Keeping servers updated while encountering documentation issues and time zone delays in support
In terms of improvement, I would recommend better documentation. During the time I used it, there were issues with up-to-date patching, and the documentation around those specific errors was quite confusing. Sometimes I had to uninstall, reinstall, or engage technical support, which took a lot of time. It would be helpful if the documentation could easily help us fix bugs on our own.

Reliability and adaptability enable efficient application deployment and security management
The best features Quest KACE Systems Management Appliance (SMA) offers include the scripting function, which stands out to me because I can find specific needs and deploy the applications based on those needs. There was a time when scripting really saved me time by allowing me to find specific registry entries and modify them to patch security vulnerabilities. Scripting has saved us hundreds of hours over the years when patching these vulnerabilities compared to how we did it before. I really enjoy the security features that are enabled to deploy Microsoft and other vendor patches, which stand out to me as key functionalities.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is very easy to use, as well as extremely efficient and accurate."
"The solution is a good product and I have heard that the interface is more friendly than that of Windows."
"I have found the interface and ease of use valuable features. Additionally, it is very easy to patch VMs and other systems, such a Linux. We are able to do patches even without the internet manually."
"The technical support from Ivanti is good."
"The most valuable features are device management and support for upgrading applications."
"We use the solution for security patching of Windows devices."
"I like the product's Peer to Peer patching feature."
"We can set a maintenance window and push the patch."
"The information available via KACE is up to date, critical to our normal operations, and has become the go-to tool of our IT teams for extended support."
"The scripting is a very valuable feature, as it saves us time on pushing certain things out to the users, such as software and patches."
"This product made the job easy to do without having to go put hands on the machines."
"Pretty much all of the features are valuable. The inventory is very helpful to be able to keep track of our devices. The deployments make it easy to deploy new software packages or upgrade packages. The help desk is also a great tool for tracking problems and problem tickets."
"The ability to push an image to a machine, wake that image up, and just blast a new image to a computer without even having to touch it, and then push the software to that machine. This just made things so much more convenient for us and so much more efficient."
"KACE’s knowledge-based articles are very good."
"The single pane of glass for managing devices is helpful because it allows me to perform updates and control things without having to disturb the doctors or nurses."
"My company had bought some new machines. We used the tool to do some basic settings to ship every machine the same way and undertake the Windows deployment. We did the scripted installation. The tool helped us deploy custom software for specific departments. We also did Windows updates with the product."

Cons

"I would like to have better support for the application."
"Customers sometimes ask about non-existent features, and we pass these requests on to Ivanti."
"I tried to be a partner of Ivanti and, from this vantage point, the quotes are, perhaps, a bit high."
"In terms of improvement, I would recommend better documentation. During the time I used it, there were issues with up-to-date patching, and the documentation around those specific errors was quite confusing."
"There are times when there is an update that causes some issues. These issues should be sorted out before the release."
"Ivanti Neurons Patch for Intune needs to improve stability. We had issues with patching."
"The reports have to show the compliance level of the patching, which Ivanti does not provide."
"It's a difficult configuration because you need to install many servers in a location, and you have to install the primary server in the main location."
"What could be improved is the possibility to use replicas in a secure way outside our network in order to maintain the machines that never connect to our corporate network."
"The initial setup was complex. It is a Linux-based virtual server, where the customer cannot get into the back-end, so you can only follow their prompts. Then, there are specific things that have to be done in their implementation and upgrade phases that have to be done in a certain order or steps. If you don't get those steps right, the system doesn't work. I think that either simplifying that process or providing really good step-by-step documentation would be helpful."
"Imaging becomes a problem when you start to try to go beyond doing more than thirty or forty machines at a time. We initially tried to do that virtually and it just, it wouldn't work."
"Paying for the product should come with full and extended training anytime it is needed."
"I would sure like them to be able to copy and paste out of OneNote. That drives me nuts. You can't copy from OneNote into KACE."
"The only hiccups we had were some power issues, where the box was a little under-powered early on."
"The GUI needs some work. I love all that it can do, however, it can be just be so cluttered at times."
"They could make the booting solution easier for different things, e.g., easier to insert drivers. They could make it easier to create a new image and put it onto the server. Those would be some nice solutions. They could make it so that somebody who has no knowledge at all can do it. That would be really nice. Because every time, until I get it memorized, I still need to go back to the training, the manual, or Google it to figure it out again. If they would make it a lot easier, to where a nine-year-old could do it, that would be really cool. If they made it easier, I could have more people managing the images on the server, instead of just one or two people."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"While the price is a bit high, it may be equitable with the features one gets with the product, such as that involving the interface."
"The solution is expensive compared to other products."
"The license can get expensive if you have a lot of nodes."
"For the one that works with SCCM, it is relatively inexpensive at $8 USD per node, yearly. The standalone product has two versions; the one that patches servers is about $45 USD annually and the version that patches workstations is about half that price at $22 USD."
"The solution is affordable."
"The cost of KACE has been relatively low compared to other systems. Even if those systems have the same cost, they do not do as much of the third-party patching that KACE natively does."
"We are also saving on the licensing fee, compared to other endpoint management solutions."
"We buy consulting fees from Software Factory, then we pay extra for it."
"The pricing is great. It's billed annually and it's very reasonable."
"Licensing is done on a per device basis, so it's dependent on how many agents you've got installed."
"There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"The pricing and licensing are absolutely fair."
"n terms of pricing and licensing, my advice is that you need to assess what you need and then look at what they offer. It's easy to get caught up in the things that you want, but don't really need."
