Lacks multi-platform support and physical infrastructure but excels in storage optimization
We use it for VM backup and Office 365 backup I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy. It provides storage for Office 365, which is beneficial, and the deduplication technology is excellent, especially in optimizing storage capacity compared to others. In terms of…

The solution provides the ability to backup all types of cloud drives, is inexpensive, and has decent support
MSP360 Backup provides the backup functionality, but we need to provide the storage component. We can use Azure, AWS, or another provider, but we need to choose the storage provider and create a bucket to store our data. The vendor is making changes to improve the functionality of the service and the separation of storage, but I would like to see more integration and a knowledge base of the tool. Currently trying to understand why the storage is separated and how to implement the storage properly is a challenge. Using the solution incurs additional charges for the device storage and backup which are not included in the service. Unlike other solutions such as Kohl which includes everything at one price. MSP360 Backup can be improved by adding inclusive pricing.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"In Hyper-V, I think there are many valuable features, including replication between different hosts, high availability, live migration where I can migrate between one host to another, as well as incremental disaster recovery, which are very good."
"Valuable features for us include quick recovery, compression, and deduplication, and the mix of these features leads to a reduced backup footprint while having guaranteed fast recovery in case of DR."
"Ability to restore to any host."
"It is a great lesson in keeping it simple."
"I have no reservations recommending Altaro for the Hyper-V based small to medium sized business."
"The CDP backup feature is very nice, as it allows you to take backups at high frequencies and with application consistency."
"The ability to test the backups without having to manually mount the VHDs after restore allows us to check the integrity of the backups."
"Excellent compression and deduplication with off-site WAN backup included."
"The initial setup is very easy. It's not overly complex."
"MSP360 is vastly cheaper than its competitors and has almost all the same features."
"Supports peer-to-peer backup using Minio, which has allowed us to easily pre-seed and maintain an off-site backup within driving distance, making tactical recovery of accidental file deletions easy."
"The UI is pretty good. It's very simple. That is one thing that we like about this. It's very user-friendly."
"I liked the way the product worked, its flexibility on the storage and cost, and the way it was supported."
"Technical support is very good."
"MSP360 Backup's most valuable feature is its backup interface."
"The most valuable feature of MSP360 Backup is its reliability."

Cons

"Replication is not fast, the GUI could be more user-friendly, and technical support is lacking in Iran."
"The only issue at the moment is a lack of throttling."
"Storage usage: you have often to manually free disk spaces."
"The application could include a feature to install a set size of data, such as the ability to store a single application with all its registry information for easy transfer."
"Availability of physical server backup would be an added advantage."
"The cloud backup and VMware support (now available in the latest releases), could do with some improvement."
"The scalability of the solution is limited."
"If you look into the performance of a virtual machine and you look to the performance of the physical machine, the correlation between these is totally unclear."
"The solution's pricing is very high."
"As for what can be improved, some reports could be simplified so that you know how much backup you have done and what your backup details are. That report is available but it is very tough to get. I would like to know "today I have just uploaded 35 MB, tomorrow I have loaded 10 MB so my trend of backup is increasing.""
"The Linux GUI leaves a lot to be desired. It lacks many of the features of the Windows version and is buggy, but it is still usable."
"We could basically use just a more concise visual dashboard reporting on the status of the various machines."
"The initial setup is a little complex as it has to be done in the office and requires someone to come in and install the solution on your server, then configure the scheduling, backup pushing, and so on."
"The interface could use some updating."
"The interface feels like it is targeted for end users who typically are looking for an all-in-one integrated push button solution. It would be better if the interface had a beginner mode and an expert mode."
"Using the solution incurs additional charges for the device storage and backup which are not included in the service."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"By implementing the solution at multiple locations, significant cost savings were achieved."
"Its yearly maintenance fee is fairly high for me to renew for upgrades and support."
"The pricing is okay,"
"No other product offers these features for this price. The ROI is great."
"Altaro had the best prices and ROI in the whole bunch that we evaluated."
"VMware is a little pricey, but it is a good solution and priced similar to other products."
"Altaro VM Backup is affordably priced. It is a best value for its price and has almost every feature that an expensive, popular product offers."
"There is a free version for Hosts with 2 VMs."
"MSP360 is vastly cheaper than its competitors and has almost all the same features."
"We have a very good return on investment."
"The cost is pretty inexpensive. Around four to five dollars per device, per workstation on each server."
"I rate the price of MSP360 Backup a seven out of ten."
"The solution is expensive."
"Its pricing needs improvement."
"It provides a good cost savings compared to our previous cloud backup."
"It includes a standard licensing fee. Once a year, there is a rebranding fee. The licensing costs are available on the internet for MSP360 Backup. There is a discount structure where if you have over 50 devices, you get a 50% discount. So, my cost is $2 a license per month."
