Manageable and comprehensive and integrates robust backup features for core banking
It's adequate for my core banking, however, I am looking for another solution for all systems. It is not compatible with other operating systems like Windows or Linux, and lacks a consolidated dashboard from Browser Spectrum. This is why I am searching for another solution. The product also lacks any centralized graphical user interface (GUI), such as Jarek Pod, and I am limited to using a console-based text user interface, which my local partner handles completely.

Our clients tell us they appreciate the user-friendly interface and the space savings they realize from compression
Some of Nakivo's backup features need improvement. For example, I would like some more options for job scheduling. We can only schedule incremental and full backup, but there are no differential backup features in the same job. I can only schedule one incremental and one full backup in a week. I schedule three jobs for each repository, which is the simplest way to plan your jobs. It's possible to consolidate three jobs into one, but when you want to explain the backup registration schema to someone, they can't understand what they don't see. When you schedule some jobs, you should be able to see a list of the jobs contained within each. You have to open up the editor to see what is inside. You must click through and edit stuff. Each time, it asks you to save or discard changes. It's very annoying. You only see the name of the scheduled job, and you need to edit it to see what's it's inside.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We do not lose data. That is why we are using this product and have a backup in place."
"Once setup, you do not need to touch it again. You just need to do a formal check on possibly batch updates."
"Regarding stability, it's been rock solid."
"With data deduplication and compression, we are reducing our overall storage footprint for our disk histories. Therefore, we are reducing the actual cost of the disk for our data protection and data backups."
"Data archiving is easier and less time-consuming."
"It scales well for the amount of clients that we use with it."
"You can do restores very quickly. You can mount a drive and restore it right from the drive."
"Good user interface."
"Most valuable for DimenXional Cloud is the API provided by Nakivo which allows us to implement the software in all types of solutions."
"The main advantage from our perspective is the ability to plug this solution into an existing infrastructure on a cheap device and point the backup at the server targets and configure the backup options in a simple menu; linking to a cheap cloud resource for a simple solution for off-site storage."
"Nakivo makes our backs-ups more reliable and easy to recover in case of full damage or partial retrieval of files - all at a convenient cost."
"The backup for physical machines and replication for the virtual environment are the most valuable aspects."
"It can be quickly configured via web pages."
"The product is very scalable, robust, has an easy setup with a short-duration deployment and good technical support."
"Every new version has got some tweaks and improvements in stability and speed."
"The price is much lower than competitors that do the same function."

Cons

"Most customers still struggle with the reporting piece, especially generating reports. I think it needs some improvements in this area."
"It needs better connectivity with other non-IBM application hardware and non-IBM platforms."
"We have had some problems about using storage agents on the X6 environment. It is not quite stable, but it is also not supported in a virtualized environment."
"I would like a little more ease with the virtual platforms, because it is a huge thing that is coming up."
"The solution should have better integration with VMware and with IBM Spectrum Protect Plus."
"IBM Spectrum Protect could be improved by making the installation easier. Once it's implemented, it's okay. IBM started lagging behind when things started moving to storage and cloud-based solutions. Even though they've recently released updates that give cloud-based protection, personally, I still believe they are not up to par with the likes of Rubrik. The entire product is a little bit clumsy because they have co-joined two different products, so it's complex. Even from a sales/explaining to people what it does point of view, it's complex. Whereas, if you take more current products, it's a single box solution. You reel it in, you fire it up, you do a couple of points and clicks, and off you go, whereas the IBM system is seriously complex. There's a lot of training involved and it's a massively difficult product to sell at this point in time."
"Anytime you are not very current and call in with an issue, it is hard to get it resolved. It will depend on how far back you go though."
"I think Spectrum Protect's interface is not so user-friendly, but the interface is not so friendly. Some of the functions are too complicated. I prefer a simpler solution."
"It would be good to have some Oracle database backup capability from the Linux OS in the next release."
"They need to add a failover feature to the Essential Pro license in case the environment is a simple virtual environment and the client does not need to upgrade."
"We would like to back up File Shares to Amazon S3/Wasabi."
"Using an independent bootable media to restore full physical machines would enable physical machines that may be serving as Nakivo Director or Transport machines to be reliably restored to service without undue delay, ensuring that an enterprise's local environment remains intact."
"NAKIVO should broaden its horizons in terms of compatibility and integration with other tools."
"UI could use some upgrades. The UI is basic, but functional."
"We are satisfied with Nakivo, but if anything could be improved, I think it would be more real-time as opposed to email support availability."
"The only thing I could say is maybe some more options for job scheduling are needed."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Technical support is pretty good. It is doing fine, but you pay for it."
"We are paying for support and maintenance on a monthly basis."
"Spectrum Protect is not a cheap option."
"It is very scalable, but the downside is that it costs money."
"Customers need to pay for licensing in order to use IBM Spectrum Protect. The customers that have been using it for a long time are okay and happy with it. From a cost point of view, it's better for them to renew their licenses than to go through the difficult process of changing a backup product in their environment, and migrate from one product to another."
"That's no longer my department, but I have some past experience with licensing. It is not cheap. I would rate it a three out of five in terms of licensing. In terms of additional costs, there is management overhead. It is a complex solution and a lot of work goes into managing clients. It has gotten better over the years, but compared to its competitor, it is still heavy on management overhead."
"It can be perceived as expensive since it is designed for enterprise use."
"When compared to the cost of other enterprise products, it seems to be in the same range. However, compared to the cost of non-enterprise products, it is really high."
"It has a very good price in the market."
"I think the price is competitive. However, for some projects, it can be a bit much for price-sensitive small businesses."
"The price could be lower."
"It's really cheap, and our company saves a significant amount of money on IT backup solutions per year."
"The solution's pricing is adequate for its features and quality."
"The licensing currently allows for host-based licensing, which is advantageous if you have a lot of data on a few hosts."
"The prices are high."
"Pricing is easy to understand and very affordable."
