The improvement I want to see is a reduction in duplicate records. In comparison with SCCM, SCCM does not have any duplicate records, which is a significant advantage. Discovery should adopt a similar approach to avoid duplicate entries.
If the dependency maps can go live and we can work through the process with a click, we're reaching the stage where issues are identified and mitigated. It would be ideal if we could utilize it to reduce vulnerabilities or address any other feedback. The solution could include drilling down into dependents and mapping for the project team. When an application is connected, you can right-click to identify whose site is not working and how to mitigate that if it's available.

An area that can be improved is the IoT. I have a customer here in Brazil interested in using it to discover assets that are not technology assets, like in a factory where you have machines that you need to monitor. All these machines already have software that monitors them, but they don't have the artificial intelligence and machine learning that BMC has. So, it's like a marketing issue. It's like a segment of the market that can be more explored. We get some opportunities in that market here in Brazil, so I think it could improve. But they already have a module called Edge, Discovery Edge, which works with the IoT, but I think it can improve that.

The product falls short compared to storage discovery mechanisms offered by Tenable or ServiceNow ITOM. In the market, there are various applications available that provide different sets of features. Its drawback is that it doesn't give the database configuration customers need out of the box. Additionally, the classification of storage virtualization is relatively lacking. Therefore, there is room for improvement, particularly in the database areas.
It's very easy to use the solution if you are configuring a domain-based Windows environment. Still, if you want to discover some Linux-based environments, it's a little tricky. BMC Helix Discovery needs more customization options.
The improvement which we require is to delete the Internet service. Till some of the features are coming, like, internally side. If you are taking one server to model, there are a lot of usages like three structures per diagram is coming, and we have to do the man lot of manual work. Instead of that, whatever our requirement, we should be able to provide the servers and get the structure. So this is what we want to implement with such data.
The solution should have different portals and logins for each customer so only that customer's assets show. As a service provider, we manage multiple customers so would prefer to view their assets separately.
We would like updates more often. The virtual appliance with agentless discovery is very good and simple and doesn't need any improvement. It will be better if the Nutanix architecture is more detailed. I want to note the high stability and smooth operation of this system. New patches and updates are always coming and help to improve the performance of the system in a real way. I don't know what else could be improved in this system. I am always satisfied with this product's full functionality and timely updates.

The solution is old technology and customizations are very difficult. Other Discovery tools and ITSM tools are more user-friendly for customizations. From the Discovery perspective, the solution decommissioned Drift which was used to identify variances between baseline and new CIs. Drift was used once data pushed to the CMBD. It might not have been highly used, but now Drift is gone with no replacement. From the ITSM perspective, the solution decommissioned Smart Reporting when it was only launched four or five years ago. The tool was a good analytical reporting module. It is unclear why the solution invested so much in the tool when they had no clear roadmap. They might provide some other alternative but this was not a stable move. The solution is not user friendly.

What would make BMC Helix Discovery better is if it had more client-side discovery features, for example, printers and desktops. Right now, it's focused more on data center discovery, so if it had additional features focused on the client-side discovery, that would be great. In the next release of BMC Helix Discovery, I'd like more client-side discovery features such as desktop discovery, printer discovery, and other IP-based client-side discovery features. The solution can discover desktops and printers, but there's still room for improvement on the client side.

While I consider the solution to be good, it should better be able to integrate with other solutions. The solution does not offer 100 percent availability, but 99 to 99.5 percent. It would be nice to see more updates to the solution. Every two months it delivers new features which contain new infrastructure and configurations.
The CMDB could be improved. Getting data from the CMDB is the greatest challenge. Also, integration with the system, the platform itself, can be difficult. For best results, you need to integrate with internal vendors.
I would like to see the ability to scan some of the newer cloud platforms. I know that BMC has them on the roadmap, and they are coming soon, but they can't come fast enough. Being able to scan more of GCloud, Alibaba Cloud, or whatever the public clouds that our customers are buying, we need to make sure that Discovery can find them as well. There should be more education to the customer that while you can set this tool up and walk away from it, just like any other IT tool, it requires care and feeding as your environment grows and your technology library scales out. You need to sit down and think about how do you manage your asset library. Sure, you can collect everything, but is there a business case for everything you're collecting? Maybe there is some rudimentary training, or some rudimentary thought leadership, which needs to be provided around it. Because while you can discover everything, it doesn't mean you should.
BMC Discovery, formerly ADDM, is a digital enterprise management solution that automates asset discovery and application dependency mapping to build a holistic view of all your data center assets and the relationships between them.
The improvement I want to see is a reduction in duplicate records. In comparison with SCCM, SCCM does not have any duplicate records, which is a significant advantage. Discovery should adopt a similar approach to avoid duplicate entries.
BMC Helix Discovery is a bit tough to use and administer. It needs a lot of manpower to manage it on a day-to-day basis.
The solution can improve the discovery of processes and services.

The license model could be more flexible and cheaper pricing.

There are certain limitations in the mapping feature of the solution.
The product is not fully automated. The solution should add a little more automation for vertical mapping.
