Discontinuation of Hardware and limited firewalling capabilities
Overall, I would rate the solution a four out of ten. For UTM, I will not suggest Seqrite. But for EPS and antivirus, it is good. Cost-wise also and some features. The features wise also, it is good. And support is also good. We can get support on WhatsApp. So support-wise, it is also good.

As for areas where Sophos Cyberoam UTM can be improved, it's hard to say; I have not at the moment seen anything that I could not get a solution for, but if there's anything, I'll make sure to raise that with the Sophos team. Regarding the documentation, I find that it is still lacking, although the YouTube videos, user training, and knowledge forum are now better than they were before. Sophos Cyberoam UTM should move in the direction of AI capabilities, as the world is moving toward AI. Sophos Cyberoam UTM is not promoted enough. I see FortiGates organizing student competitions and Cisco doing CCNA classes, so Sophos should follow that route as well.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has an MDM solution."
"In terms of features and user-friendliness, the solution is good. It’s very stable. The solution is scalable. In Sophos Cyberoam UTM, the most valuable features are web and application filtering, routing functionalities, and VPN. It has helped us manage the bandwidth."
"We are using this product to protect our networks, by blocking some websites and applications such as YouTube or WhatsApp."
"You can geofence yourself if there is an incoming attack or a continuous ping from a company outside your country."
"It is very easy to use, we found it simple to deploy, and the solution has been stable over the years."
"Web Filtering and Application Filtering saves a lot of my bandwidth and improves the user's productivity."
"All these features are valuable to us because we can block malicious and unproductive application and sites to improve productivity and security in our network, audit users and machines and protect us against exploitation."
"The VPN is the most usable feature."
"The competitive advantages of Sophos Cyberoam UTM is the unified platform."

Cons

"This solution is not accurate. Sometimes, the switches got hung. So sometimes, whatever policies we have deployed were not working properly."
"Once in a while, an unwanted email will slip in. You have to set your parameters to avoid that happening, but once in a while, an email has slipped past firewall. Once you update the firmware, you notice that it doesn't happen. If an email slips in, I get a little bit worried. I do get the report, but you just don't want that situation happening in the first place."
"I have problems with the email filtering. Emails pass through without any filtering affecting them."
"Hence, it needs to be easier to configure rules using the solution."
"I am not happy with the pricing, it could be better."
"Sometimes, during part of the configuration, if you don't have a lot of technical knowledge, then you may struggle a bit to configure it, especially for the exit through the internal server."
"I have problems with the email filtering. Emails pass through without any filtering affecting them. When I get back to them and tell them this is the issue, they check everything and say it is not in their database signature and they have to update it. But you know, by that time, my user has already opened it."
"The solution's pricing could be a problem for some small businesses."
"Smaller CR15 units don’t have a hard disc or built in IView software. These units could do with that feature."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a license required for this solution and we are on a three-year contract. I am satisfied with the price."
"I am not happy with the pricing, it could be better."
"Licensing is a bit costly, mostly for features requiring subscription."
"It is not cheap."
"I consider Sophos Cyberoam UTM to be a competitively-priced product."
"There are many options for payment of the subscription license. You purchase a subscription every one, two, or three years. You can also have monthly subscriptions but we typically offer subscriptions for three years because from the financial perspective it is better to have a three-year subscription."
"Sophos Cyberoam UTM is a cost-efficient solution compared to other solutions."
"Cyberoam's pricing depends on the services you subscribe for. Most firewalls right now, especially UTM, focus on services and stagger all the services. If you want a particular service, you pay for it."
