Offers data security measures including offsite backups, encryption, and redundancy features and responsive and effective customer support
With Azure backups, for example, I can only configure three policies and trigger them only three times a day. There's no such adaptive scheduling in Azure. Also, if I have multiple folders, I can't configure different policies for each one in Azure. Commvault, on the other hand, allows for this kind of flexibility. So, Commvault's adaptive mode seems better suited for cloud-native environments compared to Veeam. Like, Commvault is more adaptive than Veeam Data Platform. For the first thing, I would like to see the support for third-party data. Like, Oracle database. In Azure, you don't have release support for custom databases, like Oracle or other data. We cannot directly integrate with Azure Backup. There is only hardly any support for SQL and SAP HANA. That's a key area of improvement for Microsoft because we do manage all the databases, libraries, SAP libraries, and Oracle databases. And going with the latest features, So I feel Microsoft needs larger support there. The other thing is the retention policies. So I can configure the VM backup directly. However, if I wanted to configure the application-level backup, I could only do it on Windows, but not on Linux. But if I see Commvault, I can do it for any of the machines, even if the customer supports Commvault. But Azure has limited support, so even OS compatibility. It supports Windows and some flavors of Linux.

Simple to use with a quick setup
We needed a tool to know what the space inside of the infrastructure is like. My work was to use Zabbix to get information about the IT infrastructure in the village or in the towns that are very far from the headquarters. I had to use Zabbix to provide information with maps that the IT was working…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The integration with some storage systems like HP or Nutanix and great support are the most valuable features. You get productivity support. You get a response within one hour, even in the evening or night. The functionality of the whole software is good."
"Strong performance with a high level of compatibility."
"Enables us to restore the VM when the needs arises and for disaster recovery."
"It lets you verify a backup with the least amount of effort."
"I like Veeam a lot because it solves problems, is stable, and runs very well."
"The initial setup was straightforward."
"The most valuable features are the backup and restoration of our VMs. Additionally, they add features regularly."
"The user interface is good and it is very easy to use."
"Our customers also like that they don't have to use multiple modules. Micro Focus and major vendors typically require you to buy several modules and plugins. Our customers do not like that. We offer them a single product for all their monitoring needs."
"The initial setup was not complex."
"The integration with third-party tools and the alerts are most valuable."
"The template system in Zabbix is very beneficial as it saves time in configuration."
"We detect problems before the customer does and before it actually happens using the predictive functions in Zabbix."
"The solution allows for good integration with other products."
"The most valuable function for me is the auto-discovery of interfaces in devices. When you integrate devices into the tool, it automatically finds the interfaces, which is very helpful for my job. Integration and configuration run smoothly in my experience with Juniper and Aruba devices."
"It has improved our server performance monitoring overall. We know right away when there are problems. It has built-in statistics, so we can go back and see if there's spiking. We can check what's happening every day around the same time and check the configuration to see if there's something that's running and needs to be fixed."

Cons

"Veeam doesn't have the reporting part quite right. Its data visualization isn't as slick as other solutions like Veritas. For example, in Veritas, you can see a calendar that shows you which days are backed up. Veeam lacks features like that."
"We try to compare Veeam with other solutions because we are the operations. Then we can give the answers for improvement which is the specific additional system features that other solutions provide."
"The parallel backup process from the Veeam server to Veeam has some limitations. The number of parallel backups should be increased and the compressional is very low. Sometimes it is half or one-third, but other backup solutions' compression levels are very high."
"The product is expensive."
"The product must provide better security."
"The product must improve its performance."
"Its import and export processes for information and policies could be better."
"The cloud backups from Veeam Backup Replication have not been good. Addiotnaally, the backups of Office 365 and the overall performance can always be improved."
"Zabbix isn't very good at automation just yet."
"It could be more stable."
"Improvement is needed as per customer requirements."
"I had problems using Zabbix when working with SUSE Enterprise; many companies use SUSE."
"The product delivers false positives during reporting because of flapping. Other reasonably priced alternatives may have better performance."
"Implementing Zabbix is difficult. I've deployed many solutions over the years, and Zabbix is the hardest to implement. You have to do some development to get it to work with IBM, Micro Focus, or HP products."
"The performance reporting could be improved."
"Zabbix claims that there is an auto-discovery process but my team member was facing difficulty and was told that it's not really automatic, and there are some manual steps."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I don't know what the costs are for sure, but I think that it's on a yearly basis."
"Although our license includes support, we have only really used the support when we were using Veeam for Active Directory. The rest of the time, we find Veeam easy enough to use without paying extra support fees."
"If you tell Veeam that you're competing with, for example, NetBackup or Backup Exec, or Dell or Micro Focus then they may lower the price. They are very competitive."
"Veeam has been raising its prices in the last two years, so it's now lacking some competitiveness in pricing."
"It is not expensive and I would rate it five out of ten."
"The solution provides flexible licensing options."
"It's the market price. It isn't expensive, nor is it cheap."
"The product is not that expensive."
"Zabbix is a free solution but the support contact costs money."
"It’s free of cost."
"There is a license required for this solution and we pay annually for our license."
"The solution is free. However, many open-sourced tools start out free but eventually start charging."
"I use the tool's free version."
"There are no licenses."
"We pay the subscription for support by year."
"We use the open-source version of Zabbix."

Nagios vs. Zabbix vs. PRTG vs. Spiceworks vs. Solarwinds Network Performance Monitor
I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want…
