Great URL scanning and attachment scanning, but I would like more proactive threat analysis
The two main features that prove most beneficial for us are URL scanning and attachment scanning. URL scanning involves an automatic scan of links and emails. When a user clicks on a link within an email, the system promptly checks the link's safety. If the link is deemed safe, access is granted automatically. However, if it is flagged as unsafe, we receive feedback and notification to caution us about the potentially harmful link. At this point, we are presented with the option to proceed or return. I have personally witnessed the system identify a few unsafe links, making this the primary advantage of using the solution. The second crucial aspect is the scanning of attachments. When an email containing an attachment arrives, we receive a notification of the new email, along with information that the attachment is being scanned for threats. This additional layer of security provides peace of mind for our organization. While Microsoft Defender for Office 365 offers numerous features, these two stand out as particularly impressive and valuable to us.

Provides good identity proxy features, but sandboxing and spam control features could be improved
Sophos gives you a feature set to manage your on-premises firewall on the cloud. I just integrated my on-premises firewall into the cloud, and I can manage the tool through the cloud as well if needed. I recommend using Sophos Email as a proxy. For email gateways, I advise choosing mature products with rich feature sets, like Trend Micro or CrowdStrike. The solution's integration with other tools is very simple. I easily integrated Sophos Email with my Active Directory. My organization needs a WAF with a limited feature set, which we use through Sophos. Purchasing additional WAF will be costly, but I get sandboxing and WAF features free of cost with Sophos, which is included in the license. Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Provides effective filtering for spam, phishing, and suspicious emails
In terms of improvement, reducing false positives would improve the system. If there were fewer false positives, it would be nearly perfect. In the next release, I would like to see improved detection for emails containing only text, especially if they seem suspicious but lack links or attachments. Currently, Trend Micro Email Security is effective with emails containing links or attachments, but those with only text can slip through unnoticed.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"One of the best features of the tool is its capability to aggregate insights from different workloads, basically from the Office 365 and endpoints part."
"The most valuable aspect of Microsoft Defender for Office 365 is its ability to protect us from malware."
"The product's scalability is good."
"The stability of Microsoft Defender for Office 365 is fantastic."
"The product is not resource-intensive."
"I would say that 90% of the spam and phishing attack emails get blocked right off the bat."
"Defender is a SaaS platform, so it offers more flexibility. Managing the permissions is easier. The solution's automated detection and response features are scalable."
"It’s easy to handle integrations, and we don't need a lot of people in our IT team."
"The filtering capabilities are precious and far superior to others I've used. It's intuitive in what it pushes to quarantine, and users can quickly review, free, or delete items without needing an administrator, making it ideal for a multi-user environment."
"The platform is scalable when installed on server-based systems."
"The most valuable feature of Sophos Email is the sandbox. We're able to scan the file, isolate it, and look at it before it is delivered. It is highly effective."
"Our client recently received many emails, and their employees didn't realize these emails were phishing attempts. Consequently, they clicked on them and fell victim to the attack. Therefore, it is important to secure their system with Sophos Email Security."
"Good VIP protection, time of click protection and the Sandstorm feature."
"I cannot guarantee any email by its name. It can be spam. Sophos Email helps to double-check whether an email is spam or not. It has a dashboard which gives an overview of the alerts."
"The tool is a good solution for protecting against email attacks and monitoring networks. It supports our compliance efforts and is easy to use and stable."
"When you say email security, it's about everything, incoming email, outgoing email, spam, phishing emails, unwanted marketing emails. You can set rules, but the main feature of Sophos Email is to make sure you don't get hacked. 95% of people who are hacked do not get hacked by typing the router password. They are hacked from the inside out, which means they send you a document that is a zero-day attack, you open it, nothing happens, but technically the attack is running in the background of your computer. This is how they gain access to your PC."
"The most valuable feature of Trend Micro Email Security is the security level it provides. The solution is efficient."
"Trend Micro constantly releases new versions and patches based on evolving needs."
"Trend Micro Email Security’s most valuable feature is spam filtering."
"The solution's initial setup process was easy since it was deployed on the cloud."
"Trend Micro Email Security has a feature for secure protection of OneDrive, Google Drive, and CloudApp security."
"The most valuable features of the solution are spam protection and email continuity."
"It does a good job of ensuring users are not compromised via email."
"The most valuable feature of Trend Micro Email Security is effective phishing prevention."

Cons

"I am generally satisfied with how it currently is. If I could improve anything, I would reduce the cost."
"About eight months ago, we started to measure the quantity of phishing and spam that we have been receiving, and it has been increasing a lot. That means that protection for our email is not as good as we were expecting."
"Microsoft Defender for Office 365 must improve the overall management style, including the GUI. It also needs to change the filters so that it is easy to whitelist and blacklist data."
"Microsoft needs to broaden its global support presence by establishing teams of subject-matter experts in all regions."
"The visibility for the weaknesses in the system and unauthorized access can be improved."
"The only thing they should improve is the licensing model. They should stop changing it. A year ago, the five features I mentioned were included in one product. Now, three of them are bundled into one product, and you have to pay extra for the other two. I don't mind paying extra, but I don't want them to change it every year or every six months. I need to know what I'm looking at and not worry about it next year."
"Microsoft security solutions work as expected. They are constantly updating the solutions to make them better. At the same time, the changes can impact a customer's environment, and we need to adjust settings. Sometimes we aren't aware of the changes, and nothing is pushed from the backend automatically."
"Microsoft should provide more documentation for users so they can self-educate. I would like to see more documentation for advanced security features."
"Email installation could be more user-friendly so that it can be done without involving the partner"
"Email installation could be more user-friendly so that it can be done without involving the partner."
"The solution should be able to support the cloud environment."
"I would like to see improvements in the initial setup process, ensuring better compatibility with diverse customer infrastructures."
"The product could include all the essential features and capabilities, similar to the on-premise, server-based version."
"Sophos Email could better detect fake emails, especially when the domain names are similar. It needs to improve spotting spoofed domains, like when one letter differs in a domain name. It also needs to incorporate AI detection. Barracuda detects suspicious emails better. However, malware scanning is better in Sophos Email."
"Sophos Email needs to increase the number of promos."
"However, the setup was tricky, particularly with the DNS routing between Microsoft Exchange Online and Sophos cloud services. It took me about four attempts to get it working correctly. Despite that, Sophos Email does everything we need, so we don't require any additional capabilities now."
"The only negative thing about Trend Micro Email Security is its price. It could be less expensive."
"The solution's configuration policy should be easier."
"In terms of improvement, reducing false positives would improve the system."
"Trend Micro Email Security should introduce new features, improvements, and updates which are cost-effective and easy to deploy."
"There is a lot of room for improvement towards the phishing kind of email filtering, with the different hijacking attacks, and with the kind of password attacks which these phisher attackers do."
"The tool's dashboard is old."
"They need to adjust the spam filtering and make it stronger."
"There is a limitation when customers are using their email from a third-party solution that isn't from Trend Micro."
