Lacks multi-platform support and physical infrastructure but excels in storage optimization
We use it for VM backup and Office 365 backup I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy. It provides storage for Office 365, which is beneficial, and the deduplication technology is excellent, especially in optimizing storage capacity compared to others. In terms of…

The solution provides the ability to backup all types of cloud drives, is inexpensive, and has decent support
MSP360 Backup provides the backup functionality, but we need to provide the storage component. We can use Azure, AWS, or another provider, but we need to choose the storage provider and create a bucket to store our data. The vendor is making changes to improve the functionality of the service and the separation of storage, but I would like to see more integration and a knowledge base of the tool. Currently trying to understand why the storage is separated and how to implement the storage properly is a challenge. Using the solution incurs additional charges for the device storage and backup which are not included in the service. Unlike other solutions such as Kohl which includes everything at one price. MSP360 Backup can be improved by adding inclusive pricing.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is an excellent product. It is easy to deploy, stable, and fast. Their support is excellent."
"Customer Service: Extremely good, and the turnaround is less than a day."
"Altaro VM Backup is affordably priced, is a best value for its price, and has almost every feature that an expensive, popular product offers."
"Altaro Hyper-v backup is not pricey and provides great features to secure your production data on Microsoft Hyper-V clusters."
"The CDP backup feature is very nice, as it allows you to take backups at high frequencies and with application consistency."
"There is a free version for Hosts with 2 VMs."
"The initial setup was simple and easy. Anyone without prior experience can install, configure, and use it."
"I have no reservations recommending Altaro for the Hyper-V based small to medium sized business."
"It has allowed me to implement a cost effective, highly configurable solution."
"The most valuable feature of MSP360 Backup is its reliability."
"General ease of use and performance of the Windows version is the most valuable feature."
"I would recommend the solution; it's a very trustworthy solution."
"The feature that I have found most valuable is its online backup capacity because you don't have to do an entire backup again and again, it just does whatever you type in, you type a, it goes a, you type b, it goes b."
"The UI is pretty good; it's very simple and very user-friendly."
"The most valuable feature for me is that I can see what has has been successfully backed up and what not. I do not mean the file or folder view, because that's problematic with GDPR, but I mean which machines have successfully backed up. It's very valuable because you don't have to check the machines. The second feature is that you can change backup settings in the portal."
"The solution is simple to use and easy to configure."

Cons

"The application could include a feature to install a set size of data, such as the ability to store a single application with all its registry information for easy transfer."
"I did not manage to import my old configuration, in v4, into v5 just after it what was released, however, I believe this functionality has been improved."
"Storage usage: you have often to manually free disk spaces."
"We use Linux guests on Hyper-V clusters and we really need the file level restore on these VMs (ext3 and 4 file systems) functionality."
"Availability of physical server backup would be an added advantage."
"The initial set up was complex, and I was not able to do the set up myself."
"Missing features at the moment are Linux file-level restore, backup from physical machines, German localized version, and probably full tape support (RDX is supported but there is no "real tape" support)."
"The software does have occasional problems with shadow copy but restarting the services rectifies this."
"The interface could use some updating."
"The solution needs a better graphical user interface. It's a graphical user interface that is very old-school right now. They could give it a little more modern feel."
"The restore time could improve. When we had an issue the restore time was lengthy."
"The other issue is that I don't like the implementation of the SQL backup."
"As for what can be improved, some reports could be simplified so that you know how much backup you have done and what your backup details are."
"The graphics are looking a bit old and should be updated."
"We could basically use just a more concise visual dashboard reporting on the status of the various machines."
"The Linux GUI leaves a lot to be desired. It lacks many of the features of the Windows version and is buggy, but it is still usable."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is great for the utility you get and the licensing has never caused any issues with my company."
"No other product offers these features for this price. The ROI is great."
"Altaro VM Backup is affordably priced. It is a best value for its price and has almost every feature that an expensive, popular product offers."
"The pricing is okay,"
"Its yearly maintenance fee is fairly high for me to renew for upgrades and support."
"There is a free version for Hosts with 2 VMs."
"There is a free version for two VMs. I would advise to study the deployment environment well, prior to committing to order a license per host."
"Altaro had the best prices and ROI in the whole bunch that we evaluated."
"Its pricing needs improvement."
"The solution is expensive."
"It includes a standard licensing fee. Once a year, there is a rebranding fee. The licensing costs are available on the internet for MSP360 Backup. There is a discount structure where if you have over 50 devices, you get a 50% discount. So, my cost is $2 a license per month."
"It provides a good cost savings compared to our previous cloud backup."
"Pricing is reasonable although can be quite a large upfront cost."
"We have a very good return on investment."
"I rate the price of MSP360 Backup a seven out of ten."
"MSP360 is vastly cheaper than its competitors and has almost all the same features."
