Great URL scanning and attachment scanning, but I would like more proactive threat analysis
The two main features that prove most beneficial for us are URL scanning and attachment scanning. URL scanning involves an automatic scan of links and emails. When a user clicks on a link within an email, the system promptly checks the link's safety. If the link is deemed safe, access is granted automatically. However, if it is flagged as unsafe, we receive feedback and notification to caution us about the potentially harmful link. At this point, we are presented with the option to proceed or return. I have personally witnessed the system identify a few unsafe links, making this the primary advantage of using the solution. The second crucial aspect is the scanning of attachments. When an email containing an attachment arrives, we receive a notification of the new email, along with information that the attachment is being scanned for threats. This additional layer of security provides peace of mind for our organization. While Microsoft Defender for Office 365 offers numerous features, these two stand out as particularly impressive and valuable to us.

Optimize email security with effective sandboxing and auto Pull for quarantine
Proofpoint is used as an email security gateway for big enterprises, primarily for their on-premises servers. Many customers also use it alongside Office 365 Proofpoint offers a complete solution for email security with features like DLP, email archiving, and encryption. The most valuable…

Provides effective filtering for spam, phishing, and suspicious emails
In terms of improvement, reducing false positives would improve the system. If there were fewer false positives, it would be nearly perfect. In the next release, I would like to see improved detection for emails containing only text, especially if they seem suspicious but lack links or attachments. Currently, Trend Micro Email Security is effective with emails containing links or attachments, but those with only text can slip through unnoticed.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Defender enables us to secure all 365-related activity from a single place. It gives us visibility into everything happening in Outlook, protecting us against phishing and other email-based threats. Defender helps us detect any suspicious behaviors."
"One of the best features of the tool is its capability to aggregate insights from different workloads, basically from the Office 365 and endpoints part."
"Microsoft Defender for Office 365's most valuable features are safe attachments and safe links."
"It’s easy to handle integrations, and we don't need a lot of people in our IT team."
"It also gives the vulnerability status according to the versions you have selected. Let's say you have Google Chrome. It mentions the versions it has, and it updates. Within two hours of an update, it is reflected in the dashboard. That's really nice to have."
"The initial setup is straightforward. You just add the license, click it, and then you can set up the rules. It is quite simple."
"Microsoft Defender has a feature to protect each and every attachment. Even if it's an encrypted attachment, it will check for any potential threats."
"The deployment capability is a great feature."
"It is a very scalable solution."
"Proofpoint is the main tool for blocking spam because it denies the connection altogether."
"The spam filter for email is good."
"The most valuable feature of Proofpoint Email Protection is the blocking capabilities, it blocks a lot of potential threats."
"The most valuable feature of Proofpoint Email Protection is the central location dashboard for viewing all the related information for risk."
"Its main defense is to stop malicious emails from coming through. There is a sandbox environment where you can open malicious or suspicious emails to make sure that they're not malicious, instead of taking the risk of having your employees do it. This is definitely something that everybody needs nowadays, especially with the rise in cyber attacks."
"The solution scales quite well."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to remove bad messages that were delivered, prior to being classified as unwanted."
"It does a good job of ensuring users are not compromised via email."
"The most valuable features of this solution are the antivirus, antispam, and integration with cloud services. This is a multifunctional solution."
"It is mostly stable."
"Trend Micro Email Security has a feature for secure protection of OneDrive, Google Drive, and CloudApp security."
"The best features are that it is very convenient to configure new rules onto it and it gives very good insight on what has entered my system and what the email security solution has taken action upon."
"Trend Micro Email Security scans all email attachments because, nowadays, ransomware or malware files are sent through email attachments."
"The initial setup is not overly complex."
"Trend Micro has inter-domain security features that solutions from other vendors like Forcepoint lack."

Cons

"Configuration at the mid-level could be improved for the support team."
"They have moved features from one console to another. Things have been moved around in the interface and it takes me time to find where certain features are."
"Sometimes, phishing emails manage to pass through the filter, so the system needs to enhance its phishing email detection capabilities."
"They can improve their security in a way where a customer can know if all their attachments are safe or not to open through a report. The solution does its job perfectly, but it never reports to the customer whether those attachments have been stopped before or not."
"Microsoft Defender for Office 365 must improve the overall management style, including the GUI. It also needs to change the filters so that it is easy to whitelist and blacklist data."
"We need a separate license and we don't know how to get the license that is required."
"There is room for improvement in terms of reporting."
"Several simulation options are available within 365, and the phishing simulation could be better."
"Proofpoint Email Protection could improve the Mail Trace feature and make navigation easier."
"Phishing detection could improve further to match some of the capabilities offered by competitors."
"Proofpoint has a lot of false alarms."
"Proofpoint Email Protection is an expensive solution."
"The solution should add post-sales training."
"Integration for reporting needs to be improved, it's too complex."
"The price could be improved."
"The reporting section could be enhanced. I like some reports but if they could allow us to create custom reports with more flexibility it would enhance the reports more."
"The send box needs improvement to match other products."
"Sometimes malicious email gets past the email gateway."
"There is room for improvement in threat detection, especially for advanced attacks and business email compromise."
"Trend Micro Email Security can improve on scam detection. It could use AI in this area."
"Trend Micro Email Security could improve by advancing its artificial intelligence in email security. There are rules that have to be configured. There should be less configuring."
"In terms of improvement, reducing false positives would improve the system."
"I would like to see more integration of Trend Micro Email Security with different platforms."
"While they are good, not 100% of email is protected just yet."

"It is much more expensive than using another solution because we have had to include some options and upgrade our license."
"I know that the product is incredibly expensive."

"It's a user-base subscription."
"Microsoft Defender for Office 365 comes with Microsoft Windows. It is free with the operating system."
"The pricing is normal. Considering its popularity, it's not overpriced."

"The licensing is basically $8/user."
"It is on a yearly basis. Their floor for SMB doesn't matter. The user count is 100 users and below at $2,500 a year. Its cost is higher than other solutions. It is probably about 20% to 30% higher than what you would get with Microsoft. There are no additional costs. All costs are factored in. It can be improved pricing-wise so that it is affordable for the SMB market."

"Trend Micro Email Security is not an expensive solution."
"I rate the product price a six on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price."
