Modern identity access has unified customer logins and strengthened risk‑based protection
Auth0 Platform from Okta, which is for access management and single sign-on, is basically for dividing modern IM into categories. The first is workforce identity, meaning SSO and access management solutions for users, partners, and temporary employees, which is catered by a traditional Okta Platform. Customer identity speaks about internet application customers, such as logging into an FMCG application through mobile or laptop applications like Flipkart, Amazon, and Alibaba.com. If security is needed for these applications, it is called customer identity and access management solution, CIAM, and requires a different tool because the user base will be in millions or billions. For instance, banking apps and airline applications fall under CIAM solutions, and Auth0 Platform will be implemented for these requirements. Most integrations will not be done by traditional connectors but by exchanging metadata between the application and Auth0 Platform. Once metadata is exchanged, certificate information and cryptographic keys are also exchanged, making transactions secure. Different methodologies for onboarding users are available, including bulk onboarding and risk score features. If someone logs into a banking app normally from the UK, but they log in from Namibia after stealing a mobile phone, the application detects this change of location as a zero trust model. Policies such as restricting app access based on location can also be implemented using Auth0 Platform, along with self-service user registration features similar to opening a bank account. Universal login, while I do not think it has a major impact, allows a seamless experience by authenticating multiple app logins from one entry point, which would be particularly useful in healthcare applications. Auth0 Platform is quite affordable compared to IBM Security Access Verify, which is on the higher end. ForgeRock and Okta are in the same bucket for pricing.

Cloud security has improved remote access and has reduced costs for smaller client sites
I have used Cloudflare One's Identity-Aware Proxy, and it is quite straightforward from what I have seen so far. The app registration on the Azure side integrates fully into Cloudflare, and I am very satisfied with that part because it is easy to set up. The integration of Cloudflare One's Secure Web Gateway and Zero Trust Network Access works without any issues. That part is pretty automatic, and if you complete the rest of the setup, it comes together by itself with no issues from my side. What makes it nice is that we can actually start replacing on-site firewalls at this stage for the smaller clients because it does not matter if they go to a coffee shop or work from home; they are still secured by the same connection. The hops get shorter and you get better latency. We have done testing to see if it is better. One thing that we did notice with our proof of concept with our current client is that they have people connecting from the UK. When they used their previous VPN solution, uploading CAD drawings and other files to the server took a long time. They mentioned that it is much quicker on Cloudflare One's solution. I definitely believe that is part of the improved performance, and I am satisfied with that as well. What is nice about Cloudflare One is that it makes the setup easier and also easier to train technicians to maintain it. Compared to legacy systems, we do not need to get fancy firewalls in place that are costly. That is definitely also a cost-saver with Cloudflare One.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"If we had to develop our own and manage it, it would take years of development and maintenance. In those terms, it’s definitely beneficial."
"The most valuable feature is that it is simple to integrate, irrespective of your codebase."
"It is very scalable because it provides a new environment for companies based on their number of users and other factors. The tool can take a lot of users."
"The most valuable feature of the product is scalability."
"It has improved our organization by providing login authentication for a mobile app."
"The most important feature for me was the ease of use, as it needed to be easy to integrate into my platform."
"The specific outcomes since I started using Auth0 include time-saving, more security, and scalability, which are the three things I would emphasize."
"It is easily connected and easy to put our app in single sign-on."
"It's the endpoint exposition. We don't need to expose our VPN server to the internet and need a zero-test solution. I can apply some conditional access to the endpoint that's connecting to our network to check their security policies or the security condition of their workstation. Once the workstation is trying to connect to my internal network, then I would like to check the discrete condition of these endpoints that are trying to access my internal network. We created some conditional access. We have CrowdStrike, to check if the CrowdStrike is installed, to check if it's updated, and to check for Windows updates. We created some conditional policies to check it."
"Using Cloudflare One makes my work quite easy because for DDoS protection, all I need to do is understand the OSI model and click; it makes it easier than trying to write a command line or use a Linux command."
"The simplicity of the solution is its valuable features as almost no effort was needed to learn the configurations. It is also one of the cheapest firewalls available in this category."
"Clover is the best product globally."
"Cloudflare is simple to use."
"It will take the blow rather than our applications should an attack occur."
"The best feature is rate limiting. If I'm expecting 500 visits per hour, Cloudflare will limit the requests if I suddenly get 50,000."
"For Cloudflare Access, I am using the free plan...The most valuable feature is their protection."

Cons

"I find it surprising that there is no access to a standard user profile."
"In the past, there was an issue with the multi-tenant where there wasn't the ability to manage them."
"Auth0 Platform is not as flexible compared to ForgeRock or IBM Security Access Manager."
"The Management API could be improved so it's easier to get user information."
"There could be easy integration with IoT devices for the product."
"There is a possibility to improve the machine-to-machine authentication flow. This part of Auth0 is not really well documented, and we could really gain some additional knowledge on that."
"This is a costly solution and the price of it should be reduced."
"I think they can do a better job in explaining what you're supposed to do next in order to correctly follow an idiomatic approach to using the solution beyond simply passing a JWT token to a server and having the server check then signature to validate the token."
"The initial onboarding was causing us some confusion."
"Our customers no longer use Cloudflare because its service is subpar."
"The response time for support must be reduced."
"The pricing is an area that can be improved. Pricing, as far as I recall, was the source of our problems."
"There are premium tier live service and lower tier live service, so we opted for the lower tier. But there is no medium tier where we pay a little extra and get a bit more service. So if that can be improved."
"For the topic of improvement, providing some training material is one of my suggestions."
"Lacks a VPN feature to provide a secure connection to the data center."
"Feedback could be enhanced. While I work efficiently with Clover as a partner in Mexico City, sometimes the information and requests are easier to manage with more concrete solutions."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool is cheaper compared to competing solutions. Those alternatives tended to be more expensive. Consequently, Okta purchased it because it was considerably cheaper. The solution even offered some free services while still providing excellent functionality."
"There are different price levels: B2B, B2C, and enterprise. The basic plan is about $1,500 per month."
"Pricing of Auth0 is a pain point. Their pricing model is very confusing, at least for an enterprise. I don't like their pricing model. I think it's too aggressive. It's not very cheap for a service that only does authentication."
"It is a relatively inexpensive product in the industry."
"I am pretty happy with the pricing model of Auth0. It is very clear for me. Considering our scale, the features that we are using, and additional features that we bought, we still find it great. If you split the costs for the whole year and calculate the number of people you needed to hire, it always comes out to be much lesser than what we would have spent on building our own solution."
"My company has to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution. There are no hidden charges apart from the licensing costs of the solution."
"Cloudflare Zero Trust Platform's pricing is good."
"The price tag is no longer $200,000, but rather $300,000 to $400,000. It's twice."
"The pricing of the solution is cheap. The licensing cost is also very low. I rate the cost and pricing a three out of ten."
"The solution's pricing lacks transparency."
"The solution is not that expensive."
"The pricing is somewhere in the middle. I would rate the pricing a seven out of ten."
"The prices are slightly expensive."
