A highly stable and scalable load-balancing software that offers great technical support
My company is really happy with Kemp LoadMaster as a product. My company is also happy with the support we receive from Kemp LoadMaster. I want Kemp LoadMaster to provide users with better reporting capabilities in relation to TCP packets. In general, the connections that are present in the system require improvement. Feature-wise, Kemp LoadMaster has everything that our company's customers require. Kemp LoadMaster also has features that have supported our company's past projects.

Quick installation and very easy to manage while doing orchestration or automation
NGINX cannot be a replacement for your traditional load balancer with what we use in the network today. However, with applications going toward microservices, NGINX is definitely a way forward. F5 has many traditional load balancing features, so they still need to bring some of those features to NGINX. NGINX is a very basic load balancer and cannot do as many customizations as F5. I think F5 is trying to implement those features in NGINX so they can improve the balancing on NGINX, but I think that will take some time. With the traditional F5 set up, the same OS can do load balancing, firewalls, and even policy enforcement. If we are able to bring some of those capabilities to NGINX, I think it would become a versatile solution and usage would definitely increase.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The DNS Load Balancer makes it so that I don't have to worry about site failures."
"The most beneficial function of using the ADC is to ensure this resiliency."
"Great web balancing and remote access balancing."
"When you configure the listening services, you can implement a lot of security features like the Edge Security Pack that intercepts the requests and processes those before they are sent to the real servers."
"Mitigates content security policy issues."
"It has greatly fortified the performance and uptime of our front-door email ingress, simplified and segmented mail routing, and reduced admin overhead for mail issue resolution and troubleshooting."
"The configuration is really easy and the web portal is self-explanatory."
"I like that this is a Network Load Balancer that can be used practically with any application in the backend. They have how-to guides on how to set up Kemp NLB with Exchange, but you can use it as well for Sharepoint, RDS, or any other back end server."
"I receive very good support."
"NGINX provides a cost advantage, value addition, and effective support."
"NGINX Plus also has NGINX App Protect. It's a separate module, which is inspired by the F5 apps."
"The load balancing module, which is equivalent to LTM, is the focus of the PSE. So far, the features of both are identical. I believe NGINX has more features for securing these services, but in terms of load balancing, both are massive solutions."
"The flexibility of its modules allow it to be scalable."
"Supports IMAP, POP and SMTP protocols for the reverse proxy."
"When you use NGINX, you have more options and power."
"The most valuable features are the gateway and the ability to publish to sites."

Cons

"The only thing I have struggled with is setting up automatic backups."
"It would be nice if the historical metrics were easily exportable from the interface."
"The ability to see live traffic is not great and can be improved."
"Although Kemp is very user-friendly, it lacks a more custom configuration."
"Perhaps Kemp could offer some training videos."
"Hardware version needs a dual power solution."
"Third, the password history restriction needs improvement. For example, the password policy will restrict the user to always use a unique password combination. The password should not be reused for a minimum of three generations of passwords."
"Some documentation is out of date versus the new version, and things have been moved."
"The solution's GUI is an area with certain shortcomings that need improvement."
"One area of improvement could be that NGINX could provide a means to generate self-signed SSL certificates."
"The solution must improve its performance."
"Only improvement needed that I would point to is scalability. With it, I mean clusterized organisation on a low level. At the moment, the best alternative is RHEL HA."
"NGINX is a very basic load balancer and cannot do as many customizations as F5."
"The biggest room for improvement would be to allow NGINX Core machines to cluster for memory zones in some way with a plug and play module. "
"Make modules easier to enable or disable. The beauty and ugly side of the NGINX modules is you have to know how to compile the module. For beginners or non-very technical aspirant(s) going for NGINX, they have to learn how to compile the modules."
"I would like it to have a more user-friendly graphical interface."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Download Kemp's VLM trial and take it for a test drive; you will be impressed."
"KEMP gives away free trials for 30 days. This can be stretched if you want. During the test, you will have access to KEMP support."
"The product definitely provides what the organization needs and its cost is reasonable considering the value it brings."
"The costs for the Kemp Load Balancer solution are okay because, for a good product, you have to spend money."
"From a cost perspective, Kemp is very competitive and is not hard to justify by any means."
"At $2,500 USD, this is absolutely a fantastic buy for the money!"
"The Kemp LoadMaster is a tremendous value."
"Less expensive than Citrix."
"The price is the cost to contract support with a specialized company, usually during consulting hours."
"The cost is reasonable."
"I use the solution's community edition which is free of cost."
"NGINX Plus is worth it, if you need it. If you do not need the features or support, the free and open source package is more than capable. "
"NGINX Plus is an open-source solution with limited additional features. When you try to get additional features in the solution, then you need to pay an extra amount to NGINX Plus."
"You pay for each feature that you want."
"The list price of NGINX Plus is close to $5,500."
"NGINX is a free tool in Brazil. There are some companies which do support it."
