Supports efficient storage management through volume snapshots and offers reliable non-disruptive upgrades
I have no specific improvements to suggest for Pure FlashArray X NVMe at this time. The performance statistics could be enhanced. I can see the performance statistics in the Pure Storage console, but it does not show the performance by 4K byte unit. It displays IOPS and bandwidth, but IOPS is about real use, and I want to know how many IOPS are currently running in 4K byte units. I cannot see that IOPS because most storage systems report their performance by 4K byte unit. I want to see Pure Storage performance by 4K byte unit to compare with other storage or other internal NVMe SSD.

Provisioning and encryption ease improve data storage efficiency
To improve HPE Alletra Storage, it needs to have a true active-active controller; it claims to have an active-active controller from the back end, however, the second node is pretty much sitting there doing nothing. The MV 10000 series, which is the next series, is an improvement to HPE Alletra, and HPE is already doing that. In the next release, I would prefer to see better dedupe features; I know other companies do excellent dedupe, and they have protection group policies, meaning you have immutable data in case of a ransomware attack. If you're on the SAN, it should give you a way to protect that data without being erased. Other vendors have that capability built-in, ensuring that you can't erase the data, so features similar to that would be great.

Offers a simple user interface and is useful for data replication
I use HPE Primera for mission-critical applications. My company uses the product as a storage solution for our machines. The availability of HPE Primera in our company is critical for us, considering that we operate in an HA environment where we can't have downtime since we need to deal with cheque clearance for banks. The product's interface is simple to use. I am satisfied with the user experience provided by the product. The ease of use of the product's interface has directly had an impact on our company's operations, along with the improvement in the availability and performance of machines. Compared to HPE Primera, I work with a much more reliable storage solution like Dell PowerStore. Compared to HPE Primera, Dell PowerStore's features related to deduplication are very good, and it also offers a physical storage capacity of eight TB, which can be expanded up to forty TB. I would recommend the product to others who plan to use it only after taking into consideration their usage and requirements. From the price and performance point of view, Dell PowerStore is a better choice. I rate the tool a seven out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The duplication algorithm allows us to get a lot more use out of less storage. We're running a five terabyte array right now and we're running probably about 30 terabytes on it. So the duplication rate is pretty phenomenal, without a cost to performance. It still runs pretty smoothly."
"The most valuable features of this solution are its ease of use and performance."
"On a scale of one to ten, I rate Pure FlashArray as ten."
"The latency is good."
"It is very easy to install and configure. It has got excellent diagnostics. If you really need to see how the box is performing, the console gives you a lot of information. You can set thresholds as well as alerts based on the thresholds, which is a very powerful functionality. They are very proactive. They know how to monitor and manage the systems. They see a problem, and they are all over it before us. They see the problem before we see it, which is very good."
"It has good, reliable, fast storage."
"The standout features for us in Pure FlashArray X NVMe are its robust DDoS protection, seamless transparent failover, and failback capabilities ensuring high availability."
"Everything, especially the VMs inside, is pretty fast."
"It's easy to deploy and maintain and it's made everything faster."
"The features of HPE Alletra Storage that I prefer most are the copy of virtual volumes. These features benefit my organization by providing fast performance and low latency."
"Right now, it's offered both cost reduction and space reduction."
"My experience with the deployment of HPE Alletra Storage has been good. I like the single pane of glass approach."
"The deduplication feature is great."
"We now have much more storage and the uptime is very good."
"HPE Alletra Storage provides a cloud-like operational model on-prem for managing data operations, such as deployment, provisioning, and data management."
"The features I appreciate most about the HPE Alletra Storage are its ease of provisioning storage and management."
"HPE Primera is stable."
"The performance of the solution is good."
"The high availability was most valuable because they come with what's called 100% data availability. With special terms, they license and guarantee 100% data availability. That was probably one of the key features or components that HPE was offering with that model."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"The most valuable feature of HPE Primera is its performance and simple replication."
"It serves as the primary storage in my production environment."
"The most important thing that we had found when we purchased this product around six months back was its 100% availability and uptime."
"The features that I have found most valuable are the artificial intelligence for the storage inside of the software and firmware because customers do not like functionalities which require manual interruption."

Cons

"Right now, the box itself is just strictly working as a backend storage system. It would be fantastic if we could access it directly like a NAS device through network access or SIS drives. I think they have an interface, but I am not sure how good it is. If we could address a box directly on the network without having to go through a server, it would be great. The replication schemas could be improved. We are not using replication on the storage level right now. We use a different type of replication. If their replication would be as good as the one that we have, I would probably run the replication schema because it might be faster, but I don't know that for a fact. So, I cannot say that they have good replication. All I can say is that they need to inform us better."
"We would like to see more visibility into garbage collection and CPU performance in the GUI."
"I'd like to see the product implement active replication for vehicles such as VMware."
"We need better data deduplication."
"In the future, I would like to see integration with enterprise backup systems."
"The UI for this solution needs to be improved."
"The tool's portfolio is minimal. It is expensive."
"There are some challenges with data encryption and reduction."
"I cannot think of a specific area that needs improvement."
"The energy usage could be further improved."
"HPE is not offering unified storage in their storage portfolio, which causes problems in local tenders and RFPs where customers demand NFS shares and block shares in the same enclosure."
"They are starting to add more blocking tools. It's lacking natively, however, they seem to be adding in more."
"Pricing could be optimized, as it is always a challenge. The competition offers some storage solutions at lower prices, making the cost a significant factor."
"The plug-in for vCenter and integration into vCenter is spotty at best."
"In my case, HPE Alletra Storage does not provide a cloud-like operational model on-premises for managing data infrastructure."
"The deployment was a little rocky."
"The file server embedded in Pure, the GUI, and the tracking and reporting features are better with Pure Storage."
"HPE Primera's deduplication area is not as good as the one offered by Dell PowerStore, making it an area where improvements are required."
"The interface needs to be more user-friendly in that sense that installation and management are still a bit on the high end."
"On the hardware side, you should have the ability to expand capacity to larger numbers."
"The cost of HPE Primera could be lower."
"Primera should be more user-friendly."
"The price of the product is an area of concern. From an improvement perspective, the solution should be made more affordable in terms of price."
"We cannot use this storage for critical applications and data."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pretty much everything that you need is licensed when you buy the product. Licensing to me is different than the maintenance cost, but they can bleed into one another. We buy the product, and we expect three years of support bundled into what we negotiate on our storage arrays. I would start to see maintenance costs going into the fourth year, but we're not there yet."
"Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
"The tool is an investment that we've budgeted for. While the prices may be higher than those of other vendors, we see it as a market leader with benefits. We don't regret purchasing it."
"We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
"The support cost per array is about $20,000 a year for 24/7 support."
"Pure FlashArray X NVMe’s pricing is cheaper than other products."
"As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
"The product is expensive."
"It is reasonably priced."
"The solution is expensive and can cost around five lakhs."
"The pricing is somewhat high, but when customers choose HPE, they often prioritize the brand value over pricing. The pricing is higher compared to other vendors."
"Its price can be optimized."
"There is a license. HPE Alletra uses a cloud-based model."
"Overall, it was good. It had a good price per gigabyte."
"For us, its price is good."
"The main competitor in the market for HPE Alletra Storage is Dell Storage, as they are selling at a low price."
"I believe HPE Primera and Pure Storage are similar in price."
"I rate the product's price a ten on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
"From what I see, this is competitively-priced and HPE are doing their best to stay competitive."
"The cost is $75,000 for a three-year contract."
"The solution is quite cost-effective."
"The price of the solution should be cheaper."
"Licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis and the cost of GreenLake service is included."
"The solution’s pricing is affordable and worth the money."
