Systems monitoring enhanced by firewall and intrusion detection features
My primary use case for Fortinet FortiSIEM is systems monitoring and alerting. I use it for standard functions like log monitoring, incident detection, and notification.  My customers are mostly medium-sized enterprises ranging from engineering companies, mining companies, independent schools, and…

Provides almost all the SIEM features offered by the leaders at a low cost
Gurucul's data enrichment could be improved. As a security professional, I want to consolidate all these log sources and data to the user, entity, or resource. More advancements are required, especially in enriching security data or attack response. I would like to see more improvements there. The documentation could also be better. Every user and resource has a timeline that lists all the events so we can analyze that particular system and what is happening. We would like to have an option where we can only list the confirmed security threat-related activities for a particular user rather than all activities. This way, we can see what kind of risk is reported for this user and be able to monitor them better.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The interface is very easy to use. The connector in the core has FortiSIEM support from the vendor."
"The most valuable features of the solution is its integration with other technologies, especially its ability to collect logs from Cisco and Aruba devices along with Fortinet products."
"FortiSIEM is a great tool for making security processes transparent."
"One of the most valuable features is that we can combine SOC and NOC operations in the same tool. We can provide NOC and SOC services in the same tool for two separate teams. There are plenty of third-party solutions that integrate with FortiSIEM. All these solutions already have a ready integration, and we have the possibility to create a custom connector for these solutions. Its reports are also very good."
"Technical support is helpful."
"The Threat Hunting feature provides complete traffic analysis."
"It's easy to manage. There's a web interface and a command line, depending on what the user is comfortable with. There's a large knowledge base available, and the support is timely."
"The primary valuable feature is that it has replaced a whole lot of other products with one platform."
"I like the amount of customization we can do with Gurucul. We can customize each solution and evaluate it. We can investigate the alerts that it creates and fine-tune them to ensure that whatever is reported has some risk."
"Gurucul Next Gen SIEM stands out for its user-friendliness, making it accessible to business users."
"The customization of reporting rules, reporting configuration, and alerting configuration are good."

Cons

"We need to see incident reports about the event log, without events from the administrator or through human interaction."
"Not very good on non-API features, lacks that functionality."
"If there is a configuration on the wrong side of the network or there are changes that result in harm to our IT infrastructure, the solution should immediately fix it."
"The graphs on the user interface could be improved as we often experience glitches."
"FortiSIEM could be better integrated with other vendors."
"It would be good if the solution offered even more configuration options, especially in relation to the VPN so that it continues to be a very flexible option."
"The dashboard needs to improve."
"It lacks a "wizard" that shows a particular user's activity or particular circumstance. I think the interface is intimidating because there's so much information there."
"The user interface could be made simpler."
"Gurucul's data enrichment could be improved. As a security professional, I want to consolidate all these log sources and data to the user, entity, or resource. More advancements are required, especially in enriching security data or attack response. I would like to see more improvements there."
"I would like Gurucul to identify the use cases that have already been reviewed by someone when detection occurs."
