Lacks multi-platform support and physical infrastructure but excels in storage optimization
We use it for VM backup and Office 365 backup I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy. It provides storage for Office 365, which is beneficial, and the deduplication technology is excellent, especially in optimizing storage capacity compared to others. In terms of…

The solution provides the ability to backup all types of cloud drives, is inexpensive, and has decent support
MSP360 Backup provides the backup functionality, but we need to provide the storage component. We can use Azure, AWS, or another provider, but we need to choose the storage provider and create a bucket to store our data. The vendor is making changes to improve the functionality of the service and the separation of storage, but I would like to see more integration and a knowledge base of the tool. Currently trying to understand why the storage is separated and how to implement the storage properly is a challenge. Using the solution incurs additional charges for the device storage and backup which are not included in the service. Unlike other solutions such as Kohl which includes everything at one price. MSP360 Backup can be improved by adding inclusive pricing.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"If you have VMs to backup, Altaro is the BEST solution for us and many others alike."
"Valuable features for us include quick recovery, compression, and deduplication, and the mix of these features leads to a reduced backup footprint while having guaranteed fast recovery in case of DR."
"Great backup features for all my Hyper V machines."
"Excellent compression and deduplication with off-site WAN backup included."
"The CDP backup feature is very nice, as it allows you to take backups at high frequencies and with application consistency."
"We frequently use the granular restore option for when our users accidentally delete files or to recover emails from mailboxes. We have found that to be a must-have feature and it comes with the solution at no extra cost."
"We use the latest feature in Altaro called CDP (Continuous Data Protection) to back up our VMs as often as every five minutes. It allows us to make sure no data is accidentally deleted or overwritten."
"This product is not expensive, does the job what I bought it for, and is not time consuming."
"MSP360 is vastly cheaper than its competitors and has almost all the same features."
"MSP360 Backup's most valuable feature is its backup interface."
"I liked the way the product worked, its flexibility on the storage and cost, and the way it was supported."
"The UI is pretty good. It's very simple. That is one thing that we like about this. It's very user-friendly."
"One massive advantage of this solution, as compared to more enterprise products, is that no firewall changes are needed on the client's premises. For the product to back up from the client's premise to the cloud, it just needs port 8 and port 443, which are anyway always open. This was one of the things that made us decide to go with the product. It is very difficult to justify a firewall change for a small client who doesn't even know what a firewall is and how to maintain a firewall, or doesn't have anybody maintaining their firewall. You then have to maintain the firewall. MSP360 Backup takes away firewall change requirements, VPNs, or channels that are needed for the backup."
"Technical support is very good."
"The solution is easy to access and handles things efficiently."
"Provides connectivity to a lot of different cloud storage solutions."

Cons

"The software does have occasional problems with shadow copy but restarting the services rectifies this."
"The scalability of the solution is limited."
"It would be nice to see a feature that backs up the host so that, in case of a server failure, an entire server could be restored all at once."
"The replication time between virtual machines is slow."
"Storage usage: you have often to manually free disk spaces."
"Stability."
"Being able to backup the actual host machine would be an improvement for us."
"I need to be able to restore emails to Exchange Live not just to a PST. This is a major drawback as I want to be able to restore individual items or mailboxes directly into my live Exchange databases so the user can see the email right away."
"Using the solution incurs additional charges for the device storage and backup which are not included in the service."
"The product could be more user-friendly."
"The interface could use some updating."
"The graphics are looking a bit old and should be updated."
"The Linux GUI leaves a lot to be desired. It lacks many of the features of the Windows version and is buggy, but it is still usable."
"If I have an incident and I need to restore something very fast, I want to restore a particular virtual machine, maybe in an hour and that is not possible to do with MSP360."
"The solution needs a better graphical user interface. It's a graphical user interface that is very old-school right now. They could give it a little more modern feel."
"The main improvement is that it should have GDPR compliance. That's the problematic point. They say they are GDPR compliant, but they are not."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Altaro had the best prices and ROI in the whole bunch that we evaluated."
"The pricing is okay,"
"Altaro VM Backup is affordably priced. It is a best value for its price and has almost every feature that an expensive, popular product offers."
"No other product offers these features for this price. The ROI is great."
"Its yearly maintenance fee is fairly high for me to renew for upgrades and support."
"There is a free version for two VMs. I would advise to study the deployment environment well, prior to committing to order a license per host."
"There is a free version for Hosts with 2 VMs."
"By implementing the solution at multiple locations, significant cost savings were achieved."
"The cost is pretty inexpensive. Around four to five dollars per device, per workstation on each server."
"MSP360 is vastly cheaper than its competitors and has almost all the same features."
"It includes a standard licensing fee. Once a year, there is a rebranding fee. The licensing costs are available on the internet for MSP360 Backup. There is a discount structure where if you have over 50 devices, you get a 50% discount. So, my cost is $2 a license per month."
"The solution is expensive."
"I rate the price of MSP360 Backup a seven out of ten."
"Its pricing needs improvement."
"Pricing is reasonable although can be quite a large upfront cost."
"It provides a good cost savings compared to our previous cloud backup."
