Effective threat prevention with responsive customer support
We are using Fortinet FortiGate as a firewall Fortinet FortiGate has been invaluable. It has helped save costs due to its various features, reliable performance, very good UI, low latency, and stability. The Threat Intel engine in Fortinet FortiGate is highly rated for its effectiveness in…

Affordable, easy to configure firewall with fast, responsive support
The absolute best part of Sangfor NGAF is their support. It's a 24/7 support channel, and the last time I requested their assistance I got a reply within three minutes. They helped solve the problem immediately. Sangfor also gives you a warranty for any issues or defects with their hardware. If you find any issue, they will replace the hardware within five working days. We send any hardware that is faulty to our local country partner and they will do the RMA. When it comes to deployment environments, I like that you have options. If you want a hardware firewall, then you can use their hardware. Conversely, if you want a cloud firewall, then they can provide that, too.

Gives us peace of mind with network security, application control, and web server protection
Having previously worked with the Astaro Security Gateway platform (now called Sophos UTM), I can attest that the configuration and dashboard for this older platform was easier to manage than that of both Sophos XG and XGS. If it were up to me, I would prefer to go back to the older SG dashboard. I am hoping that in future, the dashboard for Sophos XGS will be simpler and easier.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The reporting you receive out of this appliance is excellent. You will not need an external management system."
"It's a user-friendly firewall. Most of the tasks are very simple. It's simple to configure and troubleshoot this firewall."
"The product offers very good security."
"The SD-WAN is the most valuable feature."
"What I like the most is the configuration and that it's simple, and straightforward to maintain."
"I like Fortinet's cloud management. It allows me to manage all my devices in different branches for three cloud accounts. Even though I use on-prem devices, I can manage everything on the cloud."
"The notable features that I have found most valuable are that it includes the antivirus, and also IPS, and even SD-WAN."
"The multi-tenancy feature is most valuable. It integrates very well with FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer."
"In our hospital, Sangfor NGAF works well for us in terms of ensuring confidentiality and availability, which are crucial in the healthcare industry."
"So far, the performance and reliability of the product have supported our company's critical network traffic."
"It is a stable solution."
"Sangfor NGAF's standout feature is its powerful application control, enabling precise restrictions on mobile user access to approved applications."
"I think the tool has the feature to detect and kill ransomware in three seconds."
"In four steps one can configure the entire firewall."
"It offers application control features."
"While the features are not dissimilar to other brands, configuration is much more simple, which works out great for Indonesian people."
"The solution is very user-friendly, and the GUI is so good that I don't have to use the CLI. This eliminates the need for typing; clicking allows me to get to what I'm looking for."
"Sophos XGS that's a good firewall. If you use the endpoint, then you have what Sophos calls synchronized security. That will mean that if one of the endpoints is affected, it will be automatically set in isolation."
"It’s popular because it’s easy to manage, the cloud console is excellent, and it supports VPNs. It can also integrate with endpoints, though this is optional. Regarding threat intelligence, customers in Central Europe often prefer managing their threat hunting rather than using the more expensive service from Sophos. This feature is handy for large international companies with many employees. Threat intelligence requires separate licensing and is optional. Customers can either manage it themselves or purchase the additional service from Sophos, which includes further actions and is more expensive. Smaller companies often don’t have the budget for this."
"It's user-friendly and quite easy to configure. It's easy to communicate with the Sophos support team."
"The threat intelligence capabilities of the tool are good."
"The most valuable features of Sophos XGS are the ease of use and powerful interface."
"It's much faster than the previous firewall, so you can do the work faster."
"The solution offers more antimalware and antivirus feeds than others."

Cons

"The platform's compatibility with Wi-Fi equipment needs improvement."
"It needs more available central management."
"Its reporting capabilities can be improved. It should have some out-of-the-box reporting capabilities and some degree of customization. The basic reporting that it currently has is not sufficient to create more usable reports. It needs some sort of out-of-the-box reporting. They try to make customers purchase FortiAnalyzer for this kind of reporting, which is an additional cost. Other firewall vendors, such as SonicWall and Sophos, provide this sort of reporting without any additional cost."
"One of the problems I was having was with user mapping, and it is an issue for which I have escalated tickets with Fortinet support."
"In terms of what could be improved, the SD-WAN is quite difficult, because if you install the new box, 15 is okay, but if you change from an old configuration, if there is already configuration and a policy when you change to SD-WAN, you must change the whole policy that you see in the interface."
"It would be good if they had fewer updates."
"It should be more stable. There should be full integration within Fortinet products themselves as well as with other third-party products. Especially when you're not dealing with SIEM and the correlation of the security box, we want Fortinet to be able to share that information with as many other products as it can."
"The captive portal could be improved."
"Sangfor could improve by providing better real-time reporting, as the current reports don't offer the level of detail we need, especially for runtime insights."
"I believe that IAM and NGFW need to merge into a single box, instead of there being two separate box solutions."
"An area for improvement would be the number of ports defined on the box. In the next release, I would like them to develop their provisioning stage of enrolling end devices."
"There is room for improvement in dependency on certain infrastructure, like the DNS dependency on the current DNS server that the company has. It should be standalone. It should not depend on any other DNS server."
"It has an issue with the Sangfor Cloud Platform rather than the firewall. When we run a virtual machine, the window tabs display Chinese characters."
"Scalability for any network device is not very easy in terms of vertical scalability."
"An area of improvement for Sangfor NGAF could be in the field of reporting and logging."
"I would be happy if Sangfor developed a firewall designed specifically for home use, as well as for small businesses such as clinics and so on. A household version of the Sangfor firewall for your personal computer or laptop would be ideal, in my opinion."
"After version 18.5, creating a NAT rule has become more complex, requiring the creation of a separate policy and an additional component."
"When it comes to different interfaces there is some speed issue that can be improved in Sophos XGS."
"The solution could improve by using fewer hardware resources compared to other products like Palo Alto, which has better performance."
"All the security features could be better."
"Sophos pricing is very high. The last instance I purchased was for three years, around $3,700 for SDG 125."
"We need to know which feature is suited to different environments. More live sessions or time-bound training would help us understand better."
"Sophos configurations are a bit complex."
"Sophos should work on its marketing strategy as it seems to lag behind Fortinet."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price for the Fortinet FortiGate is reasonable. Secure SD-WAN is free of charge. If you have their firewall, it's free of charge. It's very tempting."
"Fortinet bundles FortiGate with other products and because of this, the price is a little expensive to some SMB enterprises."
"For medium and enterprise organizations, FortiGate is more affordable."
"Its price is affordable and lesser than Cisco. Cisco is expensive. In terms of licensing, there is only one issue. If a customer's license has expired a month ago and they do the renewal after one month, Fortinet renews the license from the start of the previous month. The activation of the product is done from the previous month, not from the date of renewal. The customers usually shout and complain that because they are paying today, the renewal should start from today. The support contract renewals or licensing should be renewed from the date of renewal, but Fortinet starts from the day it had expired. It is a loss for customers. They might have had some problems because of which they did not take the license one month before. Fortinet should work on this. Cisco doesn't do this. Cisco always starts from the day they apply for the license."
"This is not a cheap solution but it isn't expensive, either. It's a good solution for the right price."
"For the price, I'd rate it a ten because it's very cost-effective."
"Work through partners for the best pricing."
"Fortinet is the least expensive solution."
"Sangfor NGAF price is reasonable and there is an annual license. However, the maintenance cost can be a bit high."
"-"
"It is one of the cheapest tools in the market."
"I rate the product price as one on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price."
"In my opinion, the price of the tool is good in the Pakistani market. We can easily get discounts if needed."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"We purchased one year technical support and return to factory support, and we also purchased one-year technical support services. So those were additional."
"The solution has a TCO that is 32% to 50% less than Sophos, Fortinet, and SonicWall."
"The price of Sophos XGS depends on the type of license. However, the licensing cost is approximately 60 percent of the total cost."
"I live in Bolivia and the price of Sophos XGS is high. However, they have adjusted their price a little over the past while but the price could still be less expensive to be affordable."
"There is an annual licensing fee to use Sophos XGS. It is an expensive solution."
"The price of Sophos XGS is average compared to other offers from other OEMs."
"Sophos XGS costs around $75,000 for fifty units."
"A central firewall on the cloud with a cluster might be 70,000 to 80,000 euros for a three-year license."
"XGS' price could be lower, though it's moderately priced in the market."
"Once you pay for the Sophos XGS hardware there is no license required. There are additional costs if you want the support. We have purchased support for three years."
