I use SAP BW4HANA as an enterprise data warehouse to integrate data from various systems, including SAP ECC, S/4HANA, BW on HANA, HR systems, and flat files.
SAP BW4HANA is used in our company for analytical purposes. My company uses SAP HCM with SuccessFactors for human capital management. SAP HCM is the core module in SAP S/4HANA, while SuccessFactors is an advanced layer of the cloud-based solution. SAP BW and SAP BO offer features like an on-premises product, and both the products are catered to users using SAP S/4HANA and SAP SAC, making them products that are leveraged and facilitated by customers who want to use some specific features.
We use SAP BW4HANA as our data warehousing solution. We pull data from different sources and extract it into the central data warehouse. We analyze and visualize it using analytical engines such as Tableau or SAP Analytics Cloud.
We use SAP BW4HANA to extract data from SAP ECC and load it into another system, such as Snowflake. SAP BW4HANA can be deployed in both the cloud and on-prem.
It is used for analyzing data, finding patterns, and generating reports, especially management-level reports. So, it's an advanced and enhanced form of the traditional SAP BW, which could run on other databases. SAP BW4HANA runs only on SAP HANA, and it has certain additional enhancements and capabilities that are possible because of BW4HANA. There are very few use cases. I haven't seen many customers using SAP BW4HANA or even SAP BW because there are so many BI applications around nowadays.

We are consultants and distributors for BW4HANA. SAP wants to transition all of their customers to the cloud, so they have announced a lot of policies that will support the on-premise product until 2024 or 2025. That's a good opportunity for us to transition our customers to the cloud.
