints, they may opt for cheaper external storage comprised of just a bunch of disks and utilize it for backup, as backup is not a business-critical service. However, I see great value in Dell PowerProtect Data Domain because it is fully automated, features great integration with backup software, and provides good value for money. I would rate software support as a ten, while I would give hardware support a seven. I never give any product a perfect score; I think Dell PowerProtect Data Domain deserves a nine. The only minor problems are the certificate issue and the price. These certificate issues are quite rare and mainly arise when we forget to restart and upgrade the box for several years.

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Both can be used to run a backup/replication. In the case of Veeam it's a backup software that can be used to set up your data protection policies: what to backup (data set, save set, etc.), how often to run a copy process (schedules, jobs). How long to keep the copy. The Veeam system can ask the clients (e.g. Oracle server) to run the backup, and then Veeam will manage the resulting copy. D...

Team I have used both DD with Avamar and Veeam Backup, They are both great products and perform the job very well, my short answer is that Veeam is just a little bit more intuitive and user-friendly, The DD product seemed kind of counter-intuitive at times, once you understood how to perform a function I would always document it as it just was not that user-friendly. With Veeam the GUI is very intuitive and user-friendly and a little bit easier to navigate when you need to perform tasks. They both perform great data deduplication and compression. Hope this helps.

First of all, we need to know that both tools work great together. On one hand, Dell EMC DD is known for being such an efficient deduplication machine. You can store hundreds and hundreds of GB at a cost without any problem. The main issue would be during restoring times. When in need of a complete restore, DD needs to rebuild the Data, and that costs a little bit of time. On the other hand, Veeam Backup its a tool, a program, purely software, that manages and makes backups. Veeam is capable of many different things. I'm going to talk about backups all the time to simplify things. Veeam manages backups from Virtual Machines. You can make backups of them to any repository that you wan, as of an SMB, local disk, remote server, etc. In my opinion, there's no point in comparing DD and Veeam. You can use EMC Data Domain as an SMB repository for storing your backups. Using DD as a secondary repository is a good thing, you can store hundreds of TBs and have copies of your VM from months ago. If you plan to use DD as the main repo, you should have in mind that in case that a restore it's needed, you'll have to wait sometime for the DD to complete the restore. Writing is a beast, but reading the data on it can be a pain in the butt.
