What needs improvement?
The packet channelizing feature is the main function that should be improved. Juniper is currently desegregated. I'd like to see a combined hub-and-spoke kind of functionality where the job is done through the configuration.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for two years.

Good operational efficiency, easy to configure, and a good user interface
Pros and Cons
- "The GUI interface distinguishes it from other vendors and makes it easy to operate."
- "In the next release of this solution, I would like to see better integration with software-defined networking."
What is our primary use case?
We provide network solutions to our clients and Juniper Ethernet Switches are one of the devices that we install and configure for them. We are certified by Juniper to work with these switches.
This solution makes up part of the physical network.
We had one big project where we had to deploy Juniper switches with a firewall.
What is most valuable?
The GUI interface distinguishes it from other vendors and makes it easy to operate.
Juniper switches are quick and easy to configure. Depending on the requirements, you only have to configure two or three parameters.
The operational efficiency of these devices is good.
This solution has a lot of features that allow it to be configured in different ways that are suitable in any type of network.
The physical unit is compact.
What needs improvement?
In the next release of this solution, I would like to see better integration with software-defined networking.
The coding can be simplified a little bit.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been working with Juniper Ethernet Switches for about a year and a half.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
In terms of stability, we have not had any trouble. One of the solutions that we deployed about a year and a half ago is intact and still working perfectly.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have had no issues with scalability.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have never contacted technical support directly because I haven't had any serious issues. When I need support, I look at the community forums on the website. There is a chat function on the website, which is very helpful.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We use and supply products by many different vendors because we are project-oriented, and not tied to any one particular vendor. Some of the other vendors are Cisco and Huawei.
The licensing costs for Cisco are higher.
How was the initial setup?
Configuring this solution requires that you understand the core concept of programming. Everything that you need to do has to be programmed. For example, in the C programing language, you define a class. So here, once you understand the protocol logic, it is very easy to configure.
If you know what to do then the deployment is quick. It may take a couple of days.
What other advice do I have?
In general, I cannot find anything that is bad about this product.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Good performance with an easy initial setup and a helpful unselect feature
Pros and Cons
- "The performance is very good."
- "The operating system could be better."
What is our primary use case?
We still use the solution as a legacy network just for a core switch. It's for the ISP.
What is most valuable?
The unselect feature is very useful.
The performance is very good. It is very reliable.
It is scalable.
We found the initial setup to be simple.
What needs improvement?
The operating system could be better. Sometimes it's not stable enough or has some sort of critical block.
Support could be a bit better in certain regions.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution since 2014.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is reliable, and the performance is good. There are no glitches, and it doesn't crash or freeze. That said, the operating system has its stability issues. There are some bugs there.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution scales well. It's not a problem if you need to expand.
You can upgrade or add more switches to this product.
We have six or seven people that use the solution. They are all engineers.
We may increase usage, however, likely instead on an SD-WAN network.
How are customer service and support?
They need some better support services in the Asia region. If I get support from America or Europe, the help they offer is good enough for me.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We did not previously use a different solution.
How was the initial setup?
For the legacy network, it's not complex to implement the solution. It's just a simple setup.
A full deployment and configuration take about two to three hours.
For regular maintenance, we only need two to three people.
What about the implementation team?
We have a team that can handle the deployment.

We're a Juniper partner.
We are using the latest version of the solution. We're working with the 9200 series.
I'd recommend the solution to others.
I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. The operating system does have some bugs that need to be worked out.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

How was the initial setup?
The installation of Juniper Ethernet Switches is straightforward because they have been in the industry for a long time. There are enough qualified resources available in order to go ahead and deploy them. Something is complex only when you don't have the skills required in order to execute the job. Otherwise, everything could be complex if you don't know the subject. The fact that it is easy is because there are enough trained resources available in order to execute the installation.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
You require the Junos Management Platform in order to manage the switches and you need to purchase the Juniper Ethernet Switches.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution to others.
I rate Juniper Ethernet Switches a seven out of ten.

Pros and Cons
- "I like the VLAN capabilities, and the Junos interface is easy to use."
- "EX switches take too long to boot when we restart them for maintenance. We need to minimize downtime. Another issue is the command line interface. Juniper's commands are different from other switches, so it's hard to remember them."
What is most valuable?
I like the VLAN capabilities, and the Junos interface is easy to use.
What needs improvement?
EX switches take too long to boot when we restart them for maintenance. We need to minimize downtime. Another issue is the command line interface. Juniper's commands are different from other switches, so it's hard to remember them.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have used EX switches for about two or three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate EX switches eight out of 10 for stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I rate EX switches seven out of 10 for scalability. Sometimes the Junos OS hangs, and we need to restart the switch. It takes a long time to reboot after that.
How are customer service and support?
I rate Juniper support eight out of 10.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive

Robust, scalable, and easy to install, but it's expensive
Pros and Cons
- "Both Juniper and Cisco switches are interoperable."
- "I would like the ability to operate with other operating systems."
What is most valuable?
Both Juniper and Cisco switches are interoperable. They talk to each other.
The interoperability is very good, but with some switches, it is very rare.
What needs improvement?
The problem is with Juniper is the OS. Not everyone knows about Junos. If they are comfortable with using Junos then it will be the best switch. More people are accustomed to the Cisco platform, especially with the CLI or the graphical interfaces.
Juniper has its own operating system called Junos.
I would like the ability to integrate with other operating systems.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have worked for Juniper for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is very strong and very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's scalable. With the Juniper switches, all switches are L3 switches, which is a three-layer switch.
The 24 port EX2300 comes with four slots of 10 gig fiber.
We have approximately 30 percent of the market share for clients.
How are customer service and technical support?
There is no improvement needed with technical support.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is very easy. The setup is not a problem, as long as you know the operating system very well, especially the Junos operating system.
As long as you understand the operating system, Juno's interface, and all of the commands, it doesn't take much time to deploy. It's very easy.
It's similar to Cisco, but you need to concentrate.
You need two to three people to maintain this solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is very aggressive. The only disadvantage with Juniper is the modules are very expensive lately.
It could be cheaper, but they are always expensive.
If you want support with Juniper you will have to use Juniper modules, otherwise, you don't get the technical support.
For example, third-party modules can be integrated into Cisco, but with Juniper, if you want technical support directly, you can only use the Juniper modules. When tech support takes control, they will recognize whether it is a Juniper module or third-party modules.
Juniper switches come with either one year, three years, or five years of support.
When comparing, Cisco comes with five years.
What other advice do I have?
If you look at the market shares, Cisco is more than Juniper.
I would definitely recommend this solution to others, but not Huawei. I would not recommend Huawei, there is no chance for Huawei in the market.
I would rate Juniper Ethernet Switches a six out of ten.
