Data protection improves while users adapt to user access complexities
Recovery options are useful with Microsoft BitLocker. When we get the recovery key from Microsoft, people who we show how BitLocker works did not know the facts about BitLocker. When we tell them about recovery keys, it is very difficult for them to get to the users who have issues in their PCs and do not have the knowledge. When IT asked about the scenario, it was difficult for them. They needed something where they could go to the administration portal to unlock the PC for the user, but we tell them that when a user asks for a recovery key, it consists of 32 numbers to unlock their PC. They observed cost savings after implementing Microsoft BitLocker because they requested BitLocker with System Center. They found that it did not have a high cost, as it is a built-in feature in Windows. When they asked about other solutions, it was very expensive for large numbers in other corporates or organizations. They were very satisfied with Microsoft BitLocker with System Center Configuration Manager.

A backup solution that offers very good integration at a good price
We primarily use the solution as a backup for our entire environment.  The integration features are the most valuable. The integration is specific to each solution. It works well with SQL and Oracle databases and so on. On the exchange server, you do not have the best options for adjusting your…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is easy to implement and has AD integration."
"We use Microsoft BitLocker for our endpoints, including laptops."
"The solution works the way it's supposed to - stability and scalability are fine."
"I could advise any company to then deploy Microsoft BitLocker, first of all, because the product is free and the end user's computer performance is not affected."
"The tool is stable."
"If you want a free solution and work on Microsoft, use Windows BitLocker."
"Being able to encrypt an entire hard disk has been most valuable."
"The most valuable feature is the TPM (Trusted Platform Module), which makes the PC security stronger because somebody who is not from the team cannot access the PC without the decryption PIN."
"Technical support is top-notch."
"The integration features are the most valuable, as the integration is specific to each solution and works well with SQL and Oracle databases and so on."

Cons

"I felt it was too expensive for the service that I required."
"Microsoft BitLocker needs to be an all-inclusive solution. For example, a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) cryptoprocessor is required to use Bitlocker with your computer which keeps Bitlocker from adoption beyond Windows."
"Right now, the problem for us is, if a laptop is stolen, how they address it with the hard drive if it is already protected in BitLocker?"
"Lacks a portal that can be managed rather than just existing."
"It needs a management console."
"My experience with the billing system at Microsoft was very frustrating."
"The biggest one for us is revoking access. So, even though someone downloads something to a device, we want the ability to cloak that device or data and bring it back or make that data unusable for that person. Currently, BitLocker doesn't give us that ability. It basically encrypts it. We're seeing if identity management or IAM allows us to do that. We're kind of looking at third-party software that does that for us."
"It comes only with the Windows Ultimate and Enterprise editions, so the users who use other editions cannot use this tool."
"On the exchange server, you do not have the best options for adjusting your mailbox. This feature is not included. Also, disaster recovery backups can be improved. Some other solutions, such as HP Data Protector, have more features."
"Nonetheless, one thing they could do better on is knowledge and education about it."
"On the exchange server, you do not have the best options for adjusting your mailbox. This feature is not included."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"BitLocker is included in our license and doesn't cost us anything extra."
"The cost of this solution is bundled in with part of the subscription for the Microsoft Cloud. We have users subscribed to Enterprise E5 and it comes with E5"
"We already use Microsoft products, and Microsoft BitLocker is an add-on product that is free of cost for us."
"BitLocker is already in Windows 10 and its price has already been "paid"."
"For reasons unknown, Microsoft products seem to be getting more expensive."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is expensive and ten is cheap, I rate the solution's pricing an eight out of ten."
"The tool is cheap compared to the products offered by competitors. If one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the tool's price as one."
"It is free. It is enabled as part of the operating system. Once you have an operating system license, you're licensed for Bitlocker."
