It's flexible and easily accessible across multiple locations, but the upgrade process is complicated
Upgrading Ezmeral to a new version is a pain. They're trying to make the solution more container-friendly, so I think they're going in the right direction. The only problem we've had in the past was the upgrades. The process isn't smooth due to how the Red Hat operating system upgrades currently work. They're transforming their host stack to increase cloud readiness and edge compute capability. HPE is transitioning from a standard data-driven approach to one powered by AI analytics. That's something they have released very recently. I haven't tried that, but it will probably make things easier. The ability to adapt Ezmeral to the public cloud is probably missing. I've heard that they're getting leaner. However, it doesn't have a clear managed services offering for you if you want to deploy this stack on the cloud. That's a problem. This probably won't meet your needs if you require consistency across on-prem and the cloud. It's not Ezmeral's fault. None of the products would fit the bill. Cloud offerings are biased towards their own implementation. It's a general issue on most big data platforms. They're already working towards that, but it hasn't been released.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric can be accessed from any namespace globally as you would access it from a machine using an NFS."
"I like the administration part."
"It is a stable solution...It is a scalable solution."
"The model creation was very interesting, especially with the libraries provided by the platform."
"My customers find the product cheaper compared to other solutions. The previous solution that we used did not have unified analytics like the runtime or the analog."
"The solution offers advanced features that the company was struggling to implement."
"SAP HANA's best features are its programmability and extensibility - you can size and shape the software however you need."
"The most valuable features of SAP HANA include its user-friendliness, flexibility, and extensive support for various functionalities like finance, logistics, and workforce processes."
"The performance in terms of processing time is unmatched due to the in-memory processing capability."
"The most valuable feature of SAP HANA is the interaction it provides with external suppliers and clients."
"The initial setup is straightforward. It usually takes around eight months but it depends on a customer's requirements. We can spend a month or two customizing."
"What's most valuable in SAP HANA is that it covers the business process systems of my company. The solution also helps because it makes almost everything automated. Another valuable feature of SAP HANA is that it can be integrated with third parties and other enhancements needed by the company."
"The in-memory computing and the efficient response time are very good features."

Cons

"Having the ability to extend the services provided by the platform to an API architecture, a micro-services architecture, could be very helpful."
"Upgrading Ezmeral to a new version is a pain. They're trying to make the solution more container-friendly, so I think they're going in the right direction. The only problem we've had in the past was the upgrades. The process isn't smooth due to how the Red Hat operating system upgrades currently work."
"The deployment could be faster. I want more support for the data lake in the next release."
"HPE Ezmeral Data Fabric is not compatible with third-party tools."
"The product is not user-friendly."
"I give the scalability of SAP HANA a six out of ten."
"The worst thing about SAP HANA is the price; it's very expensive. The licensing cost, implementation cost, hosting cost, and appliance cost are all high."
"The solution could improve in the handling of backup data and the administration tools."
"The challenge right now is all databases are on S4 HANA architecture. You're running it for HANA, but not all the functionalities are available. If they can speed up getting all the databases on S4 HANA that would help."
"I would like more technical documentation. I would like it to be easier to find online help or have a better launch-based service. SAP has a lot of functions, so we need more best practices and more detailed documentation on industry solutions. For example, it would be good to have documentation on why a certain process needs to be set up and which kinds of configurations need to be set up."
"The user interface and CRM need to be more user-friendly."
"In terms of improvement, the speed is not as good as we thought it would be. That is why we are trying different solutions that will be built with different technologies."
"The solution needs to work on its performance and make it faster."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a need for my company to pay for the licensing costs of the solution."
"The tool's price is cheap and based on a usage basis. The solution's licensing costs are yearly and there are no extra costs."
"HPE is flexible with you if you are an existing customer. They offer different models that might be beneficial for your organization. It all depends on how you negotiate."
"The licensing could improve."
"The licensing cost for SAP HANA is approximately $200 per user per month."
"The pricing for SAP HANA is high. You pay a lot for the license, and you also have to pay for some add-ons."
"Set up a consortium of consulting partners and hardware vendors to define your tech. Landscape TCO (total cost of ownership) and then approach the OEM for pricing (on-premise or on cloud or a hybrid model). Check if you can bring your own licenses for some of the existing application licenses on the new platform, to reduce TCO."
"We are spending about 20,000 to 30,000 euros on the solution."
"SAP HANA is expensive, but unfortunately, we do not have any alternatives."
"It is expensive."
"I would rate the pricing of the solution a ten on ten. The pricing for on-prem SAP HANA is on a yearly basis and expensive. I am not aware of the actual pricing but it is based on 64 Gigabytes. For instance, if you consider $10,000 for 64 Gigabytes, then you can calculate the cost for Terabytes in case you have one. You will have to buy expensive hardware as well which is quite a lot."
