Provides ability to analyze data independently without relying on IT for every query
Pros and Cons
  • "Qlik Sense is very stable. I would rate the stability a ten out of ten. Even for rare issues, we receive good support from Qlik. It's a very stable solution."
  • "The reporting solution recently added to the latest Cloud version, since December or January, is not fully developed. The ability to use tabular reporting, like in dashboards, would be a great feature."

What is our primary use case?

We have a lot of customer types, but many work with ERPs. We use Qlik to connect to the ERP, analyze data within it, and build dashboards. Sales analysis is usually the first project because sales are crucial for every business.

However, we also analyze production, manufacturing, and even public administration data depending on the customer's needs. So, our main areas are manufacturing, finance, and the public sector.

What is most valuable?

It's the "ease of use," like the self-service aspect. My customers appreciate being able to analyze data on their own, without relying on IT for every query.

Additionally, the associative experience of the database and its intuitive data exploration capabilities are key features for users.

What needs improvement?

The reporting solution recently added to the latest Cloud version, since December or January, is not fully developed. The ability to use tabular reporting, like in dashboards, would be a great feature.

So, tabular reporting needs development.

For how long have I used the solution?

Since the product's origin - that was 2016.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Qlik Sense is very stable. I would rate the stability a ten out of ten. Even for rare issues, we receive good support from Qlik. It's a very stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability a ten out of ten. You can start with one user and easily scale up to even a thousand without limitations.

We mainly have medium and enterprise, though we also have some small clients. But in the Italian market, "small" and "medium" have different meanings than other markets. A typical Italian medium company might only have 10-15 users, while in other markets, this would be considered small.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support are responsive, not so fast, not always fast because there are some problems.

A little improvement is needed because there's a large first level of support with people who have no experience, and you need to escalate to get the right answer. So, the first level needs to be improved.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy. So, I would rate my experience with the initial setup a nine out of ten, where one is difficult, and ten is easy.

The deployment model depends on the customers, like cloud, hybrid, on-premises private cloud, or Qlik Cloud.

Some prefer on-premises only, some hybrid, and some directly on the Cloud. So, all options.

What about the implementation team?

From the initial setup until the tool is ready for production use, the process takes about one month. Longer, some may even ask for more.

There are different phases for on-premises and SaaS deployments. On-premises requires infrastructure configuration and direct installation on customer machines.

For SaaS, it's very quick, and you can have your instance ready in five minutes.

The first phase is installation, followed by the analysis, specification, and system requirements definition. Then, we define the initial project to develop.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is a little expensive for the Italian market. In particular, it's not easy. Right now, other products have more aggressive pricing, making it tough to sell Qlik Sense.

We sell differently, but it's not easy. A cheaper price would be better for us. Normally, Qlik Sense has two types and costs. The medium cost is around 700 euros per year.

One license costs 840 euros per year, and the other is 400 euros per year. Medium is around 700 or 600 euros.

What other advice do I have?

My recommendation is to use it. It's a unique product in the market due to the technical reason of the associative experience. This is a unique experience for BI products.

If you want a tool or a system for business intelligence, Qlik should be one of the candidates. It could be perfect option.

Overall, I would rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Flexible, has a lot of capabilities, and lets users take information from multiple systems and present it in a single dashboard
Pros and Cons
  • "What I found most valuable in Qlik Sense is its flexibility. It's a very flexible tool, and it has a lot of capabilities compared to Tableau and Power BI. In Qlik Sense, you can take data from any of the systems, and you can do data transformation, prepare the data, then present your KPIs. Data transformation isn't present in Tableau, Power BI, and other tools. In Qlik Sense, you're able to get the data and directly present that data. The presentation layer is also very good in Qlik Sense. My company is very happy with this tool."
  • "What needs improvement in Qlik Sense is the support. It could be faster. My organization had already talked to Qlik management and has escalated multiple times, so management is looking into the support."

What is our primary use case?

Qlik Sense is a dashboarding tool, so you can use it for any enterprise-wide dashboarding in areas such as sales, supply chain, HR, etc. If you want to see some KPIs on the dashboard, you can use Qlik Sense.

What is most valuable?

What I found most valuable in Qlik Sense is its flexibility. My company is very happy with this tool.

What needs improvement?

What needs improvement in Qlik Sense is the support. It could be faster. My organization had already talked to Qlik management and has escalated multiple times, so management is looking into the support.

For how long have I used the solution?

I started using Qlik Sense three years ago, and I'm still using it now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Qlik Sense is very good, stability-wise.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Qlik Sense is a scalable tool, and though it requires a lot of memory, it's still scalable.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support provided by the Qlik Sense team isn't great as it's very slow. My team doesn't get many issues from the solution, so the need to contact support only happens once in a while, for example, every six months. At the moment, support is pathetic, and my company just has connections with Qlik management, so the issues get solved. Normally, you don't get a lot of issues with Qlik Sense.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

The main reason we went with Qlik Sense is that we have multiple systems, so we take data from multiple systems then we present the data in a single dashboard on Qlik Sense, so it's a very good tool for that particular purpose.

How was the initial setup?

Deploying the Qlik Sense server took ten to fifteen days because it required a huge infrastructure. If you require very heavy dashboards, you need a very huge infrastructure, and once that is done and all infrastructure is ready, you just need to install Qlik Sense and start using it, which means you can go on building different dashboards.

You can quickly build normal dashboards within the console, but some dashboards, particularly the very heavy and complex ones with a lot of KPIs, required six months to complete, so deployment time would depend on how big the dashboard is and its use case.

What about the implementation team?

We have an in-house team for implementing Qlik Sense, but we also use consultants, especially if our team is busy with other projects. We didn't face any problems with the Qlik Sense consultants.

Normally, we do deployments internally, but the Qlik consultants deployed all the Qlik infrastructure here in our area, then they built one or two dashboards, then left the rest of the dashboard building to our team.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'm not able to reveal the licensing cost for Qlik Sense, but because it was a huge deal, the cost was less than the usual cost. The license wasn't that costly. It was the infrastructure that was very costly.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I evaluated Power BI and Tableau.

What other advice do I have?

My company is using the dashboarding tools of Qlik called Qlik Sense and QlikView.

I can't remember exactly which version of Qlik Sense I'm using, but it's the version released in November 2021.

My company is happy with Qlik, in particular, QlikView and Qlik Sense, and as of now, there's no drawback identified, or anything creating problems, but because I belong to an SAP-driven company and most of the ERP is SAP, my company is looking into an SAP product such as SAP Analytics Cloud, but my team has not started any project, just looking into the solution.

My company has around two thousand Qlik Sense users now. Right now, because my organization has five thousand licenses, with just two thousand licenses being used, there's no plan to increase Qlik Sense usage.

I would recommend Qlik Sense to anyone looking for a reporting tool.

My rating for Qlik Sense is eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

User-friendly with great reports and regular updates
Pros and Cons
  • "The reports are better looking than in QlikView."
  • "Mostly when it comes to the loading of the data and reload times of the reports, it could be better."

What is our primary use case?

We are right now migrating the QlikView environments (PROD, TEST, DEV) to Qlik Sense

Each of the environments is a multiple-node environment. That is the first step of the migration. The second will be to migrate all of the reports to the new tool.

In parallel, we are also working on some other important aspects, like designing the schedule for the reports (so that they will be refreshed every day in the correct order), also designing security concepts, etc.

The project is really interesting and gives a lot of great experience.

How has it helped my organization?

It did improve the organization.

Qlik Sense, in comparison to QlikView, is a more modern tool and gives a lot of new possibilities.

The reports are better looking than in QlikView.

What is also important is that QlikView is not supported that much, unlike Qlik Sense. It also does not get the nice updates and new features that Qlik Sense does. In the coming years, that will only become more visible for the users of the reports.

When it comes to the users, they like lots of data and new ways to look at the same data.

What is most valuable?

For me, as an administrator/developer, the management console is more user-friendly, so the solution is easier to maintain. Also, some of the features are easier to create - for example, the tasks (they are needed for the reports to be refreshed).

For the users, the reports look way better, which is quite important as it's easier to find some interesting conclusions based on the data when you have a better-looking dashboard in front of you.

What needs improvement?

There are a lot of points to be improved. Mostly when it comes to the loading of the data and reload times of the reports, it could be better.

Also, we got some feedback from the users in our company that say they would like to have some new features in the objects on the sheets of the reports.

What is nice is that the tool has a lot of updates. Every few months, new stuff is available. That it is one of the most important aspects and why we have chosen this particular product for our business intelligence needs.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for one year.

Pros and Cons
  • "The tool's data analysis is useful to help out the teams across the globe and to track their work."
  • "Qlik Sense requires one to have a lot of technical knowledge."

What is our primary use case?

I use the solution in my company for dashboard building and reporting purposes. In my company, we have a lot of dashboards that are live, and we also work with quite a lot of reports.

What needs improvement?

In our company, we found a few requirements in the tool, which we directly shared with Qlik's team through our account manager.

With the May 2024 release, the tool has covered a lot of products, but I feel there is more to come. I am expecting new updates in the tool.

Qlik Sense requires one to have a lot of technical knowledge. It is an area where improvements can be made.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Qlik Sense for three to four years.

How are customer service and support?

My company gets support from the service vendor team, so we have not contacted Qlik directly.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Earlier, I used to use QlikView. Every tool has its own set of pros and cons. It is not fair to compare a tool with another product.

If you look at Power BI, there are a few things you can do that would take a bit of time in Qlik Sense. On the knowledge side, people might need to know how to handle Qlik Sense technically. Power BI requires relatively less effort for a person to manage, especially given its exposure to Excel, so it is a reason why people might be already aware of Power BI and not Qlik Sense. Power BI borrows many features or examples from Excel or Access, which are long-standing Microsoft products that people are already aware of in the present.

What was our ROI?

When used manually, the tool has saved our company a lot of time. For certain projects, we have saved a couple of files for each iteration.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Considering the deal that we have acquired, Qlik Sense is pretty good in terms of price.

What other advice do I have?

The tool's data analysis is useful to help out the teams across the globe and to track their work.

Qlik Sense is linked with our company's SQL servers.

After working with QlikView for a very long time, I felt it did not carry over many of the features to Qlik Sense directly, and it was done over a period of time. Until the tool's MAy 2024 was released, we did not have a hide option for every object, which now they have given, but there is a workaround for it using the layout container. In QlikView, such features were easily available with an expression view. It was much easier in QlikView than it is in Qlik Sense's latest version.

My company is not quite open to AI because of the compliance issues and the data restrictions that we have in place. We are managing AI-related areas in a controlled manner using Python and a few other things, which are being built in-house rather than using open-source platforms.

I rate the tool an eight to nine out of ten.

A great single source of truth with good analysis and data workflows
Pros and Cons
  • "The Qlik Sense cloud insights advisor helps our business users to get the answers to their data questions so that they do not have to rely on IT/BI resources every time they have some data request."
  • "In my opinion, collaborative development of the Qlik Apps is a bit tricky and difficult in the Qlik Sense Cloud."

What is our primary use case?

We are in the affiliate marketing industry. We are using the Qlik Sense Cloud to visualize our marketing-related data. Qlik Sense allows us to visualize the complete funnel from the customer visiting the Google/Bing ads to the product sale.

We are also using Qlik Sense as a platform where we integrate the data from other data sources and make the insights from it which otherwise would have been quite a difficult task.

The Qlik Sense cloud insights advisor helps our business users to get the answers to their data questions so that they do not have to rely on IT/BI resources every time they have some data request.

How has it helped my organization?

Qlik sense is considered the single source of truth for our organization's operational data.

Users do not need to switch to different data sources because Qlik Sense has various data connectors that allow us to integrate the data from the various sources into one platform.

The platform has helped us to analyze our data in a more systematic manner, and make informed decisions from it.

The solution increased the operational efficiency of our team members and allowed them to leverage the data and get the most out of it.

What is most valuable?

I found "Qlik application Automation" most interesting. It allows us to create automated analytics and data workflows. This helped us to create an end-to-end pipeline from raw data to Active intelligence. With Qlik Automation, we can reload multiple apps parallel and chain the app together to run one after another.

Importing/exporting the app script to Github, sending automated emails/reports or chat messages on Teams/Slack based on condition. These are some amazing things we can do with the Qlik application automation feature.

What needs improvement?

In my opinion, collaborative development of the Qlik Apps is a bit tricky and difficult in the Qlik Sense Cloud. For example, the developer who is not an owner of the app cannot see the app script. The user needs to duplicate the app, and then he should be able to see the app script or make any changes in the app script.

I see that two developers can not work collaboratively on one app. Moreover, Qlik sense cloud does not provide an option to create a folder on the platform to save the relevant Qvd's/files in one folder. I believe this is something the product should focus on.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for two years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is highly scalable.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service is good, yet not the best. However, community forums help quite a lot in case of any Qlik-related technical queries.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Power BI, however, I did not use this platform intensively. I used it very rarely.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was pretty straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented this solution in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing of the product is very competitive. The licensing and the setup process is super smooth and easy.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did evaluate Tableau.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Easy to use, provides a self-service environment, and offers high performance
Pros and Cons
  • "From siloed reports, we went to a centralized knowledge hub, combining cross-functional data, and helping decision-makers see the data as a whole, therefore making more informed decisions."
  • "Ad-hoc reporting capabilities would be ideal."

What is our primary use case?

The primary solution was to provide a centralized way to access siloed cross-functional reports.

By using Qlik Sense, we were able to combine data from our BI solution, ERP, and other systems, to provide daily reports, plus analytics capabilities with high performance.

As Qlik Sense is an in-memory solution, the performance is fast and provides real-time insights.

Also, with their ETL capability, we were able to perform ETL without a true data warehouse. It saved us a lot of money by being able to postpone the DW project and gave us time to think of other solutions, like data lakes.

How has it helped my organization?

From siloed reports, we went to a centralized knowledge hub, combining cross-functional data, and helping decision-makers see the data as a whole, therefore making more informed decisions.

Also, the self-service capability allowed users to create their own reports on the fly. People from different departments were pulling their data from different sources and presenting their own truth.

With Qlik Sense, and being able to provide a central data hub, we were able to recreate most of the siloed reports, present one truth on the data, and increase the trust of the organization in the data being presented, gaining leadership approval.

What is most valuable?

The ETL capability is great. It facilitated the integration of data from different sources without a true data warehouse. Being able to pull data directly from the ERP system and apply the business rules in Qlik, and combine it with the BI data, decreased the business process time. We had to send every request over to our overseas BI team. Being able to have at least one BI resource in-house who is an expert in Qlik, we decrease the development time and started delivering solutions in a much more timely manner.

The ease of use, providing a self-service environment, and high performance when interacting with the dashboards and reports are all great.

What needs improvement?

Ad-hoc reporting capabilities would be ideal. Despite the solution being a self-service solution, many users still struggle to create their reports. With an easy drag-and-drop style report, it would make a huge difference. There are extensions for that, however, you have to pay them separately.

Having a report publication feature is also very important, and it is not native to the on-prem version. However, Qlik has made huge advancements on the cloud version, and adding the hybrid capabilities, in which we can maintain the data in-house and just publish the dashboards to the cloud, will allow us to soon go to the cloud and have access to all those extra features we are missing on-prem.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is very stable. They release three to four updates every year. That way, if bugs come up, they are fixing them in a timely manner. They always listen to the user community and tend to develop what is being requested.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is very scalable, especially the cloud version. Their licensing agreement works really well for large organizations.

How are customer service and support?

The initial support has to come from the vendors, which is something I don't like much, as it can be costly. However, I believe they are starting to provide direct support in certain cases. The use of the Qlik Community is fantastic, as they have experts providing solutions and fixes in a timely manner as well.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

SAP Business Objects. They were very expensive and lacked the dashboard capability side of it. It was also very complex and needed more internal resources. Every request would take longer for it to be developed as well.

How was the initial setup?

The setup was very straightforward. The setup is done through 3rd-party vendors, so you just need to make sure you spend a little more and hire an experienced consulting company for the work.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented it via a vendor. Having the knowledge of experienced consultants doing the work is worth it and can prevent huge delays and problems.

What was our ROI?

I am not really sure about the full ROI numbers, however, compared to what we would have spent with the DW development, and increased headcount, we would have spent a lot more money. As I said, their licensing plan makes it very simple and cost-effective when we need to add more users.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'd advise users to go to the cloud. If you can, go directly to the SaaS version. From a cost perspective, it was cheaper than other solutions - and better. Now it might seem more expensive, however, with all the features available, and being able to create a full data pipeline, it makes more sense using Qlik Sense.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We also looked into Power BI and Tableau.

What other advice do I have?

Definitely go to the cloud. Use the SaaS solution as it offers more capabilities and you don't need to be concerned about the back-end management. If fully going to the cloud is not possible, think of a hybrid solution.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Good ETA with the ability to build intuitive and interactive dashboard designs
Pros and Cons
  • "The Nprinting is useful."
  • "I'd like to see more end-user-friendly UI designs."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is used for helping clients in their decision-making abilities, and to effectively analyze their data.

With the product, we're creating intuitive, interactive, and storytelling dashboards.

How has it helped my organization?

This is a powerful tool with integrated ETL and the ability to handle huge data sets. It's capable of building intuitive and interactive dashboard designs.

What is most valuable?

The best features include ETL. Transforming data with complex logic can be done within the tool.

The Nprinting is useful. With it, we're scheduling reports directly to end-users.

What needs improvement?

I'd like to see more end-user-friendly UI designs and the ability to layer objects one by one would make a huge impact.

A valuable solution for producing individual reports and linking reports, but needs better Excel integration
Pros and Cons
  • "Some of the valuable areas of this solution include producing individual reports and closing the gap."
  • "Right now, it is complex and you have to understand the data model prior to analyzing it, so basically I would like to see an integration with Excel in the future."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution for standard reporting for cost and finance accounting. It creates VAT reports, balance sheets reports, and a lot of cost reports. You can split the company into departments and produce individual reports to deduct or extract, for example, German projects, which have to be brought for tax collection for Germany. Since ELIN is an Austrian company, we have to take out the part that has to be allocated to the German tax authorities.

From what I understand, we have data tables in proALPHA and then we have a kind of intermediate bridge, which is the Microsoft environment where this data is copied, and then from that database it is brought into Qlik Sense.

What is most valuable?

Some of the valuable areas of this solution include producing individual reports and closing the gap. Within proALPHA, it is not possible to implement a link of information from separate parts. This link can be done by Qlik Sense.

What needs improvement?

What would help is an Excel sheet that is linked directly to Qlik Sense so that instead of having to produce an Excel file, you would already have an Excel file that is connected to Qlik Sense. I don't know why it is not already set up this way because it would be more convenient. Right now, it is complex and you have to understand the data model prior to analyzing it, so basically I would like to see an integration with Excel in the future.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable and reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is easy to scale and about 20 people work with it in my company.
The rollout should be for the full user amount, which is roughly 200% from 20 to 200. But one main report is missing, and it doesn't make sense to roll it out because if they desperately need this one report and if it is not included or not completely correct in this new tool, then we would have understandable complaints from the users.

How was the initial setup?

Integration was my colleague's responsibility. It wasn't easy, and altogether it took about one year. My colleague used some consultants for support because it wasn't easy to understand, collect, and integrate the data in the correct way, but the rest he did himself.

As far as I understand, there is a very low level of maintenance because he does as much as possible by himself.

What other advice do I have?

Some reports are not fully translated from the old QlikView version into the modern Qlik Sense, including some basic reports in the construction business. One main report is missing because if it was completely deployed in the new Qlik Sense system, QlikView could be closed forever because QlikView's so old.

QlikView only produces aggregated amounts, so you can never trim down in it. In Qlik Sense, it's the opposite. The results are produced by collecting the specific entries, so you always have to trim down, which is obviously the better approach.

Qlik Sense is a good tool for BI in order to connect in normal circumstances, but not for integrated data tables in big ERP systems. I would rate this solution as a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
