Worth the money, fantastic communication, and fast service with an average response time of about four minutes on an alert
This is my third SOC. I have never had anybody react as well. So, it's hard for me to provide something that they could do better because I'm really happy with them. I just signed another three-year contract with them. I don't find any downside to them, but if I have to put one, it would be consistent manpower or staffing. The only area where the solution can be improved is going to be with people. As they grow, they are struggling with the same thing that every other company is, which is getting talent and getting that talent to stay, but they've just revised their tiering system to go from a flat analyst and manager to a three-tier solution where it goes through two or three before it gets elevated. That seems to have worked out well, so if one level misses it, the next one picks it up, and it works out fine. Consistent staffing is the only challenge they have because when you're hiring level-one analysts, you go through them pretty quickly. You'll probably hire them at 50K or 55K, and after they do it for a year, they find out they can make 85K somewhere else, and they bounce. So, their turnover is a little high, but that's it.

It gives us fantastic information about the security of our environment
The dashboard can seem overwhelming at times. It's fairly simple for the end user, and we don't need to do much to make it work, but the dashboard makes it seem a little more complicated than it actually is. There could also be more guidance on how to set up playbooks.

Good for endpoint detection and response, network detection, email security, and mobile threat detection
From a purely technological standpoint, Trend Micro is doing very well. They're recognized as a market leader according to Gartner ratings, and here in Oman, they hold a dominant market share of 80-85%. However, there's feedback about two areas for improvement: support mechanisms and pricing. For a market leader with high Gartner ratings, their pricing seems very expensive compared to similar products from Symantec and Trusted Security Solutions. This can push some customers towards those options. As a result, Trend Micro XDR is primarily adopted by large companies with significant budgets and a deep understanding of the technology. They can implement Trend Micro across their entire infrastructure, from endpoints to servers to mainframes, achieving comprehensive security. This makes Trend Micro XDR, especially attractive to oil and gas vertical industries like BFSI (banking, financial services), where financial security is paramount. However, for SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) or newer companies with budget constraints, the product can be quite costly. That's my overall feedback.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Binary Defense's most valuable feature is the 24/7 monitoring and threat hunting. Their team checks the latest breaches and how they're done."
"Binary Defense has a human service department that provides live monitoring for our systems."
"The most valuable feature is reviewing tickets and the notes added by technicians."
"Binary Defense is comprehensive. We see most of the questionable activity. Once you see things a couple of times and are familiar with the processes, you know what those are. The level of activity is definitely favorable."
"The speed at which their services are reactive is valuable. Nowadays, when a threat hits an endpoint, you've got minutes, not hours or days. Their average response time is about four minutes on an alert. For anything that needs to be sent to us, it's about fourteen minutes, which is pretty good. They're the third SOC that I've used in fifteen years. By far, they are the quickest ones to act. When you're looking at prevention, that's a key factor."
"In the six months we have been with Binary Defense on this, they run with the ball. They take care of our problems. When we get a ticket, they do not just give us a report."
"The most valuable part of Binary Defense is its team of cybersecurity analysts. Their analysts filter out the noise and only forward the critical threats that require a response instead of false positives."
"The most valuable features are the SIEM and the ticketing function; the latter is very smooth and easy to read and understand. We don't have any issues looking at the ticketing information when we're trying to identify what's going on."
"Automatic alerts from staying current with the threat landscape have helped us stay safe."
"LMNTRIX first validates incidents before alerting us of the activity, so we're not inundated with false positives."
"LMNTRIX gives us fantastic information about the security of our environment. It tells us about possible threats and how to fix any issues."
"We have a dedicated technical representative that is very responsive."
"The fact that it's constantly hunting, looking for anomalies, and can evict without any intervention is really incredible."
"The initial setup is very straightforward. CIOs appreciate the ease of installation, server configuration, and the user-friendly dashboard."
"The most valuable feature of Trend Micro Managed XDR is that it protects all of the layers."
"I appreciate the detection and response methodology used against virus and ransomware attacks."
"Trend Micro Managed XDR has indeed enhanced our customers' threat detection capabilities. Many of our clients are utilizing it and have experienced positive outcomes. Overall, I would recommend it, especially considering the rising popularity of Trend Micro and its excellent product support."
"The tool has significantly improved threat detection and response times for my clients' organizations. The solution has performed exceptionally well, and my customers are pleased with both the performance of the system and the support they receive."

Cons

"The only area I see for improvement with Binary Defense is their service portal. It could benefit from some enhancements."
"I don't find any downside to them, but if I have to put one, it would be consistent manpower or staffing. That seems to have worked out well, so if one level misses it, the next one picks it up, and it works out fine."
"It's sometimes difficult to know when to engage Binary Defense or TrustedSec, their sister company. TrustedSec is more focused on offensive security, as opposed to the defensive security that the MDR solution provides. It would be awesome if there were a better bridge between that relationship for when we need to get more proactive services or when we need to do a penetration test."
"We found that an earlier version of the agent had high memory usage and that was a bit concerning, but we raised the concern with their support team and they immediately replied that they had noticed the same thing and had a candidate fix already available... it totally fixed the issue."
"The only area for improvement that I can think of relates to statistical analysis for SLAs. They are in the middle of moving to a new product called D3 which is going to do some backend work for them. I know they are working to improve some of the help desk statistics, such as the time the tickets open and the time they are closed."
"While my understanding is that they're working on this, I would like to see some more of the quantification or reporting."
"I would like to get more reports from Binary Defense about what they're blocking."
"It's hard to think of anything that they need to improve on, but just to point out something, I would like to see them provide advanced XDR."
"The only multifactor authentication that is available is Google Authenticator. I would love to see other multifactor applications added to this list as well as physical devices such as Yubikey."
"The next release might include a monthly newsletter."
"The portal is still a bit buggy, although it's new and still being refined."
"In the beginning, we were having issues with the LMNTRIX respond agent not playing nice with Cisco AMP."
"The dashboard can seem overwhelming at times. It's fairly simple for the end user, and we don't need to do much to make it work, but the dashboard makes it seem a little more complicated than it actually is. There could also be more guidance on how to set up playbooks."
"Trend Micro Managed XDR could improve its support documents. This would allow us to explore the solution better and provide a better presentation to our customers. Addiontaally, there could be more automation features."
"The product could benefit from some improvements in its interface and organization. Functionality-wise, it performs well, but there's room for enhancement in terms of user-friendliness. There are ample resources like documents and videos provided by most vendors to assist users, although reaching out for direct support might not always be straightforward."
"There is a need for greater integration of non-Microsoft devices."
"The main drawback is the lack of local language support in Oman."
"Being cost-effective is crucial, allowing customers with lower budgets to access the services. Offering a range of services at various price points ensures that customers can find suitable options without being compelled to explore alternative products or vendors."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is very good. They are definitely competitive and they were lower at the time that we went with them."
"Binary Defense MDR is priced competitively and may be slightly lower than CrowdStrike."
"It's valued at the right price. Even with the number of endpoints we have, we don't feel that it's a lot more than any competitor. In fact, it might be less expensive when you look at the fact that you're getting a full flex SOC out of it along with the tools."
"Binary Defense has changed its pricing model from being primarily based on the volume of data to one based on escalations and incidents they handle."
"The pricing is on target. Working with their sales team on pricing negotiations was a pleasant process. They were very respectful of the constraints we had and I feel that we're paying a fair price."
"The pricing isn't that bad, it's very competitive. I don't feel that it's over-priced and I don't feel that it's under-priced."
"It has been good. We have saved money, and we have a better product."
"After we acquired this platform, we met with a number of different vendors. Binary Defense came in with a proposal that was surprisingly affordable. In fact, we were able to recoup the cost of their services within a short period of time. This is because Binary Defense is able to provide the same level of security as a team of two or three in-house analysts but at a fraction of the cost. As a result, Binary Defense is saving us an estimated $250,000 to $300,000 per year."
"The cost is going to be a little higher than traditional endpoint protection, but you are getting the 24/7 monitoring and validation by highly skilled analysts and that makes it worth it."
"It's not the cheapest solution, but you certainly get what you paid for."
"The pricing and ease of install are great!"
"There is a subscription needed to use Trend Micro Managed XDR. We are on an annual license."
"The solution is cost-effective."
"The solution's pricing falls within a reasonable range—it's not the most expensive option out there, nor the cheapest."
"I rate the tool's pricing a six out of ten."
"Trend Micro's solutions are considerably more expensive than competitors."
