Saves time, is relatively cheap, and helps find errors
It's basically like a cloud stack.  You can trace your entire HTTP request. Once you have submitted any request, it will be addressed as a 500 Error or 401 Error, or if there is any exception happening when this request, and how much time will take. X-Ray can trace all the information about the…

Enables users to forward logs to a centralized location and intuitive dashboard functionality
The real problem we were facing was that we were unable to get all of our logs into a single place. We have an on-premise application with multiple servers across different data centers, and we needed to be able to view all of the logs together in order to troubleshoot any problems. That's why we started using Splunk to forward all of our logs to a single location. Moreover, Splunk APM gives us end-to-end visibility across our entire on-premise environment. Another biggest benefit I've seen is the ability to quickly identify problems using Splunk alerting. We set up alerts against our application metrics, and this has helped us to resolve major issues much sooner. We can now identify problems as soon as they occur, which gives us time to take corrective action before they impact our users. Splunk has reduced the amount of time our operations team spends investigating problems. This has freed up our engineers to focus on other tasks, such as improving our application performance and adding new features.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution has made it easier for us to trace the problems that we have with our requests and to monitor the timing of each step in each request we do in our endpoints."
"The most important one is compliance. We're able to achieve our regulatory levels. We're able to achieve the security level that we need for the federal government."
"The most promising feature of AWS X-Ray is that you can debug the issues through the proper logs. You can also get an analysis out of the logs for some use cases, though I have yet to try all the features of AWS X-Ray."
"AWS X-Ray is a strong solution and has a smooth integration process."
"AWS X-RAY identifies bottlenecks in terms of stability and performance and how long certain data lives in terms of response time and duration."
"It is a very scalable solution."
"The solution's service map feature allows us to have a holistic overview and to see quickly where the issues are."
"It is a good tool. It allows you to set alerts for application and infrastructure monitoring, and it allows you to create dashboards."
"The product's deployment phase is good and very easy because it is done with OpenTelemetry for most of the parts."
"This solution is very quick to deploy as it is a SaaS solution and integrates with tools like ServiceNow."
"Splunk's dashboards are great."
"The solution is stable and reliable."
"Detectors are a powerful feature."
"The features are pretty much ready out of the box."

Cons

"If you have a small team, it's probably overkill."
"Like most Amazon products, the user interface, configuration, and tuning aren't the easiest. That's the biggest reason why people tend to go to products like TerraForm and Terragrunt. We use TerraForm and Terragrunt. So, for setting things up and interacting with X-Ray, it's definitely the user interface that can be better."
"What needs to be better in AWS X-Ray is the log filtering. Predefined filters could be helpful because the power of analytics comes from how you can filter the data. I also want to see more KPIs from AWS X-Ray."
"The user interface is sometimes kind of confusing to understand. It's not very user-friendly."
"They can improve how traces are sent to other providers."
"I do not have any notes in terms of improvements."
"There are some predefined metrics.......we may want to create customized metrics."
"They can improve the flow system and the keyword language. It has predefined keywords, but they can be improved."
"The licensing model is expensive. We need to monitor the amount of data ingested because the cost is based on the data collected."
"The cardinality is pretty low."
"The monitoring of workloads when using SignalFx could be improved."
"Primarily, the logs in Slunk APM can be challenging to navigate and comprehend, making it difficult to understand the details within each log. Compared to other tools like LogDNA, which are more intuitive in this aspect, the logs in Slunk APM can require more effort to understand."
"I've been using the Splunk query language, and it can be a bit time-consuming to set up the queries I need."
"Splunk APM's performance could be improved - at the moment, it's very slow and takes forever to give me what I want."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is a bit expensive."
"The pricing for AWS X-Ray is a six out of ten."
"As you develop a relationship with Amazon, your pricing gets lower. You get credits for the amount of the system you use, and then if you're the government, you can get government pricing. For commercial users, there's a hump when you go from small to medium to big enterprise. Small businesses can live pretty easily off the free tier in a lot of cases, but when you go from a medium to a big enterprise, it becomes more expensive on a per-user basis. I'd like to see that curve going in a different way where pricing can be driven down while people are trying to adopt the technology."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"The price of Slunk APM is less than some of its competitors."
"Splunk offers a 14-day free trial and after that, we have to pay but the cost is reasonable."
"Splunk APM is a very cost-efficient solution."
