Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Its performance in fulfilling our requirements has been satisfactory.""The solution is very user friendly. The user interface in particular is quite nice.""The CLI and GUI do a good job of putting a lot at your fingertips.""The most valuable feature of Fortinet FortiGate is URL filtering.""The wireless control is helpful.""The most valuable feature is the policy routing and application control.""FortiGate has a strong security topic which allows all of the Fortinet devices to communicate and share information which makes their security more powerful.""It has improved our organization with control data."

More Fortinet FortiGate Pros →

"SD-WAN features should be added.""Web publishing is important, as well as the importance of the antivirus patch.""The stability has been excellent.""Web filtering is easy enough to deploy, manage, or make exceptions to.""The most significant aspect is the protection it offers.""The most valuable feature is the central dashboard""The most valuable feature of this solution is the flexibility of it, it's pretty versatile.""The solution is scalable."

More Sophos XG Pros →

"The most valuable features of the solution stem from web filtering, malware protection, and antivirus.""This is a capable appliance and the standard features work well for us.""The solution can scale well."

More Zyxel Unified Security Gateway Pros →

Cons
"Price, of course, can always be more competitive or better.""There are problems with the custom reporting of the unique traffic. The data is there, but it is too difficult for us to extract.""There are some complex administration tasks in their administration portal. That needs to be improved.""As far as wanting more scalability or things in the network diagram, it's going to cost you.""I would like to see improvements with the antivirus and IPS as they are not working properly all the time.""With FortiGate, the main complaint that I have heard is about the technical support.""Backup can be improved.""They can do more tests before they release new versions because I would like to be more assured. We had some experiences where they release something new and great, but some of the old features are disabled or they don't work well, which impacts the product satisfaction. The manufacturer should be able to prove that everything works or not only that it might work. This is applicable to most of the other services, software, and hardware companies. They all should work on this. We cannot trust every new release, such as a beta release, on the first day. We wait for some comments on the forums and from other companies that we know. We always wait a few weeks before we use the updated version. They should also extend the VPN client application, especially for Linux versions. Currently, it has an application for Linux devices, but it doesn't work the way we want to connect to the VPN. They use only the old connection, not the new one. They have VPN client applications for Windows and Mac, but they can add more useful features to better manage the devices and monitor the current health of each device. Such features would be helpful for our company."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"The security of Sophos XG could be improved.""There's an IP address delivery for our VPN client and a limited range of IP addresses. So this is a problem in the latest firmware release, but rather than using homework scenarios, we need a lot of VPN clients.""Let's say I set up a rule to block users from accessing YouTube or Facebook. The rule will only block the HTTP traffic, which is non-secure traffic... The problem comes when you are trying to block, or allow, similar traffic that uses HTTPS. You have to create a certificate and import it into the users' web browsers, whatever they are using... The problem occurs when you're dealing with roaming users who use laptops and have to move between different sites that have different types of policies applied to them. You have to import all sorts of certificates from each site into their browser. Doing so will most probably conflict with something else that is totally irrelevant and cause a problem.""The support engineers of the product are not very tech-savvy, making it an area where improvements are required.""Having a web portal where you could make requests for the categorization of non-categorized items, would be beneficial.""I would like to have better SSL decryption and HTTP decryption. There should be filtering of SSL and HTTP traffic. Sophos XG consumes a lot of endpoint resources. It consumes a lot of RAM and CPU resources, and they should look into this.""They need to improve the SD-WAN feature.""For the moment, managing the Sophos interface is a little bit challenging."

More Sophos XG Cons →

"The product has some scalability and data management issues where improvements are required.""Sometimes it reboots when you least expect it, and that's the main issue.""Although manageable, the user interface is a little bit slow and could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Fortinet has one or two license types, and the VPN numbers are only limited by the hardware chassis make."

  • "The value is the capability of having multiple services with one unique license, not having the limitation per user licensing schema, like other vendors."
  • "Easy to understand licensing requirements."
  • "We saved a bundle by not needing all the past appliances from an NGFW."

    Reviews from Real Users

Sophos XG Firewall stands out among its competitors, among other reasons, for its intrusion detection capabilities, its user-friendly management platform, and in general, for being a complete and robust firewall solution.

Niranjan P., a network & system support engineer, writes, “Sophos is a comprehensive solution which allows me to configure all the attendant products, such as Sophos's firewall, endpoint, and encryption features. A nice feature of Sophos is that it offers in sync and heartbeat security. When my clients have a perimeter involving Sophos firewall and endpoints with Sophos Endpoint, they can communicate with each other.”

Antonio D., sales manager at INFOSEC, notes, “The product has a console that is based in the cloud for all their products. In this console, they have email security, firewall security, endpoint security, et cetera. All of the products on offer in the console are very useful for us. The solution is stable. The solution works well for enterprises and large-scale organizations.”

Antony M., ICT/HMIS supervisor at a healthcare company, writes, “The VPN feature is the most valuable. It has come in handy during this period when people are working from home. The filtering feature is also valuable because you can easily filter the sites that you don't want to visit. You can also set timely surfing quotas”
