We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.

Pros
"The single dashboard is a valuable feature.""We can manage the entire system across the network and troubleshoot the pain points."

"It is a user-friendly solution.""Technical support is helpful.""The initial setup was easy. We didn't have any issues with the process and everything rolled out smoothly.""The feature I like is that it can easily do a lot of mapping.""Network Discovery is a feature that our customers like a lot.""PRTG is integrated on Windows.""The sensors and probes are great, nice and lightweight, they don't take up too many resources on the system. We just deploy them out and they start reporting instantly.""The solution is very easy to use and the web provides information with ease."

"The most valuable feature of Wireshark is the ability to choose a destination of flow that has not been working as expected.""You can use Wireshark to see the traffic packet format, the IP layers, the fields, and the enabled flags.""Wireshark is very user-friendly; even someone with basic IT knowledge can use it.""The feature to incorporate Voice over IP (VoIP) incidents into network traffic analysis is valuable. Capturing voice or SIP communication allows for examination of interactions between SIP clients and SIP servers. This helps the team investigate or analyze issues related to call center servers and operators.""The best part about Wireshark, in my opinion, is its ability to analyze packet capture files.""Wireshark has a lot of features. It's a powerful tool if you're familiar with it. You can see everything on the network with it.""What's best about Wireshark is that it doesn't require installation. It supports cards and monitoring permissions and is sufficient for appending and capturing activities. You won't need to install other tools to use Wireshark, so this saves you time. You can capture packets at any time from your laptop through Wireshark.""I use the filters very often, to determine what type of traffic I am looking for. The use of filter allows traffic to be segmented so that a value can be looked at individually apart from the other traffic."

Cons
"The technical support needs improvement.""The Wi-Fi side needs improvement."

More Juniper Mist Premium Analytics Cons →

"We're using more cloud services now. It would be useful to be able to get information back from these cloud services in detail, and display any issues within PRTG for the rest of our systems.""It would be nice if it gave us alerts via Gmail or SMS message.""This product can be improved by updating the net flow interface. The one that is in place works – I can get all the information I need from it – but it is a little bit clunky.""When it comes to third-party integration, one of the things we were looking at was putting some sensors onto our firewall, for instance. If there were a little bit more documentation and some step-by-step guides around that, that would be useful for us.""The solution could be better and faster when it comes to performance.""I would like to see a more robust platform and a new dashboard. In addition, the code is good, but it needs improvement.""I know we're going to move to Docker applications and I understand that PRTG does some monitoring regarding this. I do not know if it is complete. If it's not yet complete, it's something they should consider improving.""The technical support service should be improved."

More PRTG Network Monitor Cons →

"A room for improvement in Wireshark is its ease of use for beginners. It could be better. Another room for improvement in the tool is for it to provide more details about the traffic load. At the moment, Wireshark is adequate for me, so there isn't anything I'd like added to it in its next version.""We'd like to be able to extract the output into an Excel table.""It is not an easy program. You will need to study to use it to its full capabilities (follow a course).""The system could be improved upon by adding a better and more powerful data processing engine.""The decryption of encrypted packets could be better.""This product needs to improve the UI.""You need some basic knowledge to work with Wireshark. Maybe it could be more user-friendly just for new users. Just for the new generation.""The solution has a steep learning curve. There are so many filters and features that are frequently being updated, it takes research, experience and familiarity to be able to use them. It could be a lot more user-friendly."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
