Symantec's application security module needs some improvement. You need to create a lot of fingerprints for application security. For instance, let's say I have different brands of ATMs in my environment, like Wincor and NCR. I use GRG to deploy an application control to whitelist some applications. I have to get the exact image of the different models of ATMs. When I tested in the past, some machines would not connect to the server without that. Only the approved software on the ATM should run. Anything outside that should not even come up at all. We did this so that an outside person doesn't introduce malicious software to the ATM. That's the essence of locking down with application control. Using Symantec for application control has been hectic, so I use Carbon Black to do the lockdown. Checking that data security will work fine with Carbon Black. Carbon Black worked fine. Setting up approval in Carbon Black works differently than Symantec. In Symantec, we first need the fingerprints of the applications running underneath. Before setting up Carbon Black, you first install the agent, allowing it to learn the environment. It will analyze all the software's behavior and provide recommendations for what should be allowed. It's more straightforward, whereas configuring application control in Symantec is a bit cumbersome.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Endpoint Security's best features are inventory, asset management, and quick scanning."
"The solution is centrally managed, easy to configure, and easy to use."
"The most valuable features are the file activity monitors, DLP solutions, and application controls."
"There are many features available in this solution, such as asset management."
"The solution is stable."
"The most valuable part of the solution is its ransomware backup feature."
"The update process and policy control are good."
"In case it works, we are looking to use features like USB blocking, file upload alerts, and other antivirus features as well, but this software has to work first."
"It's a robust product."
"The solution detects malware very well."
"The incident response capabilities allow me to resolve authentication and support issues promptly, ensuring the system operates without downtime."
"The single-pane management is the solution's most valuable feature. It makes administrative control very easy."
"With a single console, you get control over Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android. This control is most valuable."
"The initial setup is straightforward."
"The product has been quite stable."
"Symantec Endpoint Security offers many valuable features, such as file explosion, application learning, DLP, injection detection, and EDR solutions for traffic control."

Cons

"I don't feel that the scalability part of Seqrite Endpoint Security is better than the other products in the market."
"The interface is slow."
"In the next version, they should improve the areas of utility and centralized control."
"The solution needs to improve stability."
"The solution could integrate with other products to provide a comprehensive protection strategy."
"Endpoint Security would be improved by adding DLP."
"The solution's integration capabilities are moderate and could be improved."
"We would like the solution to have integration with other security solutions so that we can have a single base for monitoring all the security incidents and concerns."
"When, Microsoft releases a new OS version twice a year, you never know if the current version of Symantec Endpoint Protection will support it. You can have a lag between when Microsoft releases a new client - and then the current version doesn't work correctly - and it could be some months between updates from Symantec."
"The artificial intelligence of Symantec End-User Endpoint Security could be better."
"Technical support could be more responsive."
"Automation of tasks should be improved on SEPM. It is currently manual, and we should be able to automate installation and deployment from the client side."
"If there is a suspicious file, it is put into a sandbox where Symantec does an analysis. After the analysis, Symantec marks the file as a risk, but it doesn't blacklist or block the file. If a file is already known to be harmful, I would like them to automatically block or blacklist it to reduce the damage."
"As for some features I would like to see, I'd like a retrospective action feature similar to Cisco Secure Endpoint's. Some antiviruses don't allow you to re-scan a product that was in the former scan—for example, if a file was classified as proper, but then for some reason the file was changed, we need an antivirus with retrospective capability. We need EPP and EDR products in a secured environment."
"This solution is resource-heavy."
"We had trouble with the advanced features, such as the firewall builder and all the network protection modules. We were having a lot of issues because it would sometimes block users or the printing, or it would create issues with the network access resources."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is reasonable."
"It is a cheaply priced product."
"Licensing fees are on a yearly basis. Compared to other solutions, this solution is cheaper."
"I give the cost of the solution a seven out of ten."
"The solution's pricing is good for us, where it is neither cheap nor expensive."
"As per the suggestions from one of the experts we know, it is advisable to make a proper comparison with the local vendors instead of solely relying on online prices, which are often higher and quite expensive."
"Endpoint Security is cheaper than Trend Micro."
"The license isn't expensive."
"Zero-day threat or advanced attacks should be part of the endpoint. The product should not require you to buy a separate license."
"Symantec Endpoint Security's pricing is okay. It is cheaper compared to other products."
"It is cheap. It is especially cheaper than Malwarebytes, which is three times higher than this. It is also cheaper than Cisco. Its price is almost similar to Bitdefender, Gravity, and CloudZone."
"The licensing costs are huge compared to what is normally included in the licensing with other products such as the Microsoft products that we're using. We're paying between $300 and $400 per seat."
"The licensing is okay. Symantec has a very granular licensing model, so you only buy what you need."
"The pricing is as per the environment. If all the features are there, there will be a cost for them. There were no additional costs for me. Support and other things were included in the pricing."
"Its price is reasonable."
"The licensing terms can range from subscription-based to perpetual, to annual, to tri-annual."
