Lacks multi-platform support and physical infrastructure but excels in storage optimization
We use it for VM backup and Office 365 backup I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy. It provides storage for Office 365, which is beneficial, and the deduplication technology is excellent, especially in optimizing storage capacity compared to others. In terms of…

The solution provides the ability to backup all types of cloud drives, is inexpensive, and has decent support
MSP360 Backup provides the backup functionality, but we need to provide the storage component. We can use Azure, AWS, or another provider, but we need to choose the storage provider and create a bucket to store our data. The vendor is making changes to improve the functionality of the service and the separation of storage, but I would like to see more integration and a knowledge base of the tool. Currently trying to understand why the storage is separated and how to implement the storage properly is a challenge. Using the solution incurs additional charges for the device storage and backup which are not included in the service. Unlike other solutions such as Kohl which includes everything at one price. MSP360 Backup can be improved by adding inclusive pricing.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy."
"The ability to test the backups without having to manually mount the VHDs after restore allows us to check the integrity of the backups."
"It is a great lesson in keeping it simple."
"It is an excellent product; it is easy to deploy, stable, and fast, and their support is excellent."
"Hornetsecurity Altaro VM Backup's most valuable features include its user-friendly interface and the ability to perform data compression updates, which enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness."
"We looked for a cheaper Hyper-V backup solution, and Altaro is the best choice for this purpose."
"Altaro Hyper-V backup is a product that, once installed, does not need much maintenance."
"The ease of use of the solution is its most valuable feature. The interface is also excellent."
"The solution is appliance-free, the initial setup is very straightforward, the scalability and stability have never been a problem for us, technical support is very good, and we have found the price point to be quite good."
"It has allowed me to implement a cost effective, highly configurable solution."
"MSP360 Backup's most valuable feature is its backup interface."
"The UI is pretty good; it's very simple and very user-friendly."
"Client-side encryption minimizes worries about data being captured on the back-end."
"The feature that I have found most valuable is its online backup capacity because you don't have to do an entire backup again and again, it just does whatever you type in, you type a, it goes a, you type b, it goes b."
"The UI is pretty good. It's very simple. That is one thing that we like about this. It's very user-friendly."
"The most valuable feature for me is that I can see what has has been successfully backed up and what not. I do not mean the file or folder view, because that's problematic with GDPR, but I mean which machines have successfully backed up. It's very valuable because you don't have to check the machines. The second feature is that you can change backup settings in the portal."

Cons

"It would be nice to see a feature that backs up the host so that, in case of a server failure, an entire server could be restored all at once."
"Backup speed and comparisons between versions used to be slow on big VMs but that was improved greatly later on."
"The solution needs multi-platform support as it is currently only available for VMware and Hyper-V. It also lacks support for physical servers and workstations."
"It would be good to if they would expand the functionality to be able to backup normal servers without Hyper-V."
"However it has No support for Tape Drive backup – So no Disk-to-tape backup is possible."
"Hornetsecurity Altaro VM Backup could be improved in several areas, such as enhancing scalability features and possibly reducing the price."
"Sometimes, due to disk space and VSS, we have experienced stability issues."
"The yearly maintenance fee can be improved. It is high."
"The product could be more user-friendly."
"There are some things that we don't like about it. That is why I was exploring alternatives in a hyper-scale environment. That is why I was checking IT Central Station."
"If I have an incident and I need to restore something very fast, I want to restore a particular virtual machine, maybe in an hour and that is not possible to do with MSP360."
"The Linux GUI leaves a lot to be desired. It lacks many of the features of the Windows version and is buggy, but it is still usable."
"Maybe implement an easier interface for basic users. For example, a set-up wizard with all the commonly used features as default."
"The initial setup is a little complex as it has to be done in the office and requires someone to come in and install the solution on your server, then configure the scheduling, backup pushing, and so on."
"The interface feels like it is targeted for end users who typically are looking for an all-in-one integrated push button solution. It would be better if the interface had a beginner mode and an expert mode."
"The interface could use some updating."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Altaro VM Backup is affordably priced. It is a best value for its price and has almost every feature that an expensive, popular product offers."
"There is a free version for two VMs. I would advise to study the deployment environment well, prior to committing to order a license per host."
"Altaro had the best prices and ROI in the whole bunch that we evaluated."
"No other product offers these features for this price. The ROI is great."
"There is a free version for Hosts with 2 VMs."
"The price is great for the utility you get and the licensing has never caused any issues with my company."
"By implementing the solution at multiple locations, significant cost savings were achieved."
"VMware is a little pricey, but it is a good solution and priced similar to other products."
"The solution is expensive."
"It includes a standard licensing fee. Once a year, there is a rebranding fee. The licensing costs are available on the internet for MSP360 Backup. There is a discount structure where if you have over 50 devices, you get a 50% discount. So, my cost is $2 a license per month."
"I rate the price of MSP360 Backup a seven out of ten."
"Its pricing needs improvement."
"It provides a good cost savings compared to our previous cloud backup."
"The cost is pretty inexpensive. Around four to five dollars per device, per workstation on each server."
"We have a very good return on investment."
"MSP360 is vastly cheaper than its competitors and has almost all the same features."
