Has a single dashboard, but is expensive
We use this solution to manage our mission environment The single dashboard is a valuable feature.  The technical support needs improvement. The initial setup is straightforward. The solution is expensive. I rate the pricing an eight out of ten.  Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of…

Reporting is good, monitors well and stable product
We manage a client's network. We put all applications/devices into ManageEngine OpManager. This allows us to manage everything from a single interface. It's not just about endpoint devices; it also improves switches and servers. For example, if we have the same switches across our organization, we…

A simple monitoring tool that is scalable and stable
Nagios XI doesn't provide scripting. For example, if we have built up multiple IPX tunnels from a base location to a data center location and want to monitor or trigger an alert if the tunnel goes down, Nagios XI does not automatically send alerts notifying us that the tunnel is down. This is a feature we want, and in the past, Nagios completed scripting for us, but it didn't work out well. In addition, Nagios XI doesn't have a feature where we can push the configuration from the server to all our devices. For example, if there are 500 devices in our network and we need to write down a simple command like a show clock or want to write the configuration, we cannot execute this command on all of our devices. We have already raised this issue with Nagios, and they told us they would speak with the BU team to see if this can be applied in the next release. If they do, it will come with an additional license. Another feature we want is the IP SLA Tracking in Cisco. For example, if our ISP connection is traversing through an L2 point, which is a layer two point, we don't have IP-to-IP communication to track those interfaces. So if we need to implement something end-to-end and the interface goes down, we should get alerts for that. And if the interface goes down, there should be specific behaviour so that our traffic can switch over from the LAN or the WAN. That is not in the current Nagios deployment, but they have advised they are working on it.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We can manage the entire system across the network and troubleshoot the pain points."
"The single dashboard is a valuable feature."
"Defining thresholds and other alerting criteria is fairly simple and would not require a lot of training. This is very useful if you are managing a large environment."
"Device monitoring is a good tool of this solution."
"The application monitoring is the solution's most valuable feature."
"We have found the solution to be stable."
"It helps us a lot for monitoring our servers in one console, instead of going to individual servers."
"Some of the most valuable features are the accessibility of the solution and the fact that it is simpler than other products. For example, discovering devices in the network is very simple, making it user-friendly."
"I am satisfied with ManageEngine OpManager's monitoring features."
"This is a good general monitoring system that has all the features we require and they constantly update with new capabilities."
"Nagios is stable and it's easy to use the monitoring software, which is why we chose this product."
"Nagios is a custom API manager, and we can expose custom APIs for our integration. This is a great feature."
"Nagios XI is stable."
"It's great for monitoring IT services infrastructure."
"You want to monitor a specific metric that nobody else has? You can do it even with the most basic of scripting skills, and you can always share it with the vast community of Nagios Exchange."
"The most valuable feature is the dashboard, where I can have a single screen that provides a summary for hundreds of servers."
"The solution has a lot of plugins and scripts integrated with it."
"The most useful aspect of this solution is the ability to customize it for the client agent."

Cons

"The technical support needs improvement."
"The Wi-Fi side needs improvement."
"The two views into the system are very good but could be extended to further customization to fit the need of end users in a variety of roles."
"Needs an OVA, or more support for virtual deployments. Building a virtual instance of OpManager and OpManager Probe was a bit difficult because there was no OVA available."
"I would like to see more enhancements made to the product."
"We would like link monitoring included. At times we need to monitor those specific links closely."
"There needs to be improvements to make the solution capable of supporting more devices, and it would be good to see an option for automatic deployment."
"The licensing for this solution is not straightforward and should be improved."
"The storage level monitoring needs improvement. It needs storage level monitoring on the server itself. That feature is lacking right now."
"Some of our customers have been asking that OpManager have a feature to monitor the operating system, however, I tell them that Endpoint Central is doing that. You can buy endpoints and then OpManager, and they integrate between them, and everything is okay."
"The product could be optimized to improve the administrative user experience via the Nagios Core Configuration (NCC) GUI module."
"We often need to develop custom plugins to get Nagios to work the way we want it to work because the features we need are not always available in Nagios."
"I would like a much easier GUI so that I can delete events and logs, which will free up a lot of space."
"The way Nagios displays information isn't easy for a new user to understand. It's not intuitive enough. You need to read some tutorials or be trained to understand what it's displaying. Also, I think it needs more features to improve network visibility because there are some things you can't detect."
"Improve the documentation, examples, and best practices, therefore users can understand how to do things."
"Nagios XI can improve its GUI for users with a new look."
"Open-source software is usually not user-friendly."
"The scalability of Nagios XI is scalable. However, it is not easy to do."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is expensive."
"The solution's pricing is very low compared to other products."
"The licensing costs depend on the number of devices and accounts that are being monitored by the solution."
"The price for ManageEngine OpManager is average."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
"The product is not worth the money."
"I rate the tool's pricing an eight out of ten."
"We have a standard license for ManageEngine OpManager. We purchased the license for one year and now we are upgrading it soon."
"Pricing for ManageEngine OpManager depends on the number of nodes you onboard and whatever pricing is reflected on the ManageEngine portal which offers discounts from ten percent to fifteen percent. It purely depends on the sales volume and the negotiation. In my organization, there are about one thousand two hundred nodes which cost around $29,000 per year. There's no additional support fee or maintenance fee from ManageEngine OpManager. Pricing for the solution is highly competitive and I would rate it five out of five. ManageEngine OpManager is one of the most competitive options out there."
"The pricing is really cost efficient. The licensing is perpetual and can be renewed very easily."
"Nagios XI is open source."
"You can grow into the higher-priced scale as they learn how to utilize the features for Nagios XI."
"For the cost of the commercial product and support, and taking into account the open source characteristics of it, I believe it is difficult to a better value."
"For our country in North Africa, it's expensive and we could purchase another solution for that price. But it's a reasonable price if we're speaking in international terms."
"The licensing fees for this solution are approximately $3,000 USD per year."
"This solution is very expensive, at approximately $5,000 USD when I purchased it, which is why I haven't upgraded my version in several years."
"Licensing costs are reasonable."
