An easy-to-use solution that could improve it’s website-scouring capabilities
The solution is easy to use The solution could improve how it scours each website. We have used the solution for more than a year. The stability is very good, so I rate the solution’s stability an eight out of ten. I rate the scalability a seven out of ten. Our clients are mostly medium-sized…

Has significantly improved secure access to applications and resources in our environment
Microsoft Entra ID has helped by simplifying our management of permissions for APIs. We are not directly exposing credentials, as we use tokens instead. It has made management easier and more secure, especially in a multi-user environment. The implementation of Microsoft Entra ID significantly improved secure access to applications and resources in our environment, primarily through the widespread use of single-sign-on. Managing API permissions became much easier, as application registration often involves calling an API to utilize services without directly exposing credentials, relying instead on token-based authentication. This streamlined approach benefits end-users by simplifying access while remaining transparent to them. Ultimately, my role focuses on ensuring a smooth and user-friendly experience, even if the underlying technology remains unseen by the end-users. Our company strongly emphasizes passwordless authentication, primarily through device-bound passkeys in Microsoft Authenticator. While administrators with high-privileged accounts utilize YubiKeys and passwords for tasks like accessing Microsoft Graph, we are actively transitioning all other users towards passwordless methods such as Windows Hello biometrics. This approach streamlines authentication and enhances security. Though initial deployment in 2022 presented challenges due to hardware limitations and the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the technology has significantly improved and provides a simple and effective user experience.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is easy to use."
"Identity management with policies stands out as the most valuable feature. It offers a hands-off experience, providing full control over user access."
"Azure Active Directory is a very simple utility to use, it has very good visibility and transparency, and an easy-to-use panel."
"It's a very scalable solution."
"Privileged Identity Management (PIM), managed identities, dynamic groups, and extension and security attributes are all great features."
"This product is easy to use."
"Microsoft Entra ID has also massively improved secure access to apps or resources compared to our previous setup."
"With Azure Conditional Access you can specify network locations where you want some of the services in the organization to be available to users, and where you don't want users to have access."
"We have the ability to define the email user in the designated field."

Cons

"The solution could improve how it scours each website."
"In terms of improvement, we face issues with latency and responsiveness. Changes take some time to reflect across all users, sometimes up to twenty-four hours, which can be challenging when we need to implement drastic changes."
"My only pain point in this solution is creating group membership for devices."
"The SSO MyApps interface is very basic and needs better customization capabilities."
"Rule management and permissions need improvements. I have had discussions with product managers about these challenges and sent emails regarding them. Additionally, improvements are needed in the Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) side of things."
"We previously used Microsoft's technical support, which was excellent; they were very responsive. Now, we use a CSP, and their support is lacking, so I rate them five out of ten."
"The ability to manage and authenticate against on-premises solutions would be beneficial."
"The cost is one area that needs improvement."
"It would be an improvement if Authenticator made it easier to recover the app if you reboot your cellphone and lose access."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I rate the solution’s pricing a six or seven out of ten.."
"Azure AD comes with Office 365, so we are just paying for the Office 365 license."
"The process for buying licenses from Microsoft is somewhat messy and really hard to do. We have to talk to someone because it's hard to find out how many licenses we need. If I'm applying for 2,000 users, how many Windows licenses do we need? They could also charge less for support."
"Microsoft has a free version of Azure AD. So, if you don't do a lot of advanced features, then you can use the free version, which is no cost at all because it is underpinning Office 365. Because Microsoft gives it to you as a SaaS, so there are no infrastructure costs whatsoever that you need to incur. If you use the free version, then it is free. If you use the advanced features (that we use), it is a license fee per user."
"It is bundled with other services and the pricing is quite reasonable."
"I am not involved in the pricing or licensing, so I can't speak to that."
"Its price is per user. It is also based on the type of user that you're synchronizing up there."
"Entra ID is not too bad, but Microsoft licensing generally is insane. Most customers normally buy a bundle license with Microsoft 365, E3, or E5. Out of our 2,000 customers, for 99.9% of our customers, the Entra ID license that they are getting through the part of that would be sufficient. There are some more advanced ones that give you a bit more functionality, but we probably have not had a customer for that. We do not even internally use that ourselves. When you buy the Entra ID license on its own, it is probably three or four pounds. You just get it included in the license."
"Licensing is easy."
